FCS Campbell, who just added scholarships in 2018, had a recruiting class that tops some FBS programs. A small private school in North Carolina, the Camels star addition is four star (247 Sports, Rivals) safety Myles Rowser. The class was ranked #88th best in college football.

Coach Mike Minter played in the NFL, and in 2020 played an all-FBS lineup (4 games). Their 'stadium' seats 5,000. They do have a new flashy locker room. Coach Minter even topped Deon Sanders.
No, I am not saying all of these ranked athletes weren't academically qualified. I am saying I bet most were not qualified for many D1 schools at this time. Either they didn't have all the coursework completed in high school, high enough SAT or ACT scores, or high enough GPA. I am thinking many of them didn't
qualify for many of the school's academic requirements so they chose this school, as they could get accepted there, and satisfy the requirements to move on next year.
“Our No. 1 goal for ’22 was to have the No. 1 recruiting class,” said Minter, who played 10 professional seasons with the Carolina Panthers. “We started it out in January ’21 and we said that’s our No. 1 goal. So everybody focused on that. We didn’t focus on anything else, which meant that we were going to have to do a lot of research....
"Minter accomplished that goal through a combination of his salesmanship and assembling an aggressive staff that includes fellow NFL alumni Pat White, Reggie Howard and Dee Brown...."
Aggressive future schedule, and all FBS schedule during Covid (TV games).
USA could play. That was a good game too. Also, one of the best tailgates I could remember, their fans were great. All about watching good football, and one of them was of course originally from Mobile but had moved out to Oakland where he owned a soul food restaurant. Wonder if he's still going strong.
i remember their fans knew more about our team than we did!
I clearly remember a quote like ‘you all have some good players but you all need some more brothers’ Very enlightened!
I also remember they had a HUGE semi with tesm colors that drove cross country with their gear! They were way ahead of us financially, despite playing a mostly JC schedule
Campbell is kind of out in the boom docks. They had football many years ago then dropped it. I have been on campus once for a wind ensemble concert I am in (Aggie band-uh alum). The buildings are all very new and quite nice. They have started a law school and a PA school. It is private and nominally Baptist (of some sort). Evidently they have some big donors and big ambitions. I pretty sure academic qualifications are very secondary for athletics (especially football). From what I have watched, they have some flash from some individuals but as a team were only 2-5 in Big South conference, not one of the stronger ones. I see them maybe having a flash in the pan year at some point but nothing sustainable.
