  • Causeway Cup - 2025-2026
UCD defeated Sac in men's tennis this afternoon, 5-2. Ongoing Causeway score is now UCD 42.5, CSUS 5.

Next scheduled Causeway event is softball at the NorCal Kick-Off this coming THursday, February 5, in Davis.
  • Causeway Cup - 2025-2026
UCD finished first with 194.775 points in a four team gymnastics meet at Sac State last night. Sac was third with 194.125 points. (Western Michigan was second and Wisconsin-Whitewater fourth.)

Under the published guidelines for the Causeway Cup, "in women's gymnastics. The two 'home and home' meets shall be the only competitions that count toward the Causeway Cup." As a result I am not including the results of this event in the running Causeway score.

Next event is men's tennis on Saturday, January 31, in Davis.

I was born and raised in iowa. Indiana was known for basketball and swimming, Indiana football was the team you scheduled for homecoming.

...and two of those wins were apparently scheduled as "exhibitions."

    Yikes!
I just looked at Sac's men's basketball schedule. They are 4-11 overall and 0-3 in the Big Sky. Three of those four wins are against D-II teams: Dominican, Jessup and San Francisco State. Both Dominican and Jessup list the Sac State game as an exhibition game and do not count the game in their won-loss records. San Franicsco State is 2-12 overall and 1-7 in the CCAA. Presbyterian is a D-1 team with an 8-10 overall record and 1-2 in the Big South.

SF State is another California State Univeristies & Colleges school whose athletic program is on life support. Their website lists only four men's sports: basketball, cross-country, track & field, and wrestling.

I'm sure shells/boats are expensive and that tranpsorting them is also expensive, but seems to me that crew is popular enough on the west coast and would add enough numbers to the Title IX formula that it would be a better sport than stunt or field hockey.

All sports involve some judgment and some physical fitness, but I prefer the ones where the winner relies more on physical attributes which can (hopefully) be measured objestively rather than sports which are so reliant on the opinion of judges. The Olympic motto is "Faster, Higher, Stronger," not "Better in the opinion of some judges."

Having said that, gymnasts are some of the most physically fit athletes around, so what do I know?
  • Dropping Equestrian and elevating STUNT
I too have thought that the equestrian team was a unique part of UCD athletics. The program fits well with UCD's role as an agricultural college and home of a top veterinary school.

If a new sport is to be added I think crew would be a better choice than competitive cheerleading, er, stunt.

After a great amount of thought and conversations with my owners, handlers, trainers, groomers, ferriers, and veterinarians, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. This was not an easy decision and comes with great appreciation for the entire Aggie community, particularly my stablemate, Gunrock. That community has welcomed me, supported me and believed in me from the time I was a young colt. I will always carry wonderful memories of the Davis experience down whatever paths I may roam.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this chapter of my life.

    Happy trails to you,

    Buttermilk.

Must have dropped the "date to be determined" game against Lamar.

But they have that season finale rivalry game against Southern Utah.

Rolf Benirschke and Ken O'Brien each played in the Pro-Bowl in the 80s, though I think that on at least one occasion O'Brien made it as a substitute because someone aheaed of him did not play.

Too bad for the Slack schedule makers because the games would have been home games for Slack.

So much for “BCS independent playing an FBS schedule”: Of five opponents four are FCS teams, (and the date for the Lamar game is still “to be determined.”)

Leaving Sac State for Colorado may be an out of the frying pan and into the fire situation. Colorado's athletic department reported to be facing severe financial issues. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/big12/2025/12/02/colorado-athletics-budget-deficit-deion-sanders-colorado-football-contract-nil/87560914007/

…and of those four games only three have set a date. The fourth, Lamar, is still “TBA.”

All they need is the games.

Hard choices: Jackson has the advantage of currently coaching a team called the Hornets. Carter was apparently once a dancer for rapper MC Hammer.

Dr. Mike makes a good point; this thread has strayed from its original subject which was about Coach Marion's ("surprise!") departure for another position elsewhere. However I wanted to reply to Kadeezy's note about Dr. Wood's announcement regarding the addition of class sections. That is good news because after all is said and done the primary mission of schools in the UC and CSU systems is to educate.

I am sure the Sac State community can rely on what Dr. Wood has told them.
