Here are some photos from the game. The gallery is mis-identified because of a brain-freeze on my part. But it's still Cal Poly at UCD womens

Heidegger single-handedly kept the Gouchos in the game. I just took it on himself and was amazing. Wide open, guarded, popping up with incredible speed off a pass - he sank 'em all. Very impressive. I'm glad he was restrained in the first half!

Physical game, increasingly so as the half progressed. Go Ags

I haven't seen CSUN in action. They have an excellent coach who knows how to motivate and teach. I'm thinking the Ags will have to beat them twice to win conference.

I think the conference champ will have three losses. For the Ags getting a bye will be a Big Deal this year. The tournament in Anaheim will be fascinating this year.

  • MBB: Aggies (6-11, 0-1) @ Long Beach State (6-12, 1-1) 7 pm Thursday Jan 16th
There's a lot to like about Elijah Pepper. He's a terrific position rebounder and he's tough. Loose ball in his neighborhood? He'll be on the floor after it. And he's good with the ball around the hoop. So we have two really quality true freshmen.

But we really need some bigs who have hands and who can score. Somehow we can't find them.

Syncing audio and video can be tricky. On my Mac I use my web browser to capture the audio stream and then Audio Hijack to delay the stream to match the already delayed video feed. For the women, and KDVS, that is about 25 seconds when using ESPN3 or BigWest TV streams. For the men it's trickier because you're forced into using the (insert vile word here) syndication and often it's more delayed than the video (which takes effort). I may have to find a radio with a USB output and then capture that and sync that.

  • WBB: Aggies (4-6) at Pepperdine (5-3) 2 pm Thursday 12/19
In the early going there weren't many Ags under their offensive hoop to rebound. Lots of white Pepperdine jerseys (often 3) in the paint with no Ags. Not our best look. Improved over the course of the half. Stobbart has had a few blocks in the paint.
  • WBB: Aggies (4-5) @ Minnesota (8-1) 11 am PT Sunday 12/15
While it’s easy to look at the free throw differential the points off turnovers stat really tells the story. It was 19-14 at the end of the game but for much of the game it was 19-9! Just having it equal would have put the Ags in the lead for a noticeable duration of the game.

The Ags needed to play aggressive defense against the Gophers and it resulted in a lot of fouls. I didn’t see the game, only listed to Greg Wong’s call on KDVS. I’m proud of the way the Ags played. I hope they carry forward that intensity against Pepperdine. After watching the Ohio State @ Stanford women’s game I think perhaps blackjacks may be required!
  • WBB: Portland State (2-3) at UCD (2-4) 2 pm Saturday 11/30
The women looked pretty good tonight. They ran well, the forced turnovers and scored off of many of them. Hall was awesome. She seemed to be everywhere. The Ags really pulled ahead when Boston's three point shooting went cold. They'd been lights out in the first half, but defense on the perimeter took away uncontested shots until the 4th quarter when a few minutes of slack let Boston tie the game up. Then the Ags knuckled down (mr cliche here) and sprinted ahead. They could have quit but just motored through it. Aggie Pride at work! Makaila Sanders demonstrated some real ball handling chops.
  • 2019 WBB @ Montana St 11/9
Montana State was voted by coaches and media to be the #1 team in Big Sky. How the Ags fare against them will be a marker. Montana State puts a premium on defense. Will the Ags be able to shoot from the outside to open up the lane? We're not a big team and they're still blending. Should be an interesting contest.

Here are the game notes from Montana State

Game is going to be streamed on Big Sky TV on a device near you.

I'm liking this team. We didn't see Stobbart shoot from the outside at all during the exhibition games. I'm thinking she'll need to drain a few tonight.

I think the women are looking pretty good. This is a very different team than last year's. I can't say enough about Katie Toole who really knows how to deliver the ball to the basket in the paint.

I'm remembering that large round thingie with what were most definitely breasts on the outer periphery.
  • No men's basketball end of season "banquet"?
    ↪69aggie
I saw this and, yep, I'm nervous too. Berkeley is close and there are a lot more $$$ in the Pac 12 than here, maybe a factor of 2 or 3 at least in pay. I think Jen would have to seriously consider applying for the position.
  • No men's basketball end of season "banquet"?
Well, they're talking about something late summer/early autumn to welcome the new players. I guess since the team didn't go to the NCAA it was a "screw you".
  • Bertsch drafted by the Dallas Wings
The ESPN WNBA draft show may have been just about the worst. Seems like ESPN just doesn't do women's basketball very well.
