Sac makes a game out of it but loses to Weber State 31-24.

Southern Utah hangs on and beats Northern Iowa 24-21. That makes two nice wins for the for the Thunderbirds after getting demolished by Oregon in their opener.

Idaho State hangs on to beat Nevada 30-28.

Yes, you could see the energy and enthusiasm on the sideline during the USD Game. Players turned to the fans and were waving their arms and towels in an effort to get the crowd into it on the critical plays. It's still early but we look like a dangerous team in the Big Sky at this point/

My wife and I were on the road but listened to the game on the radio. Wow...I wasn't expecting this. Sure made the long drive a lot more fun!

What a difference this coaching staff has made. I haven't felt this good about Aggie football in what seems like forever.
  • Lumberjack football to get the ax?
I think we are on our way to some exciting times with Blue and May at the helm!
  • Lumberjack football to get the ax?
Those 7pm games at a packed Toom were awesome!
  • Lumberjack football to get the ax?
Hahaha..."punted the ball backwards over his head"... X-)

Oh man, 72Aggie, you had to bring up that bad memory...that game was the infamous inauguration of Aggie Stadium played in something like 105 degree heat with fans passing out and being carted off to ambulances and then we lost to boot! It was the worst fan experience for a sporting event that I have ever had!

I think a little bit of the "homer" bias got to Bob but I hope he's right!
  • We're Finally Getting A Weekly Coaches Show!
I agree. I think we all tend to forget how much bias and politics there is in these polls.
  • We're Finally Getting A Weekly Coaches Show!
The Ags beat USD by 28 and get 2 votes and they get 16...uh, you gotta admit that that is completely screwy. (N)

Bob Dunning wrote an interesting article about the long history of PSU's Providence Park Stadium "which is one of the oldest, continuous operating stadiums in the country." He also noted the following:

"Of the 13 teams in the Big Sky Conference, Portland State was dead last in attendance last fall with an average of just over 4,500, which is barely 20 percent of capacity."

Sac State caught a big break in their soccer win over the Lady Ags. The Aggies were depleted with injuries and were down 3 starters to start the game and lost another during the game. Lousy luck!

Unfortunately, "hungry" might be an understatement about PSU. I think they are going to be revved up and ready to go after two frustrating loses to two FBS teams to start their season. They feel like they had a legitimate chance to win those games but came up short. Now they are back home and will be ready to take out their frustrations on the Ags.

This will be a stiff test for this young Aggie team. They will need weather the Vikings' storm of energy early in the game, play smart and within themselves, execute crisply, minimize mistakes, and make some critical plays to give themselves a chance to win this one.
  • Week 2: University of San Diego @ UC Davis
I was thinking the same thing about the hand clap snap but in the second half they weren't always snapping the ball on the first clap. I kept thinking that USD's defense was getting a head start since we were telegraphing the snap with such regularity. Maybe we're more interested in the speed of play than changing up the rhythm of the snap.

In the second half there were a few times where Maier would clap and then pull up and look to the sideline for the play and then go on the second clap. I've got to believe that there are some variations to the clap snap though. Otherwise, the opponent's defense can just tee off without hesitation on every play.
