• WEEK 11: UC Davis @ Idaho
it sounds like the DB situation is dire.DrMike

I've got my fingers crossed that it doesn't get even worse. I don't ever recall seeing so many serious injuries on the defensive side of the ball and mostly concentrated at the DB position. It looks like we have to score a lot of points in order to have a chance to win in the next 3 games...shootouts or whatever it takes...
  • MBB: North Dakota State (0-1) at UC Davis (1-0), Wednesday Nov. 5, 6 pm
Regarding the Aggies' sluggish first half:

“We got lucky to get out of there tied,” admitted Aggie head coach Jim Les.

“I was not at all happy with the way we played early and our lack of energy. We believe in truth telling in our program and there was a lot of truth telling flying around the locker room at halftime. But then our intensity, our effort and our physicality got better. We stress how you can impact the game in so many ways even when you don’t have the ball and that helped turn things around.”

    Connor Sevilla post-game comments:

“I give all the credit to my teammates for finding me with the ball when I was open,” said Sevilla, a 6-1 junior from San Ramon.

“I have more confidence in myself this year and I felt great today. I’m blessed to have this opportunity this season.”

Added Les of his budding superstar, “He’s one of those guys who I actually have to kick out of the gym because he is such a hard worker. He’s not tall, but the size of his heart is enormous.”

  • MBB: North Dakota State (0-1) at UC Davis (1-0), Wednesday Nov. 5, 6 pm
Just got home from the game. Very nice win for this very young Aggie team. There is a whole lot of potential on this team and it's going to be fun to watch them grow and get better.

In the post-game, radio interview, Les said he did not like the lack of energy in the first half and they "discussed" that at halftime. He also said that he really liked the way the team responded and came out in the second half with good intensity which was led by the team leaders.

We were getting killed on the offensive boards in the first half but we did a much better job of getting better spacing and blocking out in the second half. I thought our defense really turned up the heat in the second half also and that energized the offense and the 3's started dropping.

Niko had 6 blocks and I thought the foul on his 7th was not a good call. He looked straight up and down to me. Suljanovic, Stokes and Rawlins are impressive for true freshmen. Daugherty, Fagbemi and Esso-Essis were all in street clothes. Hope to see them back soon.

The Ags are 2.5 point favorites tonight but this scribe disagrees with the oddsmakers.

North Dakota vs. UC Davis pick, best bet

It is tough to fully evaluate what to make of UC Davis in the opening game given the DII opponent, but it was concerning to me the Aggies did not fully bury Menlo. The undermanned opponents trailed by just eight at halftime and cut the lead to the same margin with just over 13 minutes left to play. UC Davis was able to pull away late in the game, but Menlo still shot 40.0% from beyond the three-point line and if they did not have 28 turnovers would have had a chance to be in it at the end.

I think oddsmakers got this one wrong and am backing North Dakota State to win outright on the moneyline. They are 3-1 in their last four meetings against UC Davis. The Bison also have won 16 of their last 17 Wednesday games played at UC Davis stadium, University Credit Union Center.

There has been more turnover on the North Dakota State roster, but there is a clear concept for who they want to be as a team. UC Davis greatly struggled to score last year and lost their lone reliable source of offense. Being held to 42 points at halftime against a DII opponent is not convincing enough for me to put these concerns to the side.

Expect this matchup to serve as a bit of a wake-up call to the Aggies as they prepare to face true high level competition. If they open the game with the same lack of purpose, North Dakota State is capable of burying them. Count on them pushing the scoring level to a point that UC Davis cannot match and for this to be the story of this matchup. Capitalize on the +114 odds on the moneyline and look for the Bison to pick up their first win of the season.

  • Jim Les Press Conferences?
The problem with linking through the Aggie website is that it always takes you to KHTK 1140 AM even when the game is being preempted by the Kings. At least that's been my experience.
  • Jim Les Press Conferences?
Do you know what internet station Wong is referring to?
  • Jim Les Press Conferences?
I attend the home games and watch the away games on ESPN+. After the game is over, I listen to the radio, post-game interview on the drive home from the games in Davis. When the game is over on ESPN+, I tune into KHTK 1140 AM radio and listen to the post-game interview live online.

