  • Former Sac State QB Greg Knapp Critically Injured in a Bike Accident
Unfortunately, I'm not surprised at all because this has been happening with frequency all over the country for many years. It's essentially open season for cyclists when it comes to being hit by distracted and impaired drivers and it won't change until public outrage gets the politicians and city officials attention. The problem is that the outcry from the small number of cycling advocates simply falls on deaf ears.

Here is a list of cyclists killed by drivers in San Francisco since 1996. Note how many are hit and runs:

  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
The Ags have lost 5 straight to Weber and is 2-6 historically overall against the Wildcats. Time to break the losing streak!

    Quotes from Hawk:

“I like to start fast and finish strong,” said Hawkins.

“That was magic in the stadium,” said the Aggie coach. “I want our guys to take stock of what happened and appreciate all that and then go back to work. To be honest, we’re not surprised we’re 3-0, but even if we were 1-2, our job and our focus would be the same. The culture here is great and every week we just want to be the best version of ourselves.”

I still pull for the Irish and have for decades. I grew up in a small town in the middle of Indiana and I idolized ND football. I would love to attend a game between Notre Dame and Michigan but my wife wouldn't appreciate me rooting for the Irish since she's a Michigan grad!

I am an active member the Model Ship World Forum which is a forum for model ship building enthusiasts, We have over 35,000 members world wide. The forum does not allow any topics or posts about politics or religion or posts that are sexual in nature and the moderators monitor the posts carefully. A member can get up to 2 warnings and is permanently suspended for a 3rd violation.

With over 35,000 members, we have folks of every political and religious persuasion and most certainly all sexual orientations but warnings are rare because everyone respects the rules not to post about these topics. The forum is for ship modeling discussions and that's what we do. I've made friends from all over the world on the MSW forum through our collective interest in ship modeling.

It would nice if politics were kept out of our Aggie sports topics and everyone just discussed our love of Aggie athletics. I with you on that 100%.

Yes and the percentages of breakthrough cases in the vaccinated is extremely low:

The data reported from these states indicate that breakthrough cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are extremely rare events among those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (see Figure 1). The rate of breakthrough cases reported among those fully vaccinated is below 1% in all reporting states, ranging from 0.01% in Connecticut to 0.54% in Arkansas.
The hospitalization rate among fully vaccinated people with COVID-19 ranged from effectively zero (0.00%) in California, Delaware, D.C., Indiana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Vermont, and Virginia to 0.06% in Arkansas. (Note: Hospitalization may or may not have been due to COVID-19.)
The rates of death among fully vaccinated people with COVID-19 were even lower, effectively zero (0.00%) in all but two reporting states, Arkansas and Michigan where they were 0.01%. (Note: Deaths may or may not have been due to COVID-19.)

    100% agree.

It is the people who are unvaccinated who are continuing to drive the Covid pandemic which has now killed more people than the the Great Flu Pandemic of 1918.

    https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2021-09-20/us-coronavirus-death-toll-surpasses-1918-flu-pandemic

Based on approximately 530,000 hospital admissions with confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis in June-August 2021, we estimate 98.6% of hospital admissions with COVID-19 during this period were among unvaccinated people (1 – 7,617/530,000 equals 98.6%). Reports of COVID-related hospitalizations among unvaccinated people range from 95% to 99.9% by state. Based on a recent CDC study of 13 jurisdictions, we used a conservative estimate of 86% of COVID-19 hospitalizations were unvaccinated people.

  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
They might have to give an alumni stampede an extra 10 minutes to make sure everyone makes it off the field!
  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
The alumni stampede would be awesome!
  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
I hope we have that kind of atmosphere for our next home game as well. Will the students return or where the majority of them their only for the student stampede?

Is there any reason we couldn't have a student stampede for every home game? Seems to me that that would be a great Aggie tradition to develop and a good way to get students in the stands.

Yes, the Versus model does consider the home vs visitor factor.
  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
It wasn't an egregious hit but I think it was a fair call, imo, given how closely they are calling any helmet to helmet contact. It appeared to me that Buchanan hit their QB high in the upper chest and chin area with his forearms up and Buchanan's helmet did make contact with the QB's face mask. Buchanan gave him a little extra push a second late that was unnecessary and then the helmet to helmet contact got the flag. It was avoidable. Live and learn...

I ran the Versus Simulator and it is currently predicting that the Aggies have a 52% chance of winning at Weber by a score of 29-28.

We are also averaging 44 points per game to Weber's 27.3 and we are allowing 17 points per game to Weber's 26.7. Another interesting stat from their site is that the average rank of our opponents is only 306 compared to Weber's 184.3 (this stat includes all FBS and FCS teams).

Other stats that include all FBS and FCS teams are:

Overall ranking: Ags 93 Weber 154
    Power: Ags 106 Weber 115
    Offense: Ags 89 Weber 138
    Defense: Ags 134 Weber 94

  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
The next time we play Dixie State they'll be known as Utah Tech.

If the Utah Legislature agrees, next year Dixie State, Located in St. George, will be known as Utah Tech University … the name change came about after intense pressure from the school’s Student Executive Council … the discussion, much of it heated, centered around the historic connection between the name Dixie and the Deep South’s ties to slavery … from 1952 to 2007, a Confederate soldier nicknamed “Rodney the Rebel” was the official school mascot and the Confederate flag was flown as the school symbol … in June of this year, school trustees voted for the name change, but the Utah Legislature has the final say

Post-game comments from Hawk and Gilliam:

“To see a crowd like that and the band and a great college atmosphere and all the excitement really provided the guys with some juice,” Hawkins said afterward. “When you can have a win like that and not play an especially clean game, that’s great. Sometimes you play great and don’t get a score like that.”

“It’s nice to be 3-0. That’s great,” Hawkins added. “The Aggies are in a good spot. To have UC Davis come out and support us like this means so much. We have great kids, great players and a great culture here, but there’s a long road ahead.”

“I always say football is about more than just the game. It’s about being with your fans and your family and seeing something exciting and creative and fun. We continue to make strides and where we’re at mentally is so fun as a coach,” Hawkins said. “These kids work so hard all week and we’re doing everything we can to try to win a football game.”

“Seeing our fans show up today was great,” Gilliam noted. “It was cool to see a whole university behind us. The coaches gave us a great game plan and it was just up to us to execute it.”

This is what can happen when a team thinks they just have to show up and roll to an easy win. So much of winning is about attitude and fire in the belly. Great win for NAU!
