How many games he has played shouldn’t be relevant. Hes either ready now or he isn’t. If hes not ready that ok but that’s what redshirt years and practice reps are for. The kid is talented nobody is denying that. That doesn’t make it ok for him to miss wide open throws or sit back looking scared in the pocket every other play. He wasn’t even really pressured by a P5 d-line because the O-line did a decent job of holding up but the way he was playing you would thought he had no time. There needs to be a change I haven’t seen much improvement from him game 1 to now. Still scared, unconfident and missing throws that should be gummies. He was missing guys on swing passes and screens for god sake. I’m not even talking about the balls down the field that aside from one against usd he hasn’t looked good at either

The other thing I would point out is that of their recovering yards it was entirely on our linebackers and safeties busting coverages or just getting beat. They went at Richardson once and he broke it up and I don’t even know if Cofield got a target. They clearly recognized the strength and weakness in our pass defense.

If we can solve our safety issue by getting Rex and Kam totten back sooner than later and then figure out the quarterback play we should be ok.

Less about what kollock is doing and more about what cleeland is not. He misses too many throws, looks scared in the pocket and just is not ready to be a full time starter.

Kollock just made a throw that Cleeland has struggled to make all year. there needs to be a serious conversation about that position. Too many weapons to keep missing them all over the field and wide open screens every week.

I’m really hoping the backup looks good here because Cleeland is not going to get us past the first round of the playoffs with his decision making

Not that we were going to win this game but cleeland and the safety play in this game have taken what could have been a respectable game and made it ridiculous.

Terrible decisions by cleeland and just an unwillingness to sit in the pocket and make big boy throws or put his head down on runs.

The safeties have looked lost on every single play action play and been completely uncompetitive with the ball in the air.

Part of that is a calculated risk for him though. Realistically his best shot at making the league is going to be a team taking late round flyer or udfa deal. In either case him having special teams tape is going to be extremely important

How much of of that was about our lack of run defense or the strength of our DB’s? I think both are true. The run defense was abismal at times but when we have two of the best corners in the country it also makes throwing the ball unattractive.

Agree a 2.0 should be attainable let’s not attack a kid for something that we still have no real information about. We don’t even know if this is truly what it is or what his involvement was. And even if it is the case we all have made mistakes. Let’s just hope he gets back on track. Seems like a good kid.

How did the defense look at yesterdays scrimmage?

Only person I could see coming back that this would help is Ian Simpson of maybe Jayden Stanley given our lack of depth at those spots. Issue would be getting them enrolled in school in time for the season. This is also assuming they are still in football shape.

What I don’t think is talked about enough is that Richardson had the stats he did considering how many games he missed. He also was never noticeably beat in the way that cofield was in multiple games last year. Not to mention the way he played against Washington. Denzel Boston never looked like the player he did the rest of the season against him. I think our corner room is going to be elite this year with him all the way healthy and cofield back. Coach Jordan has done great job recruiting and developing that room

Both guys had big opportunities to transfer up and chose to stay. Says a lot about the coaching staff especially in the case of Richardson with this being his last year. Would be interested in hearing from plough on the podcast one of these days on how they even found him from d3. Obviously missed him coming out of high school but getting him has been a big hit for them.

Take a look at the updated spring roster. As I said before he was always an undergraduate student. He was just incorrectly listed by the SID. Very glad we have him and cofield back. Was told they both were getting huge offers to leave but the appeal of graduating from davis for richardson and continuing to develop for cofield were what kept them at davis.
