Thanks CMT. I forgot about the play-in teams. Same logic applies since we haven't played the Roadrunners before either. Maybe worse, since it's been 13 years since we last played them. Series record is 11-29 for what it's worth. I recall seeing one of the losses back in spring 1974. More recently, they eliminated Cal in the NIT in 2017 and dominated the WAC the 5 years prior to 2020.

I think we all anticipated a split. I think this means that we'll face UCR in the second round. That's too bad in that I believe that the Aggies have an advantage from playing a team earlier in the season due to Coach Les' ability to make adjustments (as was in evidence today). UCSB is going to be a tough out for anyone.

Does anyone know who will televise the Big West playoffs? Will it be on BigWestTV or one of the networks?

Not sure what the Aggies are doing on the boards to eliminate the huge advantage that Hawaiii had yesterday, but I sure hope it keeps on working. Odd stat: Hawaii had no assists in the first half. Their 3 point shooting has also cooled off, but is now around their season average, but the UCD perimeter defense is a whole lot better too.
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ Idaho
This bodes very well for the whole season. Ags visiting a team ranked #19 at theiir place in front of live fans and they win in convincing fashion.

    That was almost too easy.

Ags need to just run the ball down the Vandals throats, try to run out the clock.
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ Idaho
Defense is playing a lot better now

Good idea to play Larison. Being from Idaho he certainly has friends and family there and he wants to make an impression by running hard.

I'm really impressed with Rodrigues' accuracy. I can only recall one pass where he was off the mark and it looked almost like he was throwing it away.

Wish they had replayed that call on the incompletion.

Lucky that the time outs that Hawkins called didn'[t come back to bite them. I thought they were a mistake.

A really good TD throw, Rodrigues threaded the needle on a deep throw. Glad to hear that the kicker is from my alma mater, American River College.

Right, so much for defense. I think I saw 3 missed tackles on that TD run by Idaho.

Just tuned in on Big Sky. Looks like a defensive struggle.

As with Friday's game, this one has been rescheduled for 4 pm. It is doubtful that Hawai`i will be as accurate from 3 point range, but it is equally likely that they will again dominate the boards. From what I saw, the Warriors big men were much more aggressive and athletic in being able to out-jump and out position the Ag front court. That kind of difference is pretty consistent. If UC Davis is to win, they will have to play solid defense on the perimeter and shoot the ball better, especially at close range. They can move into the fourth seed with a win or fall into the sixth seed with a loss.

Final rebounding stats: Hawai`i 42, UCD 22. There were other important differences, but I think this is where the Aggies lost the game. I agree with BlueGoldAg that the guys missed too many easy shots. In a game that was this close, every little thing makes a difference, but those rebounds...

I've noticed the last few games that Manjon seems to have lost his touch, especially on his lay-ups. I wonder if he an injury to his hand. Hawaii is doing better at every phase of the game, so the Aggies need to switch that around if they are to win.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser had a brief write-up about the games. It was very objective and explained how the seedings for the Big West work in simple terms. Hawai`i, having played a full schedule will have a harder time changing its winning percentage even if they sweep, but that--of course--is what they are going to try to do to give themselves the best seeding possible. If they do, they will move past UC Davis since they will be 10-8. A split would keep them below, so they have a bit more pressure to win 2.I think the Ags will wind up with the third seed if they sweep no matter what else happens, but I only gave it a cursory look.
