PH -> I have never met you, nor have any idea what you look like BUT i could picture the look on your face when we got the ball back with 3 minutes to go, after scoring 26 straight points, with a chance for a win!

I thought it was a longshot for Sac to make the playoffs. Had Montana won, there was absolutely no chance. Since they tied with EWU (and both were 7-4) and lost to them, i figured the Eagles would go first. Committee fooled me with taking neither!

we faced essentially the same Big Sky schedule as Sac, except we had Weber as a conference game, they had it as non-conference. we played San Diego, they played Incarnate Word. We had SD State, they had Idaho. We played the top 5 teams in the conference in our 8 Big Sky games. Granted we got the bottom 2, but Idaho State notched a FBS victory (yeah, Nevada is weak). Hard to call it 'easy'.

    Damn smart kids!

Seriously if he were in line to be drafted in the top half of the draft, good for him. First draft pick since O’Sullivan?

I think that was another game. Agalum might remember better. My two sons, an ag and a hornet, and spouses were in our box that day. Sunny day. Pretty sure that was 2012. Monsoon wax 2010

phantom you sound like my sac state grad son. He’s still irate about a triple reverse pass into quadruple cover in 2012 (I think) after an Aggie turnover. Changed the whole momentum of the game. We’ll see this time. We haven’t held our composure very well this year in big games beside EWU

Best case scenario: Maier is HOT, their QB reverts back to his early season struggles and we capitalize on turnovers, running game is decent and we play a clean game to clinch winning record.

Worst case: They hit early big plays, we don’t match and we’re in a Weber-like home.

I’m hosting reception for our latest grandson so won’t be there and won’t be able to follow until second half. Hope I see a nice result when I check!

they hosted a nice dinner at El Macero on Friday for the 1982 team (and guys like me from 81) and guests. that was a good turnout, probably about 70 people all together. Saturday there were probably 30 guys out there at midfield for the coinflip, with another 5-10 guys who finished in 81, or started in 83. program did a really nice job of welcoming people back.
  • MBB 7:30 pm Wednesday: Aggies (1-0) @ Pacific (0-1)
i was following via ESPN and saw us get up by 17 with about 10 to go, and stopped paying attention. next thing i knew it was 4 with a couple minutes to go. looking at the stats i had assumed it was a combo of turnovers and our 3-point shooting cooling down (i think we were 5-6 in the first half). a win is a win, especially over Pacific and especially on the road. the thing that really stood out from the stats was the lack of scoring beyond Chima. Silar had 9 in the 1st half, only 4 in the 2nd. Goode didn't attempt a shot? also, looks like our rotation is about 8 guys...that's playing it pretty thin. we'll need to figure out how to get the others more integrated in the offense.

next up : Utah Valley. always tough. they started with losses to Kentucky and Duke (!), beat Idaho State soundly on the road. that's gonna be a challange.

I thought I got something in the mail a couple weeks back about it. I’m more surprised it’s not on CSN (or whatever it’s called). Can’t remember the last time it wasn’t televised.

At the O’Brien dinner Friday they were showing clips that Fred Arp had VCR’d back then. The sac game and two playoff games were televised on channel 13. There were a bunch of clips from sportscasts hyping the game ( sac was 8-1 we were 9-0; final was 52-7). Things have certainly changed locally

Although i don't own any Weird Al 'albums' (dated ourselves there!), i can say that i saw the Weird One twice in concert with my sons. One time at Cal Expo it was about 110 with maybe 500 souls in the stands, and you would have thought it was playing Madison Square Garden. The guy is a performer!

I remember watching the 2010 on CSN Bay Area. Mark Payne was out and Hardin was coming back from injury. Caligari and Juliian Welch led the Ags. That was a pretty good team talented wise
  • MBB 6 pm PT Monday: Aggies @ Northern Colorado
That was a pretty impressive first game. Not sure how good the Bears will be, but to rally and pull away with so many new players being asked to contribute is a nice sign. 50% from the field and behind the arc. 9 turnovers. About even in rebounds. Those stats should get a win most nights.

Didn’t watch broadcast (wasn’t on Pluto that I could find) so can’t comment on how players looked. Insights beside Chima?
  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
I happened to walking back to my seat and was at the same yardline when that hit occurred. As soon as the flags flew i told my wife 'he's gone'. forearms were up high, and the receiver's neck snapped back, so even if the hit was in the chest, I was pretty sure they would eject. I thought there was a SUU hit soon after that should have warranted AT LEAST a flag/review, and there was none. Tough rule to enforce consistently.

As for the students....if you go to a high school game anywhere in the bay area, its MUCH different than in any of our days (well, if you graduated at least 15 years ago). low student turnout, they sit away from the cheerleaders, no organized cheers....just hanging out. So, they come here, and without any leadership, its pretty much the same thing. Cal's student population is as diverse as ours, and they fill up their student section pretty well (even for a 8:00 PM Thursday night kickoff). why? there is a tradition there of a student section and a STRONG leadership group making the game fun. they get the Greeks there, which we certainly don't (and I don't remember a strong Greek support in the past, but I could be wrong). We're kind of depending on freshmen to wander over from the dorms and that's not happening.
  • Big Sky Scores Week 11
Sac had two td’s (of their first three) off turnovers to really open it up. Blocked FG and recovered fumble in end zone. We’ve been in the other side of that in Weber -> changes the complexion of a game in a heartbeat. Sac is good. Ags need to finally put it together vs a good team
  • Late Season Report Card
agree. SUU would raise some eyeballs. We will really have to play our best game by far to win. Listening to coaches tonight, their defense is legit, especially the interior. Having 97 out tomorrow would help the cause
  • WBB: Washington State @ UCD
The cougars are staying on our floor at the Hyatt. Doesn’t look like they keep us up celebrating.
  • Late Season Report Card
if Sac beats Poly (i think they will, but they did struggle a bit last week vs. UNC for 3 quarters), they will go into the Causeway 5-2 in the Big Sky. SUU is 5-1 now. a victory over either would be a win over a upper tier team. Sac's lost to Weber was non-conference, so we have 3 common losses (EWU and NAU) vs BSC teams.
  • Late Season Report Card
i think the linemen are still the key. if they can't keep the DL from penetrating 2-3 yards from the edge, it throws off the timing and the path of the runner. seems like our sweep always gets spread to the edge, and inside help plus the sideline kills the play. we have some big guys on the line (the right side are both 6'6" 300-lb guys) who might have been killers in gould's power run game; quickness might not be their forte.

that being said...its all a guess. my eyes follow the ball carrier, not the linemen (like 99.9% of the fans!), and i'm not spending anytime reviewing tape!
