If Sac is willing to pay $18M for the MAC, it stands to reason they pitched the same to MW. MW saying no is saying they already have their Sac metro area team. UCD will be FBS by ‘30-‘31 and playing in the MW.
Sac St went FCS first and spent the better part of two decades floundering around. I was at UMass when they joined MAC and they were far better positioned than Sac is.

You drew great numbers against regional opponents with fan bases that will travel to watch. You will not have this in the MAC. Montana brings way more people to a game than Bowling Green or Toledo ever will. In NorCal almost all Big Sky teams have greater name recognition than any MAC school. Nobody outside of Upper Michigan and Ohio are drawn to see these teams.
I honestly wish you luck, but Woods took any move to FBS vs waiting for the right move.

MAC attendance figures are helped by the fact they are close to each other and can easily travel to away games. Sac’s closest conference rival would be Ball State. The Causeway or even Sac-Poly are bigger attendance draws than Sac-Akron or Toledo or Kent State. $15M upfront, plus stadium upgrades, to get $1M per year is a massive gamble.

I am totally good with the Causeway fading away. Other than proximity, we are not natural rivals like UCD and Poly.

This one is very scary. Looking at our remaining schedule, we have 5 tough games ahead.

This is an over simplification of a complex issue. Historically, minorities have been underrepresented and of course that needs to be addressed. Ignorance, hatred, institutional racism, and bigotry are the problems. But labeling this “whiteness” is counter productive and needlessly divisive.
Surprisingly, compared to the state population, caucasians are actually underrepresented in both the CSU and the UC systems.

Interesting to read that Ole Miss is still recruiting McDonald despite his verbal. This is a great coup and pick up for Sac, but they need to continue to recruit this kid until December.
I am a huge skeptic about what Sac is trying to do with FBS, but even I must admit they are getting some positive results in the short-term.
