I agree with you man. If I was 20 I’m taking the cash. Like I said before, in this shit economy you have Harvard guys that are unemployed. It’s not 20 years ago. Rooting for the kid and hope he has a Cam Ward trajectory, that would look really nice for Plough and serve as a nice recruiting pitch. I’ll absolutely be tuning into a Wazzu game or two pulling for the kid.
We just need a big back for red zone and short yardage. It was a weakness of ours once Vargas got injured. I’m thinking 8 carries a game for a power back.
The degree argument was great in the late 90s and early 2000s but the job market is shit. You can be a Harvard grad and have a really tough time. Take the money..
We have been pretty quiet. We have some really big holes to fill and I’m not seeing the offers go out. Edge, TE (hopefully the one we offered commits), nickel, safety, big RB, Big Receiver, Tackle…
IMO you’re going to find far more steals in Juco in today’s game because high schoolers are getting completely screwed by transfer portal. There are plenty guys at Juco right now that would be big sky/mountain west guys if it were no portal. Also very strategic now since it doesn’t count against eligibility.
I agree. CP has an “it factor” that was cool to watch but Vargas has Sunday traits to me. Slightly disappointing because I think this group would’ve gotten a national championship had it been old transfer rules. Plough’s first recruiting class was a masterpiece offensively.
Let’s not villainize the athletes. These programs are offering loads of money to kids. These kids are seeing peers at Davis and other schools not even be able to get hired at a job with a 45k salary when they graduate. They are taking the money, as are the coaches. Blame the system for the free-for-all that is happening but then again, this is what happens when you exploit student-athletes for 75+ years..
What I will say is, we were in this exact (or worst) situation last year. Cleeland’s arm may be up there with the best arm talent we’ve seen here and Plough is a QB guru. We will see..
thinking back, I don’t think small receivers were our problem. We had our first 1k receiver in a while. Our receivers honestly outplayed how we thought they would before the season.
yeah I count about 6 plays in the first quarter that if they went our way, we’re up 35 at half. Most were on offense in the redzone. We had a dropped INT in which the next play they scored. These made it close. But oh well they’ll be ready next year.
