42Just by looking at the rival institutions offering commits, you can see that we recruit smart athletes who can qualify and play. It makes me proud to see Ivy League and service academies listed as our competition for these young men. -

549Whatever you think is best. Thanks, I appreciate it. I would like to say that I don't do it on my own though. I miss things sometimes and you guys definitely help me out so it's not a 1 man show or anything! I look forward to seeing what Hawk and company can do with a full year of being able to set up recruiting networks. Gould was always touted as a good recruiter, but there seems to be more energy and excitement with Hawk at the helm. Maybe we're just excited that there's change, we'll see!

Seems like a lot of the athletes we're putting out these early offers out on are on guys that are receiving a ton of interest from bigger programs. Not likely that we land them, but you have to appreciate the attempts from the coaching staff.

549The academic reputation of Davis definitely helps in landing some athletes, but a lot of these guys are looking to go to a big name programs. I mean, some of these guys that we put offers out on won't even consider us in our current state. Hopefully Hawkins can turn us into a power FCS program, but even that won't happen immediately.

484Why sell ourselves short? Most of these kids have extremely high GPAs, many of their parents are educated, and they know the NFL is a long shot. Like Gould said, even if they make it it is "not for long". -

549I'm not saying that we should sell ourselves short, but we as fans should have realistic expectations about the motives of these athletes. Athletes want to win games, championships, ect. and we currently don't have that reputation. Like I said, academics will help us with some athletes but Hawkins will really need to step up the success of the program before we consistently land recruits like the ones that we are putting out offers on right now. I do hope we can steal a couple of these guys.

1.1kI like the fact that the coaching staff is making offers to players who are getting FBS attention. UCD has a lot to offer and we just might land a couple of these players. If we don't offer there is no chance whatsoever. I think it also shows the confidence that Hawkins and his staff have in what we have to offer and where we are going. They're setting the bar high and some of these athletes might realize that they can get an outstanding education and a lot of playing time at Davis and, if they perform very well, it's is not out of the question that they could make it to the next level. Heck, we had guys do that when we were D2 so why not now?

549Most of the athletes that we offer get at least some attention from FBS programs to a certain degree. Many FCS programs regularly put out offers on "shoot for the moon" athletes early on in the recruiting year. I hope we can land a couple of these guys, I just wouldn't hold your breath.
That being said, Hawkins has an infectious personality and I think he will really be able to sell what he's trying to build here. Let's aim for a winning season sooner rather than later. -

549New offer out on 3 star DB Chris Mitchell from Mission Viejo. Interestingly enough, we're his only offer as of right now despite the fact that Scout has him ranked as the 14th best CB in California and 79th nationally. I'm sure that he will start receiving a bunch of offers soon.

549New offer out on TE Tae Le from Huntington Beach. Saw on twitter that he has above a 4.0 GPA and by the end of the year will be one of the top TE/WR's in southern California. Scout has him ranked as the 3rd best TE in California, 22nd nationally.

549New offer (from a couple days ago that I missed) out on a local kid out of Rocklin. DE Nick Eaton. His hudl profile only had him listed at 215 pounds, so he is going to have to either bulk up to play DE in college or maybe play some LB. GO AGS!

549New offer out on 3 star QB, Jalen Chatman. This kid is the real deal. His junior year he threw for 3926 yards while completing 69% of his passes. Tossed 52 touchdowns with only 9 interceptions, good enough for a QB rating of 136. On top of that he rushed for over 600 yards.
1st team All-State, Junior POTY, while keeping a 4.0 GPA. -

549In the last couple of years we have Khris Vaughn, Jared Harrell, Bransin Johnson, Kristian Gilbert, Brandon Jamison, and Logan Montgomery all of which were rated 3 stars by at least one of the major recruiting sites.
So we're getting some 3 star guys. It looks like Hawk is putting out offers on a higher volume of 3 star athletes than Gould was, however. I want to be clear though that the star ranking system is not a great indicator of success in college football until you get to 4 and 5 star athletes. -
