Seems like a stunning story. The San Jose Mercury also has a (late) article out today.

USA Today: San Jose State whistleblower sues school over handling of sex abuse scandal; retaliation

"The San Jose State University swim coach who blew the whistle on sexual abuse allegations against the school’s the sports medicine director has sued the university and several top administrators.

"Sage Hopkins, who filed the lawsuit last month, alleges SJSU and its administrators covered up the abuse claims while engaging in a retaliatory campaign to discredit him. He is seeking damages in excess of $25,000.

"Hopkins is the second official to file suit in connection with the scandal implicating Scott Shaw, the school’s former head athletic trainer. SJSU’s former deputy athletic director Steve O’Brien filed his own claim against the school in March.

"USA TODAY reported on the allegations against Shaw for the first time publicly in April 2020. Reporters interviewed six of the more than 20 female athletes who said Shaw touched them beneath their undergarments, massaging their breasts and pelvic areas when they sought treatment for other parts of their bodies...."

"Hopkins first reported allegations against Shaw to the school in 2009 after 17 members of the women’s swimming diving team said he had inappropriately touched them. ..."

"Hopkins accused the officials of destroying or concealing the documentation he provided them years earlier detailing Shaw’s abuse, as well as taking unjust disciplinary actions against him since the new investigation began in order to undermine his credibility. ..."
