  • 2023 Week 1: UC Davis @ Texas A&M Commerce
Looking at the FCS scoreboard, Lindenwood (OVC) is playing DIII Wisconsin-Stevens Point and is winning 56-2. How is that allowed? Related question: Can Pioneer League teams play DIII? I know they aren't allowed to play FBS teams since they don't do scholarships.

I know FCS can also play DII and NAIA but I didn't know they were allowed to play D3. What are the rules for FBS?

I met Daniel Swain during a Picnic Day once and recall when he was the meteorologist for the Aggie. He later went to Stanford for grad and UCLA for PHD. Were you in school around that time?
  • 2023-24 MBB Schedule
Good to see them play in Davis for once. Rare to have them host both Sac fb/mbb in the same year. When was the last time Sac played at Davis in mbb?

It's going to be tough with the high heat and humidity. When was the last time the Ags played an Aug/Sept game in the south?

FBS and (formerly) Power 5 are the terms in place but your point stands.
Interesting article from Spokane that notes that we spend the most in the Big Sky with CP, Sac, and Montana bringing up the top 4.

  • Evaluating the athletic department
WCC teams have been more willing to play our WBB team but maybe that's due to them being more successful or some schools caring less about WBB vs MBB? Ags have played Gonzaga women and SMC relatively recent I think???

edit: last season they played both away.

Moscow ID is basically Davis with snow. The downtown looks identical to Davis. I've heard Corvallis is one of the best college towns in the country. I'd love to visit sometime.
  • Wild World of Realigment
I've long been a proponent for bringing Sac into the BW. Davis needs a travel partner within 2 hours. Bake is too far away. Some have floated Cal and Stanford asking some UC's to join them which would be tempting but you know they will leave when the Big Ten eventually calls. The Big West is pretty stable.
The Big Sky is too large. The Dakota and Southern Utah defections helped but ideally they'd lose one or two more schools without kicking the Ags or Cal Poly out.

Gotta be AI generated. I mean, a faded image of half dome, the Golden Gate Bridge, and a horse?
  • It's now the Pac-4 where will Cal and Stanford go?

I agree. As a west coast fan, I love unique leagues like the Pac 10 was and how the Big West/WCC are still. It's reasons like this that I don't mind the Ags in the Big Sky for football and the BW in others. When the WAC collapsed I was in the Big Sky camp.

Mods, can we move this post to the OT board for more visibility since this is a baseball specific section.
  • Why is UCD baseball so unpopular ?
Does Mens Soccer not play at the soccer field anymore?
  • Why is UCD baseball so unpopular ?
Also football games often have to be played at night in August or Sept due to the heat. Baseball is usually done by May. It can get hot in early May, but it's usually cooler than August-early Oct.

That said, Soccer starts so early, half the season is over before school starts. They could really use lights. There's shade for the fans but not so much for the players if I recall correctly. I haven't been on campus since EWU @UCD in 2017.

Soccer would benefit too, but same thing.
  • All Kickoff Times for the 2023 Season Posted
4pm seems early for the first week of October.

When I was a student 2008-2011, they did a lot more day games. They polled students and found they preferred night games. I prefer afternoon games but certainly not in August,Sept, or the first 10 days or so of Oct. I don't mind late afternoon games once you get to mid October, but 4pm for Oct 7th will likely be hot or smoky.

The Nov 4th game I would have the game start about 2 or 3pm because after sunset it gets cold and foggy in Nov and Dec.
  • Why is UCD baseball so unpopular ?
I went to a lot of baseball games at UCD and even skipped class a few times to go. Except for my last season (2011), they had very few promos and there was nothing like the excitement of the minor leagues (I was a season ticketholder to the A's and would go to maybe 5 Giants games a year so I saw a lot of baseball). The most exciting thing other than watching baseball itself was seeing if you would win a program give away drawing by number (I never won).

I feel like the trend has been going the other way...or at least with managers. You used to have good managers who never played in the big leagues or maybe a game or two.Now you have all these big names who were sort of in that middle class of the big leagues if you will. I mean look at players like Aaron Boone, Mark Kotsay, Rocco Baldelli, Phil Nevin, Dave Roberts, David Bell, etc.
  • USD Torero HC laid off, new HC hired

The full name is Peter A. Rock Hall.
My Christian friends and I love it because according to the bible, Jesus tells Peter that he will build a rock upon the church. So we like the new name even if it's a coincidence.

Which makes sense given the size of the teams. Probably Eugene then. Does M/W Basketball fly commercial?
  • Oregon State Road Trip
It's nice to take a break and play teams outside the region. I bet it's a lot cheaper to play Cal/Stan/SJSU/Fresno, and Nevada but nearby isn't too bad. Will they fly to Eugene/PDX or will they bus? Oregon State looks to be good.
