The NCAA production really sucks the personality out of the game. No on-field contests with Darius, no dance troupe, generic scoreboard graphics, no student section contests with Darius, no Davis-related announcements/presentations during the long timeouts- they didn’t even let Darius on the mic for the kid’s halftime run!

The camera work was much better than normal.

I think I will, regrettably, missing this one. I’m heading up around 9:30 this morning for football….not sure I can convince my wife to stick around to around 7:00 for basketball.

I read parts of a few articles but it didn’t seem real clear the purpose. I thought one article said that athletes were not bound if the coach left before they enrolled in classes. Again, wasn’t clear if they had to request a release and needed the school’s approval.

I believe the answer is that they are free to decommit. I can’t tell if they still need to request a release and that the college has to grant it, or if they are now just free to go. There’s so much change right now - I didn’t realize the NLI program is soon to be eliminated

I was talking to someone in the department last night who said attendance was looking like 6000-7000 unless there was a last minute surge or big walk up. Hopefully we’ll have at least 10k. AgAlum sent me a cowbell (you can buy them at the bookstore I found out last night), so we’re ready to roll!

Poly is a microcosm of modern college sports. Coach comes from Colorado Mesa - very good D2 program last year - and brings 4 of this players with him. 2 Sr's and 2 Gr's. Their roster is filled with transfers.

Had a conversation last night with Bob Dunning about the BIg West contenders. He was saying that UCSD is a program that is poised for real success due to the NIL collective that they have developed. That's one advantage of being a mid-major without football -> you can focus resources on basketball and try to get exposure through March Madness.

some were speculating last night that some of our low attendance for Saturday is due to kids not getting in for free (even though their tickets are cheap!). I heard something like 1/3 of season ticket folks did NOT buy their seats for Saturday.

Very weird game. Poly is very confident (cocky) as you could tell in their pregame. Then they come out and hit 3 3’s in 90 seconds and we can’t hit anything….9-2 was looking insurmountable! Thankfully they turned into a turnover machine and didn’t score (maybe got 1 shot?) in the next 6 minutes.

The 19 point run at the beginning on the second was impressive. Sevilla and Daugherty both looked like they wanted the shot and they sparked us. TY finally settled and it was a romp! If we hadn’t gotten a bit lazy on the glass (they seemed to be getting several offensive boards) it would have been even more.

I heard there was a little dust up in the handshake line? I was walking out when that must have happened. Poly was an attitude and you could see their frustration building.

until they built the practice field, it WAS on that side and led to a much more festive pregame. Easier to walk back and forth between TA tailgate and the rest of the groups. We’re isolated on the other side

I'm actually surprised we are favored, even by just a bit. we were something like 8 point favorites vs Norfolk and that didn't end well. Hopefully we get a decent turnout tonight.
