• Will the Fans Ever Really Come Back?
Many of the season ticket holders seem to barely have a pulse. They just sit there quietly while the players are imploring them to show some life. Like you said, it's makes you feel bad for the players that so many fans just can't bring themselves to lend some enthusiastic support to the team and make some noise. I've been know to jump out of my seat when there's a great play only to have some of the folks around me look at me like I must be off my meds. Geeesh!!

And my pet peeve: Parents who sit together yakking away and paying little attention to the game while their young children grow bored, antsy and annoying trying to entertain themselves. I'm glad the families are at the game but, please, go sit in the end zone and let the little ones burn off some energy while you talk about everything but what's happening on the field. >:o

Quote from EWU Head Coach, Aaron Best:

“Davis played a hell of a game. They’re one hell of a team. Mr. (Keelan) Doss and Mr. (Jake) Maier are a deadly combination. We just happened to make one more play than they did. Hats off to Hawkins and his crew. They have a whole lot of good in their future.

  • Will the Fans Ever Really Come Back?
I'll never forget the Nevada-Reno game at the Toom in "77. My girlfriend (wife now!) and I squeezed ourselves into the west side stands. The crowd was crammed in like sardines, loud and electric, and the Ags responded by knocking off the #1 Wolfpack. It was a crazy good, collegiate football atmosphere. I want to see that kind of atmosphere to return to Aggie Stadium but I not sure that's going to happen.

I don't want to cast a dim light on the current resurgence that we're seeing in the program but the lack of support by the students and the Davis community is discouraging. I really don't think the majority of Davis students are interested in football or other intercollegiate sports for that matter...certainly not like the students at the bigger, west coast FBS programs.

The City of Davis itself has grown dramatically since the mid-70's but we are not seeing a corresponding increase in attendance. Davis is a highly educated and progressive community and I think that the popularity of football has decreased among most Davis residents who see football as a dangerous sport. You really can't blame them with all the research continuing to show the debilitating effects of repeated hits to the head.

I think the times have just changed...
  • Week 6: Eastern Washington @ UC Davis
Total yards: Ags 551 EWU 501

    Gubrud 33-53 for 452 and 6 TD's and Maier 33-55 for 367 and 2 TD's

The blocked FG hurt but, even bigger, was the offensive pass interference call on an Aggie receiver away from the play when Doss made a catch down to the 1 yard line. We would have had 1st and goal at the 1.

I don't like that conservative play calling in the final two minutes...

Wow...not like what we've seen from Hawkins this year...

Ok...here we go. I'm trying to watch the game from Santa Fe but the internet connection is slow. I might have to just listen on the radio feed.

Bob Dunning picks the Ags by 6:

"AGGIES over EASTERN WASHINGTON … the Big Sky has become known far and wide as a high-scoring, take-no-prisoners, defense-be-damned conference where the combined scores of the combatants may well exceed 100 points. This game will be no exception. Two exceptionally talented teams on a collision course in what well may be the Big Sky’s Game of the Year. Take the Ags by 6."

My wife and I are going to miss this one and the Poly game. We're on a road trip in the southwest and Colorado. I'll be watching tomorrow on Big Sky TV. You might hear me cheering for the Ags all the way from Santa Fe!
  • SB Nation Names Moneke Big West Player of the Year
Moneke is going to draw a crowd this year in every game he plays. He has gotten a lot of attention and accolades in the past year and teams will be focusing heavily on him. He'll need some of his teammates to really step up and show they can hurt you if you decide to double and triple team Moneke. We'll need that to happen to take some of the pressure of Chima.
  • Mid-Major Madness Picks the Ags to Finish 2nd in the Big West
It's going to be interesting to see how this team comes together. You would think that after losing 4 starters to graduation this would be a rebuilding year. I'm hoping we are reloading though. I feel pretty good about the new recruits he has brought in and hope they will be able to help us pick up where we left off last year.
  • 2018 recruit Kehei Clark decommits
No doubt it's a bigger stage and I hope he has success there. If verbalrecruits.com is correct, he only had 3 offers: Davis, Xavier and Virginia. Those are 3 good offers but, for some reason...size??..he has not generated a lot of offers. That makes me wonder how he may fare with the kind of basketball talent the ACC has. Time will tell...
  • 2018 recruit Kehei Clark decommits
It will be interesting to see how he does at Virginia. He had a chance to be a big fish in the pond as an Aggie. Wish we had him but so it goes...
  • Week 6: Eastern Washington @ UC Davis
I watched a little bit of the Sac at EWU game also. Sac's QB, a transfer from UNLV, is an impressive athlete who is a dual threat and he can create something out of nothing. He had a lot to do with the number of rushing yards EWU gave up.
  • Week 5: North Dakota @ UC Davis
A couple more suggestions that would help pump the atmosphere:

    1) The Aggie Pack needs someone on a mic to coordinate them and help make them a dominate presence and deafeningly loud. I didn't see that happening very much last night.

    2) The big screen is awesome and the videos of the players dancing and telling "bad jokes" had the fans in stitches. However, the fan cam that they put up at times needs to be used over on the Aggie Pack also. The students would eat that up and make a lot of noise. Seems like they haven't quite worked out the kinks of using the fan cam yet.
