  • Causeway Cup - 2025-2026
CSUS women defeated UCD in a gymnastics meet in Davis this afternoon by a score of 194.175 - 192.550. Running Causeway Cup score is now UCD 45.84, CSUS 14.17.

Next event is tomorrow and Tuesday, March 9-10 as the women's golf teams compete at the Julie Inskter Invitational to be played in San Francisco and hosted by San Jose State.
  • Causeway Cup - 2025-2026
Any discussion abougt the Causeway Cup begins with the realization that as we get into the "Olympic" or "Non-revenue" sports, it is not clear which events are included. Beach volleyball is an example. UCD and CSUS are scheduled to meet three times this year. The UCD site only lists two of those meetings. Today the teams met in Berkeley in the "Battle for the Bay." UCD defeated Sac, 3-2. Assuming this event counts the running Causeway Cup score is UCD 45.84, CSUS 11.67. If that passes official review then once again UCD has won the cup.

Next scheduled event is a gymnastics meet in Davis on March 8.
  • Causeway Cup - 2025-2026
UCD defeated Sac in women's golf over the last two days at the Causeway Invitational at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento. UCD finished 2nd of ten teams with 868 strokes. Sac was one place and one stroke behind.

Running causeway score is now UCD 44.17, CSUS 11.67. Scoring is somewhat murky as the UCD site lists two events in which both schools are competing, however the schools' schedules list three events.

Which leads to the next competition, maybe. Schedule for both schools say their beach volleyball teams will meet this coming Friday, February 27th, at the Battle for the Bay in Berkeley. UCD's Causeway site does not mention the meet. As noted, CSUS has given up posting anything suggesting a Causeway Cup competition.

Though with the expanded play-off system and the number of teams or players that decline to play in the other bowls, I think some of those college bowl games are fading away. I think the Los Angeles Bowl announced that last year was their last game. Someone, somewhere may try to fill the void, but college bowls may be a dying event.

  • Causeway Cup - 2025-2026
Sac women defeated UCD in a gymnastics meet at Sacramento yesterday. The socre was CSUS 193.625, UCD 192.225. Causeway score is now UCD 42.5, CSUS 11.67.

Next event is women's golf on February 23rd & 24th at the Causeway Invitational at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
Sac apparently has eight games scheduled leaving them with four open dates. Looks like MAC schedules eight conferfence games and teams are free to schedule four non-conference games. Unless they are going to play a limite MAC scheudle, Sac would have to get rid of four games (and those opponents will have to scramble to find games to fill their schedules.)

I assume they will be considered FBS by next season. If not and for some reason they are still classified as FCS then there may be MAC teams who do not want to add an FCS game if they already have one scheduled.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
What happens to their current 2026 schedule? Play a limited number of MAC opponents? Or cancel previously announced games (and presumably add more money to the costs of the move)?
  • Causeway Cup - 2025-2026
UCD women's golf completed the San Diego State Classic in a tie for 5th place of 12 teams with 881 strokes. That was one stroke behind Sac who finished in 4th with 880 strokes.
Causeway score is now UCD 42.5, CSUS 9.17.
Next event is gymnastics this coming Sunday in Sacramento.

  • Causeway Cup - 2025-2026
UCD defeated Sac in men's tennis this afternoon, 5-2. Ongoing Causeway score is now UCD 42.5, CSUS 5.

Next scheduled Causeway event is softball at the NorCal Kick-Off this coming THursday, February 5, in Davis.
  • Causeway Cup - 2025-2026
UCD finished first with 194.775 points in a four team gymnastics meet at Sac State last night. Sac was third with 194.125 points. (Western Michigan was second and Wisconsin-Whitewater fourth.)

Under the published guidelines for the Causeway Cup, "in women's gymnastics. The two 'home and home' meets shall be the only competitions that count toward the Causeway Cup." As a result I am not including the results of this event in the running Causeway score.

Next event is men's tennis on Saturday, January 31, in Davis.

  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
    Yikes!
I just looked at Sac's men's basketball schedule. They are 4-11 overall and 0-3 in the Big Sky. Three of those four wins are against D-II teams: Dominican, Jessup and San Francisco State. Both Dominican and Jessup list the Sac State game as an exhibition game and do not count the game in their won-loss records. San Franicsco State is 2-12 overall and 1-7 in the CCAA. Presbyterian is a D-1 team with an 8-10 overall record and 1-2 in the Big South.

SF State is another California State Univeristies & Colleges school whose athletic program is on life support. Their website lists only four men's sports: basketball, cross-country, track & field, and wrestling.
  • Dropping Equestrian and elevating STUNT
I'm sure shells/boats are expensive and that tranpsorting them is also expensive, but seems to me that crew is popular enough on the west coast and would add enough numbers to the Title IX formula that it would be a better sport than stunt or field hockey.

All sports involve some judgment and some physical fitness, but I prefer the ones where the winner relies more on physical attributes which can (hopefully) be measured objestively rather than sports which are so reliant on the opinion of judges. The Olympic motto is "Faster, Higher, Stronger," not "Better in the opinion of some judges."

Having said that, gymnasts are some of the most physically fit athletes around, so what do I know?
  • Dropping Equestrian and elevating STUNT
I too have thought that the equestrian team was a unique part of UCD athletics. The program fits well with UCD's role as an agricultural college and home of a top veterinary school.

If a new sport is to be added I think crew would be a better choice than competitive cheerleading, er, stunt.
