my wife an I will be at the game. Was going to check into tailgating with AST members but don’t know if any are going. I had to pay double face value to get decent tickets online. May stop by regardless and maybe PM you later.
  • Week 3: Lehigh @ UC Davis
Hi Howard and welcome! I have not heard Dick Lewis’ name in quite some time. He cracked my back once when I got some back spasms pitching. I was on the team 77and78. Most of the time I rode the bench and the only medical danger was choking on a sub sandwich between double header games from the local sub shop (forgot the name). Rich Martini was on the baseball team. Saw the games you referred to as a member of the Band-uh. Those were the days when we expected to win most every game in football and as you say good to see things turning around.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
While preparing for our trip to Fargo and parts north to watch the Aggies take on the Bizzzzzon, I wanted to bring along some traditionals and other pieces done by the (real) Aggie Band-uh to get me in the spirit. I was going to rip them from the album (yes folks...LP) I have but someone has them up on a generic archive site. You can download them from the link below.

    First Album Here
  • FCS Games of Note: Week 3
I plan on checking out Eastern Washington vs Jacksonville State. Eastern not as intimidating when not on their awful red turf and Jacksonville a playoff team the past couple years

Weber vs. UNR could be interesting.
  • FCS Games of Note: Week 2
I think it helped that USD was the best team in their league and in the playoffs the last 3 years. They also won 2 first round games the first 2 years fairly easily. They did get dispatched first round last year and the Ags did have an easier time with them last year after being nearly tied mid-game.
  • Week 3: Lehigh @ UC Davis
wow. I guess it was really that long ago. I remover that game with Bill Fleming and Ara Parseghian doing the game for ABC. I was in the Band-uh. Phil Swimly noted correctly that the line of scrimmage won it for the (then) Engineers.
  • FCS Games of Note: Week 2
Very strange to see the SanDiego State and Weber scores after their 6-0 baseball score the previous week. I watched the Weber-Poly game. Josh Davis was the difference maker. He really diced up the Poly D. Weber’s QB Constantine (all I can think of are thermocouples with that name) was injured.
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
my thoughts exactly, I.e., no penetration and no pressure on QB. I will say that USD had an excellent game plan. They really spread things out. It seems at times the D was a bit confused on how to react to different and shifting formations. I know in one play, there were 3 stacked receivers- and maybe 1 more split left, and there were n-1 defenders in that side of the field. Big play as a result.

Also thought Maier was very accurate and effective. Yes, 2 ints. Preece really stepped up and good to see Harrel with 8 receptions. Crawford becoming a go to guy too.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
The disappointing aspect of taking down the whole band-uh is that all bandsmen are penalized due to the actions (real or perceived) of alleged bad actors, with most of the alleged actions taken place off-campus at parties that are not official band-uh function (at least from what I have seen). As Fugawe09 has said - some of what allegedly happened is not tradition, and I am not defending any of that.

Does anyone really believe that changing the name of the band-uh and wearing new uniforms will change any perceived issues? Will a pear become an apple simply because you call it an apple. Add that to a unscientifically designed evaluation survey with a control or contrast group is pretty embarrassing for a University that supposedly prides itself in academics. Alas it seems to be convenient fodder to supply to sycophants (i.e., California Aggie and Sacramento Bee) to reverse engineer a desired outcome. Mark Twain said “never get in a argument with someone who buys ink by the barrel”.

It will be interesting to see what will transpire during the first home game. I suggest that the section normally occupied by the band-uh, be left empty with a sign proclaiming “This space intentionally left blank – RIP Cal Aggie Band-uh”. There will be no “Aggie Fight” after Aggie TDs, no “hot time” at turnovers - no alma mater to sing – no pregame show. When I was in the band, the band-uh was essentially the entire rooting section at away games – what now? The band-uh was famous for being loyal and spreading Aggie Spirit and Pride. The administration has essentially killed that – throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I guess the goal of the administration is to have a generic, high-school-type band dressed in polyester pajamas march corp-style like 90% of the other bands now.
  • FCS Games of Note: Week 2
Looks like both the Ags and Poly could use some defensive help. Weber 24-10 early in third quarter.
  • FCS Games of Note: Week 2
Weber comes back with 2 TDS. Have found a little offense. There defense, by in large is pretty stout. Good game.
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
yah. Humboldt band made the Aggie Band look tame. Their women were beyond the pale. Kind of ironic.
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
Interesting that poly can’t run but can pass against Weber.
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
USD obviously up for this one and they played a hell of a game. Give them credit. Just shows how unpredictable college football can be when you are dealing with 18-21 year olds. Exception is BYU. You can add 2 years of age there.
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
I think USD played better to some extent today. USD defense isn’t exactly stellar.
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
Dayton -a lower tear pioneer team beat Indiana state of MVFC
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
Head coach Dale Lindsey said it was a fumble and kind of got on his back for being to cute with the ball. He is a very straight shooter.
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
D played better last week regardless. Aggie D needs to be able to stop running game especially in second half. Either lack of depth or just get tired.

Explosive offense only reason Ags won. Is Bland out all season?
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
    Which LBs are injured?
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
Reminds me of Idaho state game (element of luck) although it wasn’t really an ag comeback.

Need to clean up turnovers and work on defense.
