• May sits on Boards
Fugawe09 I disagree with almost everything in your post. When LK became chancellor she was academically the best chancellor UCD ever had. Great personal history, great academic achiever, Nat'l Academy of Engineering, woman's stem leader and on and on. And, by the way she is not in a "protected class"- where did you come up with that? She hired Hexter who in turn has hired some of the best faculty in UC Davis history. UC Davis ratings were never higher and are still highest in history. Pepper Spray: it was on her watch and so she owns it, but she had nothing to do with it. What she did afterward was right on. The police chief who DID OWN the incident was fired and wwe moved on. The whole PR/email scrubbing thing was probably not real smart, but all universities and big corporations do it. Look what berkeley did with its own Dirks. Almost $400,000 spent to clear the "great name" OF UC Berkeley lost on his watch. For what? Oh, just a $1,500,000 deficit and a horrendous sexual harassment situation over the past few years. What LK DID WAS NOT even close in the dollars spent by Berkeley. Her problem was this: the bee hated her and the bee had some very disgruntled employees at UCD that were providing info to the bee. In other words, she had enemies and that would become her downfall. Yes, the sacramento bee took LK down. Why? Funny accent? Uppity female? No, She was just not moving fast enough on what the bee really, really wants from UCD: a downtown presence in sacramento. Just look at the last editorials from the bee basically saying we will leave MAY alone on his board sitting IF WE GET UC DAVIS IN DOWNTOWN SAC! The bee wants a "satillite UC CAMPUS in the downtown"! 12 miles from Davis! Ridiculous! Never will happen. Chancellor May be very careful, you might be next to go!
  • May sits on Boards
This puts the sac bee in a very diffficult position. Having pushed out LK for tthe same reasons what do they do now? Admit that this is not a real problem (probably the case) or go after May/? The bee will do nothing because it knows it was wrong to go after LK and it wants a lot from May: see sac town UC DAVIs classrooms! What a joke.
  • MBB: Long Beach State (13-17 & 6-8) @ the Aggies (17-11 & 9-4) ESPN Game
Yes, I worry that LBS, Fullerton, CSUN and to some extent cal poly can use their easy transfer rules to just outpace all the UCs in this league. Monsan is just an extreme example of how these schools can manipulate the NCAA rules and get new players. Got to offer a superior education to meet this threat, but in D1 basketball will this even matter? Lack of SoCal location also an issue, but Gonzaga is an inspiration for all of us.
  • Napolitano selects Gary May as her choice for UCD Chancellor
Yes, Hexter was doomed for his ties to katehi for no valid reasons as he was hired way after the damming pepper spray event occurred. Yet, some faculty and some strtudents would always try and shove this into his face when ever they could. He would be great to keep on as provost, but history has it that all new chancellors do hire their own. For whatever reason. Maybe Gary different? We will se, but don't keep your hopes up on that one. As to reputation? May has already helped us a lot just because of his stature and his own reputation. My bet is that he will spend a lot of time in Silicon Valley where they need all the diversity and STEM help he can give. They will loved him!!
  • Napolitano selects Gary May as her choice for UCD Chancellor
I am sad that Hexter did not get the job. He is such a great man and talent and I hope he stays on. But, May looks like a real catch. Even a bit charismatic, but way too soon for that observation. SF Chron giving the story legs as Silicon V. folks would love to have a real STEM man in such a highly visible UC position. Look for Sac Bee to try and pounce on him early for: MUch more UCD presence in Sac downtown (yes, undergrads please)! UCD Classrooms in downtown Sac! New Schools like Pulbilc Health, downtown Sac! World Food Ctr. Downtown Sac! He needs to be well prepared for this nonsensical BS.
  • ESPNU Returns to The Pavilion on 2/25 v. LBSU
Why isn't ICA in control of the pavilion? Seems strange. Who else plays there?
  • Coach Gould
Wish the best for the gould family. They were great friends and great at what they did. Just did not work out. Move on with pride.
  • MBB: Aggies (11-8 & 3-1) @ Hawai'i (8-9 & 2-2)
Can't recall his name but Ham had a kid in his last year who was virtually unstoppable in the paint. He was physical to the max. I believe he quit the team when Ham was fired. Again, though DII is not DI.
  • The Search for a New Chancellor
Next regents meeting march 16. Obviously JN is in no rush, but 8 months without a chancellor? Wow! Still think Hexter is a lock for the position and may be why JN is in no rush. He is a steady hand on the wheel. He handled the speaker protest very well.
  • MBB: UC Irvine (13-10 & 6-1) @ the Aggies (12-8 & 4-1)
A strong best effort on defense could make the difference againstUCI
  • 2017 Recruiting
2 three stars? Have we ever had 2 three stars before? Maybe 1 Denham and he was a total bust; but never 2. Who are these guys?
  • WBB: UC Riverside (10-8 & 4-1) @ the Aggies (13-6 & 4-2)
Offensive boards are alittle hard to deal with. If you are inside your player with back to the basket as you should be and the opposition throws up a bad shot (as did the highlanders tonight a lot lof times) then you are not going to get that rebound because its going over your head. That said, need to get better. l loved to see how Kourtney managed the team and she's only a sophomore. Gianotti is a beast!!
  • The Search for a New Chancellor
Did not happen! Why, if there were 3 finalists, didn't the regents make the appointment?
Maybe some issues we don't know about. Then, if Hexter is doing a good job, why rush it?
  • MBB: Aggies (11-8 & 3-1) @ Hawai'i (8-9 & 2-2)
Hate to quote the new micheal Lewis book again (the undoing project) but he states that the new "algorithm" for NBA bigs is not height but effective length. Looks like chima fits that mold. Also, I love Morgan, but she needs some meat on those bones. Maybe chima and Morgan do some workouts together and then a big lunch! They are such great kids!
  • The Search for a New Chancellor
Next regents meeting is this Thursday. IMHO announcement of new chancellor will be made at this meeting. It looks like Ralph Hexter will be our next chancellor- but there could be a surprise. I hope JN is there to make the announcement and I hope she makes a swift recovery.
  • The Search for a New Chancellor
Movie. According to the davis enterprise today Hexter is way ahead heading into the back stretch,
  • Bob Hamilton
Wow toke69! You were in my class! Great to have you. I have family on the islands too.
  • Cal Fires Dykes
ROYA I mostly agree with you, but the point of my post was to compare the issues that we have with our program with those at cal; i.e. The need for lights at dobbins or covered batting cages vrs. How to deal with what is one of the largest deficits in college athletics at cal. In other words we are blessed with the smallness of our problems. Lastly I don't think there is any "hatred" towards cal (my proud cal grad wife would not approve!) just a mixture of envy and competitive spirit. Everyone is aware that cal lifts the entire UC system.
  • WBB: Long Beach State (10-6, 2-0) @ the Aggies (11-4, 2-0)
Well watching the ladies game and seeing multiply layups miss and the same with threes that have not happened much this year. I think we all simply saw an example of "regression to the mean" in a sports contest. At the end of the first half after seeing the 6th or 7th missed shot from with in the paint I just knew this game could not be won by the Aggies. No coaching and no new strategy would have made any difference at all. You can only fix this by fixing the mean and that would be better players on our team or, to be fair, more mature an d experienced players which we will have as the season progresses and next year. You might like to read Michael Lewis' (Moneyball, etc.) fascinating new book: The Undoing Project. Two Israeli psychologists delve into how humans make decisions: i.e. "don't ever trust your gut instinct" and why Israeli fighter pilots and army are so good. His best book ever IMHO.

Where is Teresa Gould now? I thought she was great. Hope she lands in a good place. Anyone know where?
