Another thought: Once we actually have the LOI's signed and the 2017 class is in, I think it would be interesting to see the schools that each player had offers from and chose UCD over. I've noticed that quite a few schools do that when they post player bio's on sighing day. It's kind of like a feather in the school's hat to say this player chose UCD over these 9 schools etc.

Those are good ideas. Regardless, you've done a great job here keeping us up to date on our recruiting as best as can be found out. (Y)

Well...could we possibly be trying to get him to change his mind...?? Do coaches make offers to kids who have already made a verbal commitment?
  • 2017 Recruiting
I just edited my previous post since I saw that Rivals has Modise committed to Southeastern Louisiana.

Rivals shows that Namane Modise is verbally committed to Southeastern Louisiana...??
  • 2017 Recruiting
Now that the majority of recruits have already made their verbal commitments, I was wondering if coaches will still be contacting those recruits and making home visits in an effort to get them to change their minds? I know we have had a few recruits change their minds at the 11th hour in the past.

herosports also posted a National Top 25 FCS Recruits list as of January 19th and Eastern Washington has #23 WR Andrew Boston and #18 WR Johnny Edwards IV, North Dakota has #15 DE Ezekiel Ott and Montana State has #14 DB Jalen Cole.

According to their list Sac State has landed the top recruit so far LB Tysyn Parker who had a bunch of offers including UCD...(oh well...scratching my head...) but we have 3 guys in their top 17 (#17 DE Luka Nixon, #11 WR Kristian Gilbert and #10 WR Logan Montgomery). Certainly this list is highly subjective and really doesn't mean all that much.
  • WBB: UC Riverside (10-8 & 4-1) @ the Aggies (13-6 & 4-2)
Kourtney is playing great at the point. When this team gets in a flow they can really light it up. They execute give and go's and back door cuts beautifully and do a good job of ball movement and finding the open player. With only one senior on the team and an excellent recruiting class coming in, the future of women's basketball is looking very, very good.
  • MBB: Aggies (10-7, 2-0) @ UC Riverside (2-11, 0-2)
Poly just got their first conference win of the season by taking down undefeated Irvine 79-66 in Anaheim. That means that Irvine will come into the Pavilion 6-1 on Saturday and the Ags could move ahead of them with a win. That would give Irvine their 2nd loss and the Ags could end up either tied with Riverside for first place or in sole possession of the lead if Riverside falls to CSUN.

    Topsy turvy Big West...
  • WBB: UC Riverside (10-8 & 4-1) @ the Aggies (13-6 & 4-2)
The Ags roll over Riverside 72-53 and were led by Pele Gianotti with 22 points on 8-11 from the floor. The blistering 3rd quarter was the tale of this game when the Aggies practically shut out the Highlanders 26-4. The Ags did a great job on the Big West leading scorer, Rejane Verin, holding her to just 10 points and 5-20 shooting.

Although the rebounding margin was close, UCR 41-39, the Ags gave up an astounding 21 offensive boards and still managed to win. If Riverside hadn't gone stone cold in the 3rd this game may have had a different outcome due to all those offensive boards. The Aggies do not lack size but they do lack quickness and a nose for the ball. Jen Gross will need to keep working with her team to shore up the rebounding because you just will not win against good teams very often when you give up 21 offensive boards.

What a quarter for the Aggies as they outscore the Highlanders 26-4 and lead 60-35 after 3. Hot shooting and great defense told the story of this quarter.

My previous comment about this game "probably going down to the wire," well uh, they proved me wrong big time!

Maybe he grew a bunch since the 2016 Nike+ rating day!
  • WBB: UC Riverside (10-8 & 4-1) @ the Aggies (13-6 & 4-2)
Ags 34 UCR 31 at the half in an entertaining ball game. The Aggies went up by ten with 3 minutes to go in the half. They had a chance to stretch the lead but missed a couple of layups, turned the ball over, allowed a couple of offensive boards and Riverside scored the last 7 points of the half.

This game looks like it probably go down to the wire.

UCR 20 Aggies 19 at the end of the first quarter.

He looks a small speed demon. He has a pic on his twitter account showing his rating from the Nike+ football rating day in Los Angeles. His overall score was 91.77. He was in the 98th percentile in the 40 yd dash, vertical leap and agility. They have him listed at 5'9 and 144 lbs so I imagine they'll be looking beefing him up a bit but the athletic ability is certainly there already.

Volek is a dyed in green Hornet through and through and he's old school intense. I remember one close battle at Sac where Volek was pacing the sidelines like a caged animal. It was so much fun to beat him over and over again!

The rematch with UCR in the Pavilion should be a great game and one the Aggies will want very badly. I think they left Riverside with a bad taste in their mouths after playing so poorly for about 37 minutes of the game. Riverside is tough though. I think they are the most surprising team in the Big West this year.
