  • Team Nigeria, with Chima Moneke, stuns USA!
So I'll be a little contrarian here. Since 1992, the USA has won every Olympic gold medal except for 2004. Talent is of course spreading out, as evidence by the fact that NIGERIA started 5 guys with NBA experience, but the US is still the dominant team. Now I didn't see either of the Nigeria or Australia games, so I can't say exactly how/why the US lost. But I do know they've had only a couple of practices (because most of the players were in the playoffs until recently). No matter how good your individuals are, it takes court time to really start to play well together. That's why they play these exhibitions, to see who can play with whom. I am currently watching the US vs Argentina (ranked #4 in the world) and I don't see guys who are being out worked or in it just to cruise. Are other teams hungrier than the US??? Maybe they are hungrier to win an exhibition game in Las Vegas, but I guess we'll see when the Olympics actually start.

I’ve been looking for a box score to see how Chima did but no luck. I did see that tweet about his defense. Good day for former BW players.

nice gets for the Ags. EWU had a good run last year, though I think they lost their two best players to the portal.

Just checked the 21-22 roster and it looks like Hogland is no longer in the program. He wasn’t healthy enough to make an impact last year.

I guess if I was Gonzaga I’d think the same way. It’s just an unfortunate byproduct of the current system

If I remember the story correctly, the Black Bear founder worked at the Davis location when he was in school here. I want to say it was a sambo’s at the time but don’t quote me on that. So when Bakers Square was leaving the location he jumped at the chance to put a Black Bear there, sort of coming full circle for him.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hall initiate a lot of the offense.
  • Cal Poly-Humboldt
Samoa Cookhouse was definitely a highlight of the annual Humboldt trips.
  • What is ailing UCD baseball ?
From what I hear it was a close call for de Veres coming back. Glad it did. I think Raising Canes is going in next door. It’s a fast food chicken place that is popular in the south (and So cal too I believe). Kind of a strange place to put a fast food place but we’ll see how it works out.

De Veres opened last week on a limited basis as they ramp up operations. I plan to head there this week.

So three new faces for the coming season. One, Milling, will see a lot of time and may even start, while the two freshmen, Lose and Niles, will probably take some time to develop but seem to have high ceilings. All 3 are very athletic and listed between 6’4” and 6’6, which will fit nicely into Les’ scheme. Losing Squire and Koehler hurts but the future looks bright. Go Ags!

New HS commit per verbal commits. Sione Lose is a 6’4” local kid from Sac. Had an offer from suc st. Looks like he’ll need to develop a bit physically but his tape show a pretty athletic player with a good all around skill set.

This is from last year so I don’t know how he has developed.

Good stuff. Both are well deserving.

    That’s great news!

Really happy for Nick’s success. He and my son played on the same basketball team when they were young (good thing he stuck with football). He’s a quality person.

So Squire is transferring to Portland St. interesting change for him. Hope he finds what he is looking for.

hmmm...the same thing happened to me. what a coincidence.

I think you're spot on. I had forgotten that Squire is big into music, so moving to some place that might offer more options in the music scene than Davis makes sense.

Yep, 3 out and 2 in (transfer Milling and 6'6" freshman commit Cameron Niles.) Not sure if that frees up a scholarship for a new commit or if it was given to a current walk on like Ba.
