I could see that. I wonder if he would ever take the Stanford job. As a Cal alum, I'm not sure he would want to have all the recruiting restrictions while coaching a rival and having to actual recruit players who can go to class. I honestly only see Taylor going to Cal, maybe a current P12 team and that's really it. If he doesn't leave I don't see the Aggies beating Sac State in the next two or three years. But Hawk is still a good coach.
  • Week 4: Big Sky Schedule and Scores
Cal is 3-1 and recently extended Wilcox. Any chance he would leave for a non Cal P5 school or even G5? We all know he'd take the Cal job in heartbeat but Cal's hot start has pretty mch removed all pressure on Wilcox speaking as a fan of both schools.
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
It may be true but remember that Oregon vs UW is a huge rivalry that eclipses the Civil War with OSU and the Apple Cup with Washington State,
  • Best & Notable West & Midwest FCS Stadiums
No love for the high school, don't trip and fall bleachers at Hornet Stadium? Nothing says low budget like Sac State.
  • USD Fans
Thank you. Makes perfect sense. I'm glad I live near a conference foe and a further day trip to EWU. I'm jealous of all of you in Yolo County so I'll take what I can get. My K aged son is a Cougs fan...I figure if no point in trying hard for UCD since we don't do legacies and it's crazy expensive OOS. Otherwise UCD would be on the future 10+ year plan.

Crazy to think USD actually has passionate fans in a sport other than basketball.
  • USD Fans
What is wrong about sitting in the premium hometown section? You would think fans would feel safer there than in the nosebleeds or in regular areas (grass GA doesnt count because you can move). Can you share more about what is considered appropriate? For baseball I clap politely but I never stand and cheer (but you also can't win on walkoffs away). I've been to a few road baseball games but those are different. For football I've only been to Sac State away and on the Davis side where there are mostly UCD fans.

The concept of away ettiquette is really interesting to me. Obviously never boo the home team. But what else? I'm attending Cal @Wazzu (although Pullman is so friendly) in two wks and UC Davis @ Idaho in Nov so I want to know more.
  • Record attendance tonight (students and total)
2008 Causeway was a sellout so I watched on top on the trash bins with a friend outside the south entrance for the first half and then a couple gave us their tickets when they left at halftime. I wonder if they did anything like that recently.
  • Week 3: San Diego (1-1) @ UC Davis (0-2)
Can't say for now but when I was a student the only cheers the students did were the standard "go! ..... (team name on other side of stadium)!" chant that you see at every stadium, the Bossy Cow Cow (if you attend games), and Aggie Fight.
  • Week 3: San Diego (1-1) @ UC Davis (0-2)
The Gould era had no marketing and the admin did very little to encourage students to show up. They started doing running of the freshman a few years back and that was big. I think last year or a year ago they either did a transfer student run or a senior day run. Both are important too. You know I'm a Cal fan and when I first transfered to school I didn't really care about the Ags at all. My christian fellowship is and still was led by a former yell leader at Toomey by the name of Will so he always brings a big group to the first home game after classes start. I only went because of that. But that was the "Hail Bakari" game and as a result I started getting into UC Davis sports (particularly FB, Both BB, and the diamond sports). I still support Cal and attended games there when the Ags were away, but I would make a priority to attend 3-4 Aggies games each year and never miss any Causeway or home CP gm).

Sorry to ramble but it's really important to bring students in, esp new freshman or transfers because they can build a foundation for student support. If a student cares, they will invite friends who come because they can hang with their friend. Ditto for basketball, although it is an easier sport to understand if not familiar with American football.
  • Week 3: Big Sky Schedule and Scores
Sac State is going to destroy CSU next week. Remember when PSU was really bad 2-3 years or so ago or Washington State 10 years ago when coached by Aggie alum, Wulff...yes Colorado State is really bad. I went to that game yesterday in Pullman and man the coaching and talent is lacking on that roster.
  • Record attendance tonight (students and total)
What is the capacity of the stadium? I thought 11k was the max? How much including the grass? Probably not the best idea to have Weber be the game with the students since Weber is looking really good.
  • Week 3: San Diego (1-1) @ UC Davis (0-2)
How's the weather at the game?
  • Week 3: San Diego (1-1) @ UC Davis (0-2)
But Pio is non schollie and they can get players who are willing to have academic scholarships to play football in sunny San Diego (and their basketball teams are WCC too).
I think USD would rather give discounts for non athletic scholarships and add more men and more diversity to their school. Even though they have to travel, it's still cheaper than competing in the Big Sky or possibly the WAC. They have a good team but don't need to spend funds they don't have for FB scholarships.
  • Week 3: San Diego (1-1) @ UC Davis (0-2)
Is this the freshman run game? Or is that next week vs Weber?
  • Week 2: UC Davis (0-1) @ South Dakota State (0-1)
Yep, East River of SD (east side of state where USD and SDSU are) roots for Minnesota teams and West River (esp in the Rapid City area) cheers for Denver/Colorado teams.
  • Week 2: UC Davis (0-1) @ South Dakota State (0-1)
SDSU wins by ten but a close game. They then beat USD.
  • Week 1 Big Sky Scores
I can't decide if Idaho is better than expected or is WSU is worse.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
$45 to park is not surprising but that there is a place to park at all.
Memorial has practically no parking and the only lot I can think of (as someone who supports both teams) is the VIP lot and where the visitors park their 2-3 busses.
  • UPDATE FUTURE SCHEDULES, PLEASE
One thing I found interesting is that the series with Commerce is that last month it was announced they will play Sac away/home right after the games with the Aggies in opposite order of our series. So Ags play at TXAMC and home the next year. Sac is home vs TXAMC and road the next year. Each game a week after us.
Sounds like there must be a local connection somewhere? Or maybe they really want to recruit in NorCal? Any guesses.
  • Ags Picked 5th in Perseason Coaches and Media Polls
The schedule this year is pretty daunting though...esp for the first haf of the season so 5th makes sense.