KHTK 1140 AM carries the Aggie games except when they get preempted by the Kings. You can listen to it online live but I don't know of any way to listen to these interviews except when they are being broadcast live though. You can google KHTK and go to their website to hear the live broadcast or you can link to KHTK through the Aggie Athletics website also.

I haven't figured out what radio station the games are broadcast on when the Kings game preempts the Aggie games.
  • Jim Les Press Conferences?
I've never seen any press conferences for Jim Les like they have for Tim Plough. I was just thinking about this today and I think that both men's and women's basketball should have press conferences throughout the season just like football. The only time we hear from Les is in the post game, radio interviews.

I really enjoy your write ups. Very informative! I would love to see you do the same for the men as well.
  • WEEK 11: UC Davis @ Idaho
I'm in the same boat. Hopefully, this dispute will be settled by then. I'll be looking for another provider if this goes on much longer.

Terrible seeing Kanagasabay go down after all she's been through already.
  • WEEK 11: UC Davis @ Idaho
Why is that? I have YouTube TV and ESPN+ as well. You should be able to get the game on ESPN+. The regular ESPN channels (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU) are the channels that have been affected by the YouTube TV and Disney contract dispute not ESPN+.

ABC is also out right now on YouTube TV as well. I hope they get this thing settled pretty soon. The greed involved with these big media corporations is out of control. Man, what a dog eat dog world it is when it comes to all these mergers and money grabs...
  • MBB: Menlo College (0-0) at UC Davis (0-0), Monday Nov. 3, 5 pm
It appears that we have a lot of young talent and it will take a while for them to develop and grow into the pace and physicality of the college game. I hope that the injuries to Fagbeymi and Essos-Essis are not too serious and that we get to see them in action pretty soon also. The game against NDSU will be a tough test for us on Wednesday.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
The early signing date is about a month away and, according to 247 Sports, Sac has an astonishing 485 offers out. They are also showing 35 commits and 15 decommits at this point. It will be interesting to see what their recruiting class looks like given the complete mess and bad press that Wood has created and the failure of Hornets to dominate all of the "JV FCS teams" on their schedule so far.
  • 2026 Football Recruiting
It's always concerning when the big boys start jumping in at the last moment. Hopefully, our commits will realize the special opportunity they have to actually get to play against the best teams in the FCS while getting a great education rather than riding the bench at a bigger program.
  • MBB: North Dakota State (0-1) at UC Davis (1-0), Wednesday Nov. 5, 6 pm
The men may get a few minutes to put their feet up and bask in the glow of victory, but they’ll be back at it Wednesday evening on their home floor against Summit League power North Dakota State. The Bison opened their season Monday night with a 67-65 loss at Oregon State after missing a shot in the final seconds that would have sent the game into overtime.

As for Wednesday night’s anticipated battle with North Dakota State, Les noted the Bison typically present a lot of problems with the quality of their offensive attack.

“Our defense is going to be tested,” Les added.

  • MBB: Menlo College (0-0) at UC Davis (0-0), Monday Nov. 3, 5 pm
“I was really pleased with the depth we showed tonight,” Les said.

“We got some really good production off the bench and that gives me a lot of confidence when those guys are in there. When we share the ball and spread the floor, we have a lot of guys who can make shots. We did get an early lead, then didn’t handle prosperity very well, but things were much more focused in the second half.”

  • MBB: Menlo College (0-0) at UC Davis (0-0), Monday Nov. 3, 5 pm
There is a fence like metal railing all along the length of the court now. It looked terrible on TV...like a barrier to keep fans off the court. I've never seen anything like that in a basketball arena. What's up with that?
  • WBB: William Jessup (0-0) vs. UC Davis (0-0), Monday, 11/3 at 7:30 PM
The Aggies looked solid tonight beating Jessup 72-35. Ryan Bennett led the Ags with 21 followed by Megan Norris with 15.
