• Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
I'm pretty happy with 2-2. A lot of new faces, completely different scheme (especially the run game), good FBS team and three playoff type (maybe PSU was overhyped?) FCS team and our recent years of losing had me fearing an 0-4. We'll compete, but it's gonna be a challenge every week
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
I don't think there was s connection. Long passes were streaks past our CB isolated in man. I didn't see the long run ( all out run blitz exposing the next level?) punt return looked like we had him pinned down and runner made a great run ( and we may have missed a tackle or two) Weber had big plays vs cal so it wasn't too shocking. The fact that they bunched them like they did was a shock.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
a lot of young guys out there facing their first case of adversity, and we didn't handle it well. it was 10-3 and we punted them into a hole. great place to turn the field position, and be in a place where you can tie it up. 98 yard run? 17-3 and we got a little desperate. still its 17-3 with 4:00 to go in the half, one hold and regroup at the half. 84-yard punt return? yikes. a quick 3-and-out, a 54 yard pass and 17 yard TD pass...31-3. with them getting the 2nd half kickoff. at 17-3 their defense REALLY got aggressive. at 24-3 they were like the '86 bears blitzing poor Tony Eason play after play. Big Sky = Big Plays. that's been the story of the past couple weeks. i think we'll regroup and be okay. i thought if we could get ONE win on this road swing, this team was ahead of schedule. now we need a win on the home stand.

we'll lead the cheer of 'screw the sioux' for old time sake
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
weird to say if only..... when we lose 41-3 but that was what I was thinking. After the punt return, it was most over. When we couldn't get a point out of first and goal, it was done. We had -48 in sacks so we ran for 61 -> subpar but not totally anemic
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
no great insights. Thought they played well vs Portland. They were able to stick to game plan, toss in some wrinkles like I-formation and wildcat, and used careens and swings to keep defense off balance. Today we put ourselves in such a hole that they took away a lot of our game with tons of pressure. Move forward and learn from it
  • Big Sky 9/23
Lot of big plays from sac. Looks like they ran the ball well. Surprising result. One of many in the sky!
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
3 huge plays for TD's ?, inability to get a TD after first and goal within the 5, and a bad early INT-> RX for disaster vs a good team. Once it was 17 3 their D pinned back their ears and sent a ton of pressure. Weber is a better team. But not that much better. That long pass and the 98 yard run were killers. Somehow we have to get six points out of those first and goal posessions.
  • Any Given Saturday (Biggest FCS Message Board): "Is UC Davis Back?
our go-to is the plaza area there in front of Casa De Reyes (near Guadalajera) where they have the Mariachi bands and the mobile bar. Cheap, STRONG margaritas. after the SDSU game, the band was playing a mix of traditional Mariachi music and modern 'Gringo' music. Nothing like "Jailhouse Rock" in spanish with an accordian. and we were within walking (staggering) distance to our hotel! guessin' that is NOT a Fargo norm.
  • Any Given Saturday (Biggest FCS Message Board): "Is UC Davis Back?
game will be at the later part of September, so weather up there should still be decent. that being said, i'll be taking the U-San Diego trip earlier in that month. San Diego >> Fargo. I doubt i can find post-game margaritas in Fargo, like we enjoy in Old Town!
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
that's too bad about Layton. He was starting to look more comfortable and productive. I was afraid it was something serious (Achilles). Best of luck in his recovery.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
there was a big story in the East Bay Times (Mercury News in the south bay) about what's wrong with Stanford. running game issues was one thing. most of Love's yards are on big plays, so they haven't been able to do the old tried and true 'grind them down' offensive approach. they put that on the OL. funny that they mentioned 'time of possession' as an indicator that things are out of whack on the Farm! i think they had the ball for 18:00 against SDSU. that's crazy for a Stanford offense.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
Bryce Love has 524 yards in 3 games so running game is doing okay. He's the RB coach not QB coach or o coordinator

I just upgraded my flip to a smart phone so no smart tv yet. I have the Pluto app and will watch us again on it
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
i see that the game is on 'Pluto TV' again, so sounded like it will be televised on DirectTV or the like.
  • Post game discussion: UC Davis @ Portland St
i'm hoping some of the social media and highlights packages are going to be a job for a student intern, and they will start showing up when the students are on campus.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
the Young and Foster input is huge. I believe that their roles (at least Sam's) on the staff is to review the tape for upcoming opponents. so, they were scouting Weber last week, then adding any wrinkles from Saturday's game into their report. that means Hawk and staff have a detailed report created by two guys with a TON of experience at their disposal bright and early Sunday. That must really help in getting the final game plan prepared and implemented. Lucky to have them.
  • Big Sky?
i think Dan got confused about where our basketball team will be playing their post-season tournament!
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
last year's game was the beginning of the downward spiral. we were up 10-8 after the 1Q, then they outscored us 17-0 in the 2Q to lead 25-10 at the half. took the 2nd half kickoff and jam it down our throats in 2 minutes to go up 32-10. lots of folks left. midway through the 3Q we settle for a FG (on oft-typed phrase from the recent past), 32-13 heading to the fourth. 3 TD (one of KO return after their FG) and a 2-pt conversion and we're tied at 35 with 1:35 to go. we stop them, force a punt, we fumble, they kick a field goal....and...its a long drive back home. don't think the players recovered from that one.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
they had 430 yards of passing vs cal with several LONG plays (4 receivers had longs of 55, 52, 36, and 25). cantwell was only 57% but threw alot (and apparently DEEP). he had 60 rushing yards, of their 120 rushing yards. then turned around and seemed to struggle vs. Sac. even their 76-0 win over montana western wasn't statistically that impressive (montana had 4 interceptions). should be interesting.
