DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis head football coach Dan Hawkins announced the hiring of Quinn Shanbour to coach the Aggies quarterbacks. Shanbour comes to Davis from the University of North Texas.

"Quinn comes highly recommended by people we trust," Coach Hawkins said. "He has been a part of one of the most explosive offenses in the country and has quarterback experience. Quinn and his family will melt into and add to our amazing culture in UC Davis!"

Shanbour joined the UNT coaching staff in 2019 and most recently was an analyst that worked with the Mean Green quarterbacks.

This past season UNT quarterback Austin Aune set a new UNT record with 33 touchdown passes and led the nation averaging 15.29 yards per completion.

He served as a graduate assistant from 2020-21, spending time with both the quarterbacks and tight ends. In 2020, Shanbour helped mentor the UNT quarterbacks. Under his guidance UNT finished 25th nationally in passing offense with 283.0 ypg.

A native of Oklahoma City, Okla., Shanbour appeared in 28 games in his time as a UNT student-athlete, and served on the team's leadership council in 2017 and 2018. He walked on at Oklahoma State before transferring to North Texas in 2013.

Shanbour has four degrees from UNT including three master's degrees (2015, 2017, 2019, 2021). He and his wife, Alexis, have two children, Charlotte and Maverick.

Has never actually been the QB coach.
Hawkins seems to like hiring young guys who had analyst positions with FBS schools.
2018 Player stats: Finished 6 of 16 for 53 yards with three interceptions and had 21 carries for 89 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games

    “ and has quarterback experience.”
I hope he has a lot of QB experience if he’s going to be our QB coach.

doesn’t sound like it - hope he works out. Maybe at least he knows what not to do judging from his own QB stats :-).

Here is a profile of the QB coach.

H.S. Graduate in Oklahoma, then a year at a Connecticut prep school with likely goal of getting an Ivy League scholarship, then offered walk on at Oklahoma State, injured in spring so never played for them, then walk on at North Texas, best game was his last with two rushing touchdowns coming in as reserve. Earned multiple degrees before using up his eligibility and then more as an assistant. So clearly a hard working and studious guy. 30 years old, never an on field coach. Must be something special about him, because Davis has two guys on staff, who’ve coached QBs but are now the running back coach and the tight end coach.

Hey guys, Mean Green (North Texas) fan here. Don’t let those stats fool you. Quinn was a favorite down here. His limited playing time was due to the fact that he came in as a walk-on but earned a scholarship later (a very difficult thing to do at QB) while the other QBs were moved to other positions. What stats don’t tell you is he had limited playing time because he was backing up a QB who set all the records at UNT and is now starting QB in the Canadian league. Let’s just say, he always produced when he came in despite the opponent. My buddy on the team said Quinn (5’11) could read any defense formation. His knowledge was off the charts. I remember when our stud QB went down with less than one minute in the half at the Iowa (Hawkeyes) UNT was down 9-6 and Quinn by running and throwing drove the Green 60 yards in three for the go ahead TD on the Iowa’s first team D. The crowd actually booed their 1st team D when going into the locker room at half!! A backup made them look silly. We eventually got our butts beat but Quinn did not see any action the rest of the game. Just a little background on him. I think Hawkins knows what he is doing and did his research.
