  • Sacramento Kings star Mike Bibby to become Sacramento State's men's basketball coach
Les definitely has his positives, but we are still a middling program and his record here sounds like it is breakeven. We were strong for a few years in a row a couple times but he could not take that success and create a more consistent winning program. All the while other Big West times blew us by like CSUN coming out of the cellar to pass us by and UCSD coming out of DII to blow right by us. I thought I heard that our total athletic budget is one of the highest in the nation for a school at the FCS football level. So, it seems we have a competitive budget.

Hawkins was a good guy and had success, but Plough seems to have brought new energy to the program. Maybe the basketball program could find some new energy in a new coach.
  • 2025 MBB Recruiting and Transfers
Our roster looks pretty thin. Unless we get some strong transfers, it seems like we will have a rough year next year.
  • Jon Wilner article on NCAA chaos
If the schools start paying the athletes directly, then they are both student and employee. How do you fire an employee when they start flunking their classes. If the professors didn't already have enough pressure to pass these kids, they will have even more pressure now. With the non-geographic league re-alignment going on, there will be even more travel for these kids making their education more of an afterthought. I like watching Davis sports and I like to see us win, but I was always proud when we were a DII school and in a non-scholarship league but still had one of the best football teams in the country at that level. I always felt that is where "Aggie Pride" came from.
  • Looking forward to 2025
What about Bo Eason's kid? Is he still coming to Davis? Just not until the 25/26 year? I am hoping he is a big star like hi s Dad!

    How about a new coach?
  • Low Interest in Men's Basketball?
In prior years I was eager to stream Davis basketball games but haven't watched more than parts of a couple games this year. I am frustrated with just more of the same in terms of big expectations each year and then poor performance. I am sick of the guard oriented offense with almost no easier shots in the paint. I often hear from other coaches how well coached our team is, but then CSUN and Riverside leap frog us from the depths of the Big West. How does that happen if we have such a great coach? Is this just the cycles of a mediocre Big West conference? Will the MWC be a bigger conference draw for athletes? I don't think those teams are any better at basketball than our teams.

I like Les' obvious competitive nature, but don't like his anger or offensive scheme. I wouldn't mind trying a new coach.
  • Quarterfinals Week 16: UC Davis (11-2) @ South Dakota (10-2)
Tough game to watch. Coming in with high expectations and then to not play your best is really frustrating. Will be fun to see who steps up next year to fill key vacancies.
  • Rd.2 PLAYOFFS Week 15: UC Davis vs. Illinois State
I thought this was Hastings best game as an Aggie. On the mark for the longer passes. Hope we can keep up the good play next week and then get another crack at Montana St.
  • MBB: Cal Poly (5-4) at UC Davis (3-4) Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6:00 pm
The commentators said Les changed the starting lineup as Cal Poly was smaller and we wanted to make sure we could cover their guys on defense. For years Les seems to adjust our lineup to the other teams instead of imposing our will on them. When we play stronger programs with more than one big man we often complain that we are too small and couldn't compete. If so, then why does that not work for us when we are bigger. When we played Oregon St. they were getting tons of shots in the paint and all we can do is shoot threes. When we have good big men all they do is shoot threes and post up to block defenders and free up a guard for a three. Mikey Henn left our program and ended up at Penn St. for his last year playing ball. Why couldn't we keep a guy like that and have him develop here. I would prefer that we develop a different strategy. I am sick of years of hot and cold three point shooting dictating our wins and losses.
  • 2024 Week 11: UC Davis (8-1) @ Montana (7-2)
What a great win. Now I believe in this team. They wanted it tonight. Defense was really strong and the O-line made holes and gave Hastings time to throw. Win or lose at Montana St., we are finally playing with the big boys and things are looking up for the program.
  • 2024 Week 5: Idaho (3-1) @ UC Davis (3-1)
Our D line really figured things out. Idaho was moving the ball at will in Q1, but they started making stops and getting pressure. What a turnaround!! Great game.
  • 2024 Week 5: Idaho (3-1) @ UC Davis (3-1)
    Plough made this unnecessarily close!
  • 2024 Week 5: Idaho (3-1) @ UC Davis (3-1)
A field goal puts Idaho down two TD’s with limited time left. More predictable for defense to cover. More pressure on 3rd string QB. Takes more time to score 2TD’s. We are lucky to be ahead with 3 interceptions and should have taken what was there. Idaho had their way with us in 1st quarter and could. do it again. Hope for a D hold
  • 2024 Week 5: Idaho (3-1) @ UC Davis (3-1)
    Should have taken field goal!!!!
  • 2024 Week 5: Idaho (3-1) @ UC Davis (3-1)
The Utah Tech game was painful to watch. We can move the ball, force turnovers but can't put it in the endzone. We should have had over 50 points, Utah Tech was so bad. Hastings tried some 20 yard plus passes but was not on target. So far this does not look like "Shredville". Maybe that prior success was due to Maier and Doss and less to do with Plough. I was really hopeful coming into this season that we might finally make the playoffs again, but that seems more doubtful now.

I know we have a bunch of guys hurt. Hopefully, they come back and make a big difference.
  • 2024 Week 2: Texas A&M Commerce (0-1) @ UC Davis (0-1)
I wouldn't mind if Plough bought a razor and used it before press events and either ditched the hat or turned it around with the bill facing forward to look a little more serious. He doesn't need to be Pat Riley as that is not Davis style but he also doesn't need to look like he just finished cleaning out of the hog pen!
  • 2024 Week 1: UC Davis @ UC Berkeley
I guess it will be all 5 yd and 10 yd passes all year. 20 yards and we are taking our chances and longer forget about it. Should have brought 2nd string QB in 4th quarter. We weren’t going to win and the pre season is about getting people experienced
  • Hugh Watanabe
We often get good big men but then never use them well and many transfer. Davis seems to be the place where big men come to die.
  • 2025 Football Recruiting
That doesn't sound right. A team has to make more offers than they have room as many prospects don't accept the offers. So, I always thought that was the pressure applied to prospects. For example, we made 5 offers on a position but only have 3 scholarships available so the prospects need to hurry up and accept or take the risk that all scholarships are now spoken for.
  • Tim Plough Named New UC Davis Head Football Coach
Hastings has had trouble with passes longer than 5-10 yards. Shredville under Maier included a lot of deep balls. I guess Plough could change it up and do the no huddle up tempo offense but keep it to short passes and Hastings could stay in there.
