Bob takes the Aggies by 35:

AGGIES over CAL POLY … The Mustangs versus the Mustangs. One of the best rivalries in the Big Sky, but no contest this time around.
Take the University Farm by 35.

It's always so interesting to listen to Hawk...ever the philosopher...talking about the bigger picture than just the wins and loses. He knows that the game means so much more to the team and the players in the long run than the final score. We're lucky to have him and the players a fortunate to have a mentor like him.

I'm also always so impressed with how smart, articulate and humble the Aggie players are. We really do have a program that is truly about high character, student athletes. It makes it so easy to be an Aggie fan.

It looks like the Sac receiver was out of bounds on this critical 4th and 4 pass that lead to Sac scoring the tying TD.

  • Week 8: Aggies (2-4) at Northern Colorado (2-5)
    Post-game comments from Hawkins:

“Our guys are getting some momentum and a win like this helps build confidence,” said Aggie head coach Dan Hawkins.

“We’re stringing some games together of not having any turnovers, and that makes a big difference. It’s nice to hold someone to 10 points on defense and still, like, you can do better.”

“We’re starting to play our best. We know we played some tough games early on, but now we’re having some success. We just have to keep our oars in the water.”

I agree. Losing Johnson was tough for Montana on a cheap, targeting shot to the head. The Sac defensive line had Johnson stood up and he was going down. Adeoye, who played 4 years at Texas, hesitated and then lowered his head and launched with the crown of his helmet right up into Johnson's chin and face mask. It was a dangerous hit.

The big pass play down to the 2 yard line that set up the TD to tie the game was questionable if the Sac receiver was in bounds. It looked like his foot his the line but the replay angles weren't good enough to overturn the play. Regardless, it was an incredible catch by the Sac receiver.

I watched the whole game and here are a few of my thoughts about Sac. Troy Taylor has done a remarkable job turning Sac into a national power in just 2 years. I don't think I've ever seen a coach turn a program around in such a short time.

    1. Their play calling is excellent overall. The onside kick was brilliant and it started their rally late in the game.
    2. They have lots of speed and are very athletic overall.
    3. Their defense is very aggressive with fast, tough linebackers and defensive backs. They swarm to the ball and make punishing hits and they blitz a lot.
    4. RB Skattebo is a beast. It's practically impossible to stop him in his tracks. He has deceptive moves for his size and he runs over defenders. He always get yardage after after being hit and often carries defenders with him.
    5. QB Jake Dunniway makes some great throws and he threw for 3 TD's but he was only 19-36 for 284 and had 2 interceptions.

Sac wins 31-24 in OT. Sac is 7-0 for the first time in history.

It was. Caught Montana completely by surprise. The entire front line of their kickoff return team starting falling back to set up for the return and Sac recovered the ball easily. Great call by Troy Taylor.

Tied at 24 with 3:39 to go in the 4th.
  • Week 8: Big Sky Schedule and Scores
The Sac player who knocked Johnson out of the game was ejected for targeting. Looked like a cheap shot to me.
  • Week 8: Aggies (2-4) at Northern Colorado (2-5)
Sac and the Aggies both beat UNC by 48 points: Sac won 55-7 and the Ags won 58-10. So I was curious to see how the game stats compared and the stat that stood out to me was the total yards:

    Ags: 484 UNC 423
    Sac: 622 UNC 175

First time since November of last year. Only team in the FBS and FCS not to trail in a game this season until now.

I listened to Scott Marsh interview Coach Les at halftime today on the radio broadcast of the UNC game. He said Beasley and DeBruhl were both doing a good job at PG. He also mentioned that Anigwe has really stepped up his game on both offense and defense after playing last year with a nagging injury most of the season. He said that Pepper has gotten even better after getting stronger and leaner in the off season. Les feels like he was able to recruit from the transfer portal to add the depth that we were missing last season.

Thanks. I think Les did a nice job of bringing in some talented players this year.

  • Week 8: Aggies (2-4) at Northern Colorado (2-5)
Bob Dunning takes the Ags by 28:

AGGIES over NORTHERN COLORADO … After a tough five-game stretch to start the season, UC Davis finally found its footing last Saturday against Northern Arizona. Now they take on another Big Sky “Northern” from Greeley, but the result will be the same. Look out folks, there’s an Aggie freight train roaring through town. Takes the Ags by 28.
