• Chima Moneke Suspended Indefinitely
Totally agree and we also have an athletics program that operates with integrity and academics first and that is something to be very proud of considering a lot of what we see too often in college athletics.
  • MBB 7 pm Thursday: Hawai'i (16-11 & 7-7) at the Aggies (19-9 & 10-4) Senior Night'i
Winning on the road is tough for any team but Hawai'i seems to struggle more with road games than most it seems. They're always tough at home for the most part. I think thier unusual travel situation and the fact that they play so many home games early in the season makes it hard to judge how they will do later especially on the road.

They didn't look like a team that was emotionally ready play hard last night and the Aggies clearly played with more intensity throughout the game.

I think that honoring Chima was the right thing to do. He is due a presumption of innocence and, by honoring him, I think the university is saying he is innocent until the investigation is completed and he is found to be at fault or not.

It also seems that he's ready to leave and move on.

Post-game quotes from the Davis Enterprise article about the game:

“We’re peaking at the right time,” said 5-foot-9 guard T.J. Shorts II, who continued his torrid play over the second half of the season with a game-high 21 points — 16 in the second half.

“We need to keep this momentum going,” added Shorts, who was five-of-six from the field after intermission and for the game made all eight free throw attempts.
“We know Irvine is a great team and it’s going to be tough, but we’ll be ready for them,” Shorts noted.

“It’s a great feeling to control our own destiny,” said Schneider, who had 16 points in the first half, which ended with the Aggies up, 36-21.

Aggie coach Jim Les was all smiles afterward as he looks ahead to Saturday night in Irvine:

“Irvine is a really good team, a lot like us,” he said. “It’ll be a knock-down, drag-out battle.”

Looking back on the final home game of the campaign, Les added, “I can’t be more proud of this group. They battle and they fight and they win the old-fashioned way. They know they’re not the most talented team in the league, but they make up for it by playing together and doing all the little things. That makes it fun.”

  • Chima Moneke Suspended Indefinitely
From the Davis Enterprise article after the Hawai'i game regarding Chima:

    Seniors honored

In a pre-game ceremony that was both poignant and perplexing, suspended UC Davis basketball star Chima Moneke said his final goodbye to The Pavilion as part of Senior Night. Also honored were guards Arell Hennings and Michael Onyebalu.

It was perplexing because Moneke remains suspended from the team for a violation of team rules at a hotel in Woodland Hills a month ago, but there he was at center court being honored by the very school that suspended him.

“I will graduate in three weeks. (At that time) I’ll get an agent and move from Davis,” Moneke told The Enterprise, adding that he knows nothing about the status of the school’s internal investigation and would not comment on the circumstances surrounding it.

Moneke confirmed he has an eye on an NBA career.

Moneke was leading the team in scoring (18.4) and rebounding (9.6) through 22 games and was in the running for Big West Player of the Year before being hit with the suspension seven games ago.

UCD officials refused to confirm or deny a report in The Sacramento Bee that said “Moneke was questioned, but not arrested, by police officers called to the team hotel” in Woodland Hills.
According to an LAPD spokesman who spoke to The Bee, “It is unclear whether Moneke will face criminal charges.”

Despite repeated requests to the LAPD for information, The Enterprise has been unable to verify that police responded to the hotel on the night in question.

My wife and I enjoyed every minute last night as well. We just love the grit and determination of this team. There's no quit in them. Les always gets the most out his players. He seems to have a way to get players to overachieve. Michael Onybalu's story from an unknown walk-on to a solid starter this year is the epitome of Aggie Pride and Aggie Athletics. Every player contributed last night.

Glad my drive home is only 20 minutes!
  • WBB 7 pm Thursday: Aggies (23-4 & 13-1) @ Fullerton (8-19 & 3-11)
I was checking the Live Stats every now and then while I was at the men's game and I was getting worried. The first time I checked the Ags had 4 point with a minute and a half to go in the first quarter. Then we trailed by 3 at the half and were down 8 with 6 minutes to go in the 4th before pulling it out. Morgan Bertsch had 34 points and is the first Aggie to score 30 or more in over a decade and was just 2 points shy of the all-time record of 36 set by Aimee Connor at Chico State on February 20, 1993.

I thought that this might be a trap game for the Aggies after locking up the Big West title last week at home on senior day and then going on the road to play the last place team in an empty house. That's a set up for an emotional let down. I'm glad they pulled it together enough to get their 24th win of the season.

Yes that was some payback for sure but I'm sure Coach Les will remind them of the 30 point loss to keep them focused and bit revengeful...
  • MBB 7 pm Thursday: Hawai'i (16-11 & 7-7) at the Aggies (19-9 & 10-4) Senior Night'i
So the stars have aligned for the Aggies and we now control our own destiny for the the Big West Championship.

I'll tell you what. I could not be more proud of this group of Aggies after the huge disappointment of losing Chima. They have played their hearts out in every game when they could have easily hung their heads and caved in. We're not the same team without Chima but we've become a very good team without him also.

It was tough tonight to see Chima walk onto the floor arm and arm with his mother and his two brothers. He was embraced warmly by Coach Les who then gave him the framed montage of photos that each senior got. The crowd was on their feet and the ovation was long and that's when Chima just broke into sobs along with his mother. I'm so happy that the Aggie fans acknowledged Chima the way they did because this has been very tough for him and the team and it showed tonight. You could see that there is a lot of love for Chima from his teammates and they support him. He may be in street clothes but he's still a significant emotional part of this team.

All nine of the Aggies got into the game tonight and every one of them contributed to this win. The offense and defense in the first half was a thing of beauty. It was certainly one of their best halves of basketball of the entire year.

Now they have one more big challenge ahead and I wouldn't bet against this team. They're just so damn determined.

Deishuan Booker's layup with no time remaining to beat UCSB 70-69 is just what the doctor ordered. So now we play at Irvine for all the marbles...the winner takes the crown. This is the same scenario as last year and the Anteaters trounced us by 30. Time for some payback!!

By the way, that was the 1000th win in LBSU basketball history...good for them.

I wonder if this means Chima will not be part of the Senior Night ceremony?

So does this mean they will not honor him tonight....?? The Bee article indicated otherwise...

Hahaha...now that would definitely be disturbing the peace!
