This thread is for ALL THINGS FCS POST-SEASON, not just Davis, but of course we'll be the main part of the conversation.

Right now it's looking like a Bison, Griz, Bobcat show - with Montana State perhaps playing the best FCS football in the country currently.

After the loss to Idaho State, the Aggies should drop, but with #5 South Dakota State, #2 Tarleton and #8 North Dakota also losing -- it'll make for an interesting voting block. I'm using the FCS Coaches Poll, which I think, has the most weight come Selection time.

We've been wading around with Lehigh, Tennessee Tech, Monmouth and Villanova for much of the season. Looking at the schedules of these teams, I personally think that's a bit of a joke judging by the level of weekly competition they've been seeing vs. what UC Davis has been seeing. However, having said all that, we are injured and while the M*A*S*H unit finally got exposed today, we still have a pretty solid offense, that can score on anybody except the University of Washington, so how far will the Aggies fall? The injuries matter, and it'll matter to the Selection Committee unless the replacements ball out in November...bad start.

Playoffs for Davis? Beat Idaho, stay in the game vs. the Bobcats though I doubt the Aggies shock the FCS world in mid-November, in Bozeman... and of course, beat Sac, above all beat Sac, who we may not play again for a decade. Without having the Mercer decision, the Bears are currently ranked 13th, Davis will need 8 wins to get in. NAU win losing luster, UNC win losing luster...all the other teams we've played at the FCS level other than Mercer have turned to trash as the year has progressed. The Aggie resume isn't good, and losing to Idaho State, at home, tarnishes that resume in the most egregious way possible at this point.

yeah and let's be honest their FCS schedule this year without Mercer hasn't been that good. Idaho was supposed to be good.

Looking at it now, absolutely, with Weber, Utah Tech and Southern Utah all falling on hard seasons - the strength of schedule in conference is also dipping. it's a backloaded schedule for sure - designed to get the Mercer win and beat everybody, including Idaho State, now it's just wtf mode. Gotta win two.

I will be there! Sadly another Ag alum bought tickets for himself but didn't know the time until he asked on Thursday. Told him 4pm and he's helping at a charity dinner at 6.

I'm missing the Idaho game in exchange for repping the Ags in Bozeman. Not getting my hopes up but it would be a core memory to see the Ags pull off the miracle

Re: overall outlook, today I see that the Ags are still in the top 10 in Massey at #9. ISU (#37; moved up 11) seemed to benefit more from the win than we fell from the loss. Massey also thinks that SDSU's loss (to #53, after moving up 20) was significantly worse than ours yesterday, but the Jackrabbits overall are still the better team at #4, which tracks with what the human polls will almost certainly say tomorrow.

So I think a first-round home game with no bye would still be reasonable, especially with Idaho and Sac wins. Maybe a top-8 seed with upsetting MSU (~15% chance per Massey) and winning at least one of the other two games.

    7. North Dakota
    8. Tennessee Tech
    9. Mercer
    10. UC Davis

    12. South Dakota State
    13. Youngstown State
    14. Villanova
    15. Abilene Christian
    16. Illinois State
    17. Southern Illinois
    18. SFA
    19. Southeastern Louisiana University

    22. Jackson State
    23. South Dakota
    24. Austin Peay
    25. Northern Arizona

"There were times when I kept teams like Tarleton State and UND ahead of Lehigh and Harvard. But that meant not moving those two teams at all after losses because teams behind them also lost. And I didn’t like that. But losing on the road to rivals/teams in the playoff hunt in close games is different than UC Davis and SDSU losing at home to Idaho State and Indiana State."

Lehigh, Harvard, Tennessee Tech are all over-ranked in my opinion.

Of those three I think Tennessee Tech has the most talent.

strength of schedule is disparate. Thing is Idaho State could beat Lehigh and Tennessee Tech and it wouldn’t be a big surprise. Good coaching and weapons when clicking - really should have beat Montana too. Just the vagaries of college football. I was worried About the Idaho State game weeks in advance after watching them earlier.
