After an easy win over D2 Jessup, it gets tougher quickly. Idaho of the Big Sky comes to town fresh off a comeback 2 point win over Washington State. And looking for a little payback, since UCD beat them last year in Moscow, also in a comeback

The Vandals put four starters in double figures against the Cougars, led by Kyra Gardner’s 26. Preseason All Big Sky pick, Hope Hassan, contributed 17, while Ana Pinheiro and Lorena Barbosa had 16 and 10 respectively. Sophomore guard Ella Uriarte from Folsom High rounds out the starting five.

Ryann Bennet and Megan Norris will lead what was a balanced Aggie starting lineup in the Jessup game. UCD may be bit short-handed due to injuries to Sahana Kanagasabay, Helen Matthews, Vic Baker and Ally Fitzgerald. Regardless, Davis will be looking for solid contributions off the bench from freshmen Emmy Ersdala, Sophie Lentfer, and Carrington Davis, as well as redshirt sophomore, Theoni Tsami.

The early start is for Field Trip Day, with a large contingent of local elementary and middle school students expected. Bring your noice cancelling headphones and listen to Greg Wong on radio!!

Due to a previous commitment, I will miss this game, unfortunately.

Noise cancelling headphones are pretty much essential for Aggie games - they've imported massive subwoofers, cranked up the bass along with the volume, making going to Aggie basketball games somewhat unpleasant. Almost as bad as football where we just quit going and watch on TV.

The Aggies got up by 15 late in the second quarter and then got sloppy in the last 3 minutes and let the Vandals get back into the game. 41-37 Ags now with 7 minutes to go in the 3rd.

At the end of the 3rd it’s Ags by 2. Fast paced game. Both teams running. Vandal transition game is awesome. Will we have enough stamina to hang with the deep visitors? A quarter will tell

Ags go up 76-65 before 5,667 screaming fans with 7:02 to go. Five Ags in double figures. Starters have all but maybe 5 points

How in the world were there 5,000 fans vs. 800 a few nights before the men?
Schedule says "Field Trip Day" 4,500 free tickets!?

    I'd like to see pics!

I couldn't go to today's game due to previous appointments. It was great to come out of lunch and see the final score.

Looks from the box score that the starters were lights out and that Lender and Ersdala did just enough. Hope we get some of the walking wounded back soon, or that Davis and Tsami get to the point where Gross feel they can play more minutes.

Great win by the Aggies in front of a huge crowd. This is a team has the potential to one of the great Aggie women's teams. It's going to be fun to watch them this year.

Of note: I watched the last few minutes of the UC Riverside @ Arizona game last night. UCR lost in the finals seconds and they looked really good. It was no fluke that they nearly beat Arizona. Former Aggie, Bria Shine, is a grad student transfer at UCR and she forced a steal in the final seconds and the Highlanders had a chance to tie the game with 2 seconds left but missed the second of a 1 and 1.

WHAT HEAD COACH JENNIFER GROSS HAD TO SAY

"First of all, I just want to give a huge thank you to everybody who made this day possible. Our athletic department for pouring in the resources necessary to create such an atmosphere, and the Davis and surrounding school districts for bringing the kids out. This is exactly what I was hoping it would be for our student-athletes, and it was a ton of fun. That's a really good Idaho team. We were a bit short-handed today, and I was so proud of how we competed. We played together, we created for each other, I thought we just played a high level of urgency the whole game."

Largest crowd ever or largest crowd in the D1 days? Or largest crowd in this configuration of the Rec Hall?

I thought we had some Break The Record Night crowds that were bigger than that... time to go look in the old press guides, I guess.

Looks like the old BTRN record was 46xx, and the "modern" attendance record prior to today was the 2014 UConn game with 47xx. TIL.

Some kind of a special promo w local schools where kids they skip class, free admission (?) and come to a women's ball game.

There were busloads of elementary kids on campus for a variety of STEM events before the game. Then they got the sheepdogs going and herded them all into the Facility Once Known as Rec Hall. it was LOUD. I got warnings from my watch about exceeding safe continuous sound limits.

If there had been that many solid basketball fans for the Ags in the facility the place would have totally rocked. Even half that number would be amazing.

And this team clearly deserves to be seen and cheered for. They played a high-tempo team that could switch in a flash from defense into transition. But this is an Aggie team that does the same thing - better!

Here is a gallery of shots from the game.
