I think we lose Caden too.

UC Davis is a state funded school, as are all UC and CalState schools. Creating our own conference reduces costs and increases opportunities for California kids who want to stay home for school.

Stanford and Cal survived only because of USC and UCLA success for decades. Now with those school in the BIG the schools are exposed. They are excellent academic institutions but football always falls short. They had to beg the ACC a conference on the east coast to take them in. However, this set up is already wearing thin as many in the ACC are tired of the cross country travel. So what is the future if they get left out of the next tv deal?

I think once FBS goes to the super conference with only 50 D1 schools, there will be a resurgent push for conferences like the pac. Expenses will take a front seat as schools look to provide colllege sports like football at a lower cost than the 50 super conference teams. This is where you will see a potential Davis, Cal, Stanford, SDSU, SACST, etc create new conferences

Personally, I think the state of California should consider creating a “California Conference” to maximize opportunities for California kids and keep revenue in state.

Cal doesn't have a way forward in FBS football. ACC is a short term answer, there is already complaining coming from ACC schools who don't want to travel across the country for a league game. If ACC kicks them out, where do they go?
  • Coaching Carousel
I know Cal. I grew up in the Bay. That schools football program is hanging on by a thread. It would not shock me if in 10 years Cal and Davis are in the same league.
  • Coaching Carousel
When was the last time Cal won anything? They play in the ACC. They have very high academic standards. It's a great university, but for football??? Nah.

    Davis is way better option.
  • Coaching Carousel
    yeah for 3 years...then what?
  • Coaching Carousel
disagree. Cal is only going to give him 3 years max. Add in cost of living, moving,....Cal is not a great place for a football coach. Stanford too. Those are research universities with a crappy fan base. They have no road to success. ZERO.
  • Coaching Carousel
Why? Why would you uproot your family for a 3 year gig max? You'd make more money at Davis in the long term. Way more....
  • Coaching Carousel
$2M for what 3 years max? Cal goes through coaches like used tissue paper on a bad cold day. After 3 years he gets fired and then what? Start over? Instead, he stays at UC Davis where his kids can attend elementary school and grow. He could stay here for 10 years....make more money, more success, and raise his kids a small community. There is nothing Cal has that is better than UC Davis. Nothing.

Do you know with SACST struggles and Cal letting Wilcox go, if we are reaching out to their committed players who might want to flip? There are some good prospects we should target. I also would hope we are putting a fence around the Sacramento area.

I don't think Coach Plough would want to raise his kids in Berkeley. Think about it, Davis is the perfect spot for him. The university is top notch. Its in a great small California town. He is actively building something that could if things fall his way become bigger than Cal or Stanford football. I think he stays and I see him being very successful here as we transition to the FBS.

Go to your season tickets renew tab. Click that and when you purchase your playoff tickets you will have the option of buying student tickets. I bought $100 worth for the kids.
  • 2026 Football Recruiting
Any updates from recruits at the game? We had a great atmosphere for SAC and I was curious if any recruits came what their thoughts were.
  • 2025 FCS Playoffs
I can't tell you how excited I am that Davis gets the opportunity to go to NDSU in the playoffs. These kinds of opportunities are rare. They are program changing games. I know, I know the odds...but just for a second think, if Davis went up to NDSU and BEAT NDSU do you know how much publicity that would give the program? Will it be hard? Sure, but we have a chance and to me that is what its all about. Go Ags!

How exciting! This is great news and makes me very proud! Shout out to all who worked to make this happen. I hope we can keep this AD, but his stock is soaring right now.

    haha "Fruit Forwards" classic.

Trust me, I'm with you. I would love to call out the QB but, as other posters pointed out, he is just in his 1st year as a starter. Do I wish he had better field vision? Sure. Do I wish our special teams were better? Sure. But, if you step back and just look at trend line of UC Davis football, its trending up. I have many friends in FBS recruiting for many of the big schools and even they were like "I'm seeing more Davis in the camps...more kids talking about staying in California and looking at Davis." This never happened as long as I can remember. So, what does this tell me? It tells me, we are doing the right things. All we need is a once in a generation player to pop. Once that happens (and it will), Davis will move up big time in CFB.

*I also think if we changed our name from "Aggies" to "Winemakers" or "Fighting Grapes" we'd distinguish our school as the best wine making school in the world. This would further make us distinct from UCLA an Cal. If people knew we are the best wine makers in the world...that can only get us more recognition. Not going to happen, but I think it would be awesome.
