we’re considering this trip. Fly into Vegas, and take a few days to drive and explore the national parks. Downside is the heat in late August. Not much shade in Arches or Zion!

Connor has a tough time at Pepperdine (2-11) and that seems to be affecting his confidence. Including that game, he’s 7-25 the past 3. He was pretty high (around 42%) before the game vs the Waves

that was weird when the PA guy lost his mind trying to get the fans to make noise during the second free throw….especially since he started that by ‘reminding’ the band that they can’t play during a free throw.

Also thought it was kind of chickenshit to have the student section sitting right behind our bench.

I think the low assist numbers last night had alot to do with our inability to hit the open 3 and the roadrunners crashing the offensive boards - I can only recall one fast break basket.

I think one thing I take away from the OSU, Pepperdine and Bako games is that our starting lineup is too small and lets opponents get in that first punch. If Sevilla is struggling with his shot, his lack of size outweighs his contribution on the offensive end. I was a bit surprised we didn’t see Chappell when our bigs got in foul trouble, or even before that when Mani couldn’t contend with their front court.

We were shooting well below 20% from 3, and around 50% from the line for the bulk of the game. That hurts. Add in the 12 offensive boards in the first half, and that’s not a winning formula.

Uggh. Get a break and then throw away the inbounds.

Got it down to 3 then some big mistakes (Sevilla foul on desperation 3, bad possession). Back up to 7 with them shooting and and-one after a frustration foul by Leo (who landed hard and hurt himself)

Down 9 with 11 to go; not feeling it. TY is forced to force things. Offensive flow is terrible

Can’t knock down an open shot. Both Leo and Connor are struggling when we do have a shot. Ugly game. Roadrunners are so physical it makes for a frustrating game

Rebounds are 21-11, 14-2 on offensive boards. Killing us.

    Down 30-27 at the half

Poor Mani is just getting beat on the defensive end. 4 fouls and they seem to get a bunch of offensive rebounds when he’s out there.
  • MBB: UC Davis (8-5, 2-0) at CSU Bakersfield (6-8, 0-2), Thursday, Jan. 2 at 6:30 pm
They have NINE offensive rebounds which is keeping them close. They have twice as many shots as us. We’re shooting 63% and they are 16%.

We have to be better from the line. Leo just missed 2, Tamba missed 2 earlier

Fouls are starting to accumulate on both sides. Oddly officiated game so far. Guys are getting killed without a call, then something where no one seems to understand the call.

9-6 us 11:44 to go. Gonna be a lot of FTs

I swear we get a turnover on our first possession every game! Up 7-4 with 15 to go

Oh, i agree. WCC is an example of a solid basketball confernce and the NCAA top 20 for soccer is littered with schools without football. I think this article is really focused on FCS vs FBS, though.

but it does reflact the reality, especially when you compare FCS institutes to P4. our soccer budget is about 1/2 of UCLA. I think if you are playing FCS football, you don't have the revenue streams to budget your other sports at the same levels as FBS schools.

Just to amplify that.......zero Big Sky players were drafted last year. The MVFC had 2. In the past few seasons, the high was 2 drafted in 2022 (both from Montana State). from 2022-2024, about 20 guys a year get a camp invite.

I came across this on Linkedin from Mike Lorenzen, who used to run the EVO program for athletics. Pretty dense read, but a ton of information on considerations of moving up. Interesting how some of the examples seem to target Davis (like moving from a 10000 stadium to 15000, or moving to FBS for all sports except football). i gave it a quick read but will go back into it in more detail later.

kids can get picked up anytime; it’s just a deadline for declaring yourself in the portal. I think we got payers last year well after spring/winter ball.

There’s another portal window in the spring, 4/16-4/25. I guess for players who see their future playing time limits based on spring practices.

only negative stat is FT% (63%). TY was still a little off (6-10) and Tamba continues his struggles (0-3). Both guys get to the line - need to knock them down
