• 2019 Recruiting List

There have been so many successful 6’ QBs that it’s hard to believe it’s much of a disability.

Eastern Washington’s QB is 6’ for example, as is Jake Maier
  • 2019 Recruiting List
We’re well stocked with smallish QBs who have put up great numbers in high school. Our other QB commit put up over 3000 yards in his first year after transferring schools as a junior, but missed three games after injury this year. Two approx 6ft mobile QBs added in last year’s recruiting class, So that’s four mobile slingers.
So let those guys compete and see who rises to the top

oh, meant Gunnor Faulk, corrected post
  • FCS Playoffs Round 2: UNI @ UC Davis
Coaches always focus on their teams failures in postgame interviews and the other teams strength pregame, coaches are smart guys they know the press conference playbook
  • 2019 Recruiting List
They have had Carson Crawford throw some passes including that key one against Montana. Tompkins video shows he can make some passes on the run so he might be good on those half back pass type of plays.
At QB he’ll have to compete with similar size Gunnor Faulk and Hunter Rodriquez among others

So it seems he’s been a high profile prospect that just didn’t get any taller in high school. Here is a profile from four years ago when he was already 5’11” He was training with nationally known QB coaches that long ago.

Agree about TT but also see why the coaches love Gilliam. We would have scored at end of first half if we had enough time on the clock to run. It’s hard to pass into the end zone from the 2.

Great job keeping track of all this activity. I noticed last year that we almost never lose a player on your list to an FCS school, and that seems to be the case so far.
  • FCS Playoffs Round 2: UNI @ UC Davis

It seems Farley needs to find a version of Plough. If the complaint is that their play calling is too predictable and seemed to get better when McCann called the plays either make McCann the OC or find some young guy with a more contemporary offensive approach.
  • FCS Playoffs Round 2: UNI @ UC Davis
We could use some improvement on the defensive line. But even there its not so much a size issue as just being better.
  • FCS Playoffs Round 2: UNI @ UC Davis
we need the kind of physical play (size?) on the line that UNI has[/quote]
UN's most imposing unit is their offensive line.
However the size difference between their OL and ours is not that much. Using the list for offensive linemen in the game notes we find that their average offensive linemen is
    6' 5.5" 296lb and our is 6'4.3" 294lb.

I think that since Amoah, Lamson, Pettek, Parks and Richardson are all lower classmen they'll all gain some weight and strength almost without trying
But it is interesting that UNI seems to have a minimum height for offensive linemen of 6'4', even their other roster OL linemen are tall

A lot of teams are doing two tight end stuff and not just for power running, I read an interview from last year that UNI sometimes goes from two tight ends to 4 wide receiver sets with the same personnel, and U Washington uses a lot of two tight end.

Excellent article on official website about our defense by Bruce Gallaudet
About our multitude of linebackers. I didn’t know that Moe came here as a DB

Right. If you build up the opponent pregame you soften the impact if you lose and gain more credit when you win.
After the game, saying the opponent was really good sounds like an excuse, so coaches focus on their team’s mistakes.
  • FCS Playoffs Round 2: UNI @ UC Davis
I agree the UNI coach seems like a class guy.
However, opposing coaches are often more complementary pregame than post-game. Montana made us seem pretty tough pregame
  • Sears OUT at Sac State
I’ve got the impression through the years, maybe wrongly, that to the Bee Sac State is the more local team and we’re from out of town. They don’t cover either team well but I think Sac gets more or equal coverage even when they are less newsworthy.
  • FCS Playoffs Round 2: UNI @ UC Davis
They got a senior linebacker back for Lamar and have their all conference first team corner warmed up last week so I’d count on him playing. He missed several games with a sprained ankle.
Impressive that they have three shutouts in an era where good defense is giving up less than 20 or 25 points
  • Sears OUT at Sac State
    Probably not simple.
But at the end of the day I think this town is too small for the two of us, They moved to the Big Sky to get some space from us, but we followed them there. I bet they weren’t happy about that and they shouldn’t have been. Competing head to head with us is pretty hard for them in the long run.
  • FCS Playoffs Round 2: UNI @ UC Davis
Article on game. Mostly drawn from UNI press conference. Key info is their first team all conference cornerback missed games with ankle sprain, warmed up last week but didn’t play, so I would expect he will play. McCann is calling their plays as OC is out do to father’s death.
Elsewhere I saw that one of their linebackers has two pick sixes this year and four for his career. Duncan Ferch

  • Sears OUT at Sac State
The idea that Sac being good along with Davis is good for Davis is appealing because we hate to wish anyone ill. However the facts are that we compete with them in the same market. Not for players except in rare occasions, but for radio tv and print coverage, miniscual as coverage of what are still deemed “small college sports” is. Add that to the Bee’s seeming adoption of them as the local school makes them an impediment to us getting press coverage. In this case we are competing for slices from a relatively fixed size pie.
