  • Week 2: San Diego @ UC Davis
Stanford was making the same mistake against SDSU. Kept pounding the ball with no results. Started to look kinda familiar :(

The difference is recognizing the run game is not going work and "taking" what the defense is "giving" you. MAKE AN ADJUSTMENT.

SDSU clearly had a stop Love game plan so Stanford went airborne and targeted the least experienced DB with back shoulder passes time and time again.

Then their WR changed it up with double moves and into to endzone they went.

A Gould team would just keep running the ball and not make ANY adjustment.

That was the FIRST Thing I looked at when comparing positions and guessing possible outcome for this game.

From there can our Offensive Tackles contain? They are both JR's and I don't know if they are JC transfers or came up in the system. The SJSU DLs are all returning seniors and starters.

    ..If not...no passing game.

If no passing game then our run game will be put to the test. 3 of their LBs are returning starters which may cause some challenges for the Aggie run game.

If our OL Tackles can stop the defense and pass block then our pass duo can torch the DBs because the SJSU defensive backfield is vulnerable.

    Go Aggies!

I noticed that! I will pass on using those links.

I found these tonight and I don't know much about them.

I'll be taking a closer look to determine which if any is worthwhile before the game on the 30th.

  • Let's Get Ready To RUMMMMMBLE!
I predict we will be entertaining.

LOL...good one! I think I'll roll with that one!
  • Spring Game
I am worried for the players when it comes to the Stanford game.

Those are some big mofos and they played tough football against USC...another team with big mofos.

I hope we can get out of there without losing key players (esp.interior linemen) to season ending injuries that will impact the rest of the season.

This is not the Stanford of 2005!
  • Spring Game
Didn't mean to suggest Aaron Rogers wasn't good at Cal...just saying as the pro he is now...he is crazy off the charts good. He made it no secret that he worked at it off season.
  • Spring Game
Glad to hear the feedback on CJ.

Your point about Aaron Rogers gives me the perfect segue into what I was getting at.

The Aaron Rodgers of today is not the Aaron Rodgers that came out of Cal and in the pros his first few years.
He along with Tom Brady developed their skills sets...accuracy can be achieved if practiced enough.

That is why I wonder if CJ is putting in the work. He has been here long enough, has the arm strength and athleticism to spin that ball!

Why is CJ not challenging for the #1 spot and a solid 2nd string. What happens if Maier goes down?

He only needs to be accurate within 20 yards but it would be awesome to see him launch a bomb that surprises the defense.

There is enough film on us to know that when CJ comes into the game we are going to run.

I just hope when next season starts the coaches don't run that play thinking they are going to surprise the opposition!

We are going to need some new wrinkles on our offense because the opposing teams have plenty of film to review on the Maier to Doss connection.

    Re: Defense
I hope we don't go into next season with freshman CBs!
  • Spring Game
Interesting read on the comments here.

What I've been wondering... why are they not developing CJ's QB skills?

He has had an entire year to improve his accuracy which would add a needed dimension to the offense when they are struggling against tough opponents.

What if during the last 2 min of the EWU game CJ came in and ran some options and starting slinging the ball into tight windows to Doss and the other receivers!

I don't thing EWU would have been prepared for that.

I wonder if it's the coach(s) or the player?

    Oh Well...Rock On Aggies!

  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
LOL@... I was screaming at my TV for them to pass...

No joke...I used to do that during the Gould era.
  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
This team is more exciting but I wouldn't say better than the past teams despite the current record.

Gould could have easily had a couple of 5-6 or 6-5 seasons had he not insisted on playing predictable 3-n-out football game after game year after year.

I don't know if it was Gould or his OC or his OC not speaking up but...It was pathetic!

    Oh yeah...and frustrating to watch.

    Re: The Game
We have been outcoached this entire game. This loss is entirely on the shoulders of the coaches. They let down those kids on the field playing their hearts out!

This difference in on the field talent isn't that big.

    Re: Attendance
I'd bet good money that most students in the MU and around campus didn't know about the game tonight.
  • Late Season Report Card
I don't know the specs on these guys but if they can go from "0 to 60" in two steps why not try it for one play and see what happens.

The opposition won't have film on them and know what adjustments to make.
  • Late Season Report Card
It's not working for us and here is why...

In simplest terms the jet/fly sweep is designed to get to the edge quickly (before LBs) and turn upfield. That requires speed!

That doesn't fit our run game. We have between the tackles, off tackle and up the middle type runners.

I could be wrong but I don't think we have had one runner make it to the edge all season. In fact, most of the time (I've been watching) we've been tackled for a loss!

There is enough film out there for our opponents to know that and shut it down before it gets started.

If we have someone on the bench with speed it would be cool if he was put in the game just to run that one play and see what happens!

Take a look at these mind boggling numbers re:college football revenue

Texas A&M is #1 followed by Texas.

Excellent points! I would add the biggest issue is attracting and landing D1 recruits!

There is no compromise for size, speed and athleticism on the field at the D1 level. The competition is tough as California ranks 3rd behind Texas and Louisiana as the state recruiters nation wide visit.

UCD simply can't compete at that level. One doesn't just "compete" against Cal or UCLA...the athletes have to be on the field and that starts with signing up the Jimmy and Joes.

Take a look at what UCD is up against...
