I was thinking about the shooting : if the other three starters went 16-20 from the field we STILL would have been below 50%. That’s a lot trips (17) down the court without a bucket

Shot in the mid 30’s. Not sure what we were in the first half, but it was pretty bad in the second. Hard to win when two of your top (expected) scorers go 3-20! Yikes

odds show NIU as 8 point favorites. tough matchup for us, unless we are on fire from the field (and free throw line!!!)

Anybody here planning on the grad Saturday? My wife and I might make the drive up
  • How long do Coach Hawk and Coach Plough stay?
you have to work 5 years to vest in the retirement and the pension is calculated as (average salary)*(years of service)*(age factor). that age factor for recent hires tops at 2.5% at 64. so, even with 10 years of coaching, that pension isn't a huge amount. he's too late in his career for the pension to be attractive; however, the 'Savings Factor' that UC now offers is pretty sweet.

I think Dan is here for the long-haul for all the reasons listed above. I can see Plough moving on to a FBS job, maybe a OC. He set records down at NAU with Cookus, and has put up some spectacular numbers here in a very short time. He has ties to Davis, but a move up would be appealing. If he does leave, I think little Hawk would be the likely successor.

i was telling a buddy, we should fair catch EVERY kick. use the new kickoff rule to our advantage and take over at the 25. same as punts. in the cold, i worry about turnovers in the kicking game. hard to hold on to the ball in damp, 30-degree weather after a full-speed collision.

I got the impression home and away were the same. Seems fair. There were a number of players who would normally be suited up hanging around the student tailgate. I was told it was due to playoff rules

i believe there are NCAA restrictions on roster size for the playoffs (we had fewer suited up last week than for a normal home game), so i don't think we'll be bringing any extra players.

Thomas SHOULD have scored at the end of the half on that shuffle pass. that was a really creative call with the motion and he would have waltzed into the endzone but we missed a block. again 'this close' to blowing it wide open.

i agree; he runs really tough between the tackles, but has the patience to find the seams. Gilliam is REALLY good at the off-tackle run. he almost put the game away with 2 or 3 10+ yard runs on that last drive (make the FG and its over). Thomas has also really improved in the passing game, both as a receiver and protector. I'm guessing they feel a bit more flexibilty with Gilliam, so they stay with him a little longer.

looking back....we were 'this close' to blowing that game out. Doss had his hands on a ball in the endzone on the first drive (TOUGH catch, but one we have come to expect of him) and we settled for FG. And, we couldn't get it into the endzone after that incredible catch before the end of the half. get both of them, and its 24-6 at the half with us getting the ball. I know they were lamenting their INT's , but the first one of ours should have been caught and led to a scoring opportunity (they missed a LONG field goal, so credit our D). the 2nd INT led to one of their redzone INT's, so kind of a wash.

i know there's some 'IF's' there, but if ONE of those had been TD's instead of FG's, we'd have been in a position to turn up the heat on defense in the 2nd half (instead of the run-first approach we had to play, leaving the flats open). but, its a WIN!

Quick check on southwest, two adults non stop from either San Jose or Oakland would total about $1400. A little too steep, especially in December

I think Hawk was pointing to his head to acknowledge Maier dancing around for 2-3 seconds before the first kneel down. Those seconds were just enough so we didn’t have to give them back the ball

My wife and I were looking at flights to Spokane from Bay Area. The ‘wanna get aways’ Frday non stops out of San Jose were the best deals; about as easy to fly out of there than Oakland for us. We are staying put though; have to skip the 28 degree weather

I’m exhausted! Fun game. It felt like we had chances to put them away, kept them around and it got hairy. We had the ball at the 2 after Doss’ phenomenal catch but settled for a FG. It felt like being up 20-6 and getting the second half kickoff could have put them on their heels. Then the INT that kick the WR In hands at the 5 was the other. Score there and it felt over. We fortunately picked them off after the long return but lost momentum. The other INT was very uncharacteristic and I think led to a TD.

Finally, make the relatively short FG late and it’s over.

Run D was exceptional. Their big TE/WR had some big YAC’s. Run game was solid, pass game good in first half, struggled with pressure in second.

Damn, a playoff win!! That was fun
