Coaching Carousel Stanford and Cal survived only because of USC and UCLA success for decades. Now with those school in the BIG the schools are exposed. They are excellent academic institutions but football always falls short. They had to beg the ACC a conference on the east coast to take them in. However, this set up is already wearing thin as many in the ACC are tired of the cross country travel. So what is the future if they get left out of the next tv deal?
I think once FBS goes to the super conference with only 50 D1 schools, there will be a resurgent push for conferences like the pac. Expenses will take a front seat as schools look to provide colllege sports like football at a lower cost than the 50 super conference teams. This is where you will see a potential Davis, Cal, Stanford, SDSU, SACST, etc create new conferences
Personally, I think the state of California should consider creating a “California Conference” to maximize opportunities for California kids and keep revenue in state.
