  • Week 12: Sac State @ UC Davis Causeway Classic 2021
My frustration is that we haven’t had a clean game since Weber. 3 turnovers today ( none for them), some more drops (like on the second drive on what should have been a 15-yard gain; instead a second 3 and out), badly timed penalties (before the missed FG, motion on a 4th and inches with the heavy package). I don’t remember a similar mistake by our opponents the last two weeks.

I was very impressed with Sac. Lots of speed, and plenty of size on the lines. Dunnaway throws a bullet, and he had many targets. The guy next to me is a high school coach and I mentioned to him in the third quarter ‘I don’t think I’ve seen Sac run the same play twice’ . He agreed. Taylor’s offense is very innovative, gets guys open, and puts QB in position to take advantage. I don’t see that from us. Too many difficult passes. Never got the running game going. Wildcat got too predictable.

8-3 ain’t nothing. But, Sac seemed so quicker than us, and more physical. That was the best team we’ve played. Gap seemed bigger than I expected.

I still think we could get a home game; not all the schools put in a bid to host. We’ve hosted in the past. Our attendance is probably higher than some of the schools we’d be competing with (except Montana)

forecast is 63 and sunny at game time. No wind at the moment according to weather app. Any local observers?

Point taken; i just don't think O'Hara has the passing ability of Barrerre when he's scrambling. I'd think we'll be more agressive with pressure v. Dunnaway leaving us in man-to-man, more zone with minimal blitzing vs O'Hara.
  • Week 12: Sac State @ UC Davis Causeway Classic 2021
I thought we did okay vs Barriere. He was 7-45 rushing; the 411 yards of passing hurt us more. We have to score when we get in red zone and sustain drives - EWU had over 200 yards in the 4th quarter vs our gassed defense

they’ve been scoring a lot of points with the current approach; be surprised to see them change. That would be an ‘old Sac’ game plan!

maybe we can do one of those televised Yule logs and show it on the big screen at Aggie Stadium!

Not much actual football talk this week. Maybe a sign of waning confidence? 2018 we got beat up at EWU, licked our wounds and beat Sac big up in Reno. Can we repeat the bounce back? Much different Hornet team. Css add n we FINALLY play a complete conference game? That’s what it will take
  • MBB: Aggies (2-0) at Pepperdine (1-2) 7 pm Wed 11/17
I’d really like to see Manjon get off to a fast start. He was something like. 2-7 in the first half, similar to first two games. His scoring opens things for others.

It was 59-56 us with 5:25 to go; they went on 10-0 in next couple minutes to go up 66-59 and we couldn’t recover. They pushed it inside for FTs and got a couple inside shots. We missed the front end of one-and-one, turnover, a couple misses on open 3’s, and a miss down low on a setup post play. Tough end to a solid second half effort

Gotta root for Bobcats; wanna stay in top 4 of conference
  • MBB: Aggies (2-0) at Pepperdine (1-2) 7 pm Wed 11/17
They came up big down the stretch after we got up 3 with under 5 to go. Blame me : I switched from live stats to video at that time, and it was all downhill from there
  • MBB: Aggies (2-0) at Pepperdine (1-2) 7 pm Wed 11/17
Got up, then went scoreless on three straight possessions. Pepperdine made two huge shots at end of shot clock to finish us off

    wasn’t their QB injured also?

EDIT : never mind, I misread the box score

2 point underdogs; many of offensive numbers for the two teams are remarkably similar. Hopefully our defense travels well
  • How big is this Causeway Classic?
most of the games during that streak weren’t too close, at least in last 10 or so. 1982 they came to Toomey 8-1, Davis 9-0. Big game in the rain, locally televised on KOVR. Lots of hype about ‘biggest game in years’

    51-6 final.
  • How big is this Causeway Classic?
I’m pretty sure we’re both in, especially Sac (no worse than 2nd in conference), but big for seeding. Winner gets a seed, other is playing after Thanksgiving.

    Biggest Causeway in decades?
  • Week 11: Eastern Washington @ Davis
i thought Hastings was 'okay', but the lack of running game really hurt, along with the strong pass rush they generated with their front line. we couldn't get anything going up the middle, other than Thompkins with the wildcat. I think Gilliam was something like 8-25 in rushing, and none of those 25 came easy. the fly action was solid, but didn't generate many big runs.

i was talking to some folk on Friday who were very confident about the offense -> they were winning the 1 vs 1 battle throughout the week. That surely didn't show on Saturday. on to the Causeway; time to put this one behind us and hope the offense peaks.

they are saving themselves for the Bob Dunning led move to the Mountain West
