The city owns it; it looks like the parent company of the Timbers operates it though. So you'd think/hope the city would figure out a way to have PSU stay there but I guess the actual operator has no such preference and apparently the city doesn't care enough to force it.

Providence Park is where they should be, but they have not been good enough to draw crowds large enough to fend off the Timbers taking over and they can't afford the rent now even if they could work around the soccer schedule.

I'm not so worried about the players; the Davis players will be more heat-adjusted than the PSU players. Just another reason I'm not particularly interested in attending in person.

May be hotter. 97 for their home opener last year. Only a touch cooler than Davis during summer heat waves, which can extend into early September.

I'm probably going to be in Portland but I don't think I can justify trekking out to Hillsboro to watch this game on the high school field in the heat. It's a shame they don't play downtown at Providence Park anymore.

Hard to imagine how a real journalist writes up that math without noting the obvious problems. They will get what, best case scenario, maybe $3 million in guarantee money per season? That will be largely eaten up by paying for their own travel and paying for opposing travel. So again, where is the $23 million coming from?

Stanford won two Rose Bowls and one Orange Bowl. Cal had first and goal to beat one of the best teams this century, on their turf, in 2004. They never got over that hump but they were right there that day.

Agreed at the moment Cal and Stanford have more in common with Duke and Virgina than Ohio State or Alabama. Just noting that in the recent past, they have had football teams that have been competitive with the best teams in the country. No reason to think they will be able to repeat that soon, but it did happen.

All fine points, but Cal and Stanford have both had top 5 teams in this century that could have won national championships if a few different things broke their way. No guarantee they will get back there anytime soon, but it did happen.

Is the Board of Trustees ever going to engage in any oversight here? They support all this?

If NDSU is indeed paying $17 million on top of all the investment needed to upgrade the program to compete, I assume it wasn’t really a live question for us. We can’t do that now.
