  • Pac-12 set to add Boise, 3 other MW schools
Re: Sac State raising $35 million in one day.

    1. There's a difference between donations in hand and pledges
    2. There is a blurb somewhere about a tribe - sounds like naming rights

In comparison, Cal was recently tabbed to host College GameDay - first time ever for the Bears - as they host #8 Miami. An alum donated a $1 million match pledge - the alum will donate up to $1 million, if the Cal faithful can raise one million.

We've had two great winters and a record NYE downpour. Bring back logging, fire trails and controlled burns. We should voraciously use our fire departments to aid in controlled burns - all that high-paid labor sitting idle.

On a pragmatic level, we're a decade ahead of the Hornets. Maybe more.

A lot of money comes from students, and UC Davis Health has really stepped up. We're light years ahead in facilities. A parent even funded a new field hockey facility a few years back, Dobbins Stadium, The Pavilion, and our new high performance facility.

Practice fields looks great. Natural grass?

We're playing with the big boys except for FCS football.

Is everyone here naive to the massive financial hole Cal ($500 Million) and others have dug for themselves building glitzy new facilities?

The PacX' Ms Gould was actually part of putting together that $500 M complex together which:

    - the seat plan (financing) bombed
    - attendance never boomed
    - football and basketball prized recruits didn't flock there
    - Cal wasn't a top-3 Pac12 team
    - it didn't help them land an invite w UCLA or UW

Most also seem to skip over the pseudo student-athletes Cal and UCLA attract, all so we can root for the Old U at our local pub in the Fall?

I wish Sac State well, but am curious how $35M appeared out of nowhere in 24 hours. Will that $35M follow if Sac stays in the Big Sky or moves to the now downgraded MWC?

I've skimmed a few other sites, it looks like the PacX opened up the vault to raid the MWC (for their exit fees). It could be that the Ags were hoping for similar perks that didn't transpire.

It's extremely complicated and all the parts are moving. And what happens in 2-5 years when the top 60 FBS (TV) schools break off, take the money, and run?

Has Sac built anything DI level in 50 years?

Substack - John Canzano: "The conference needs to add at least one more school that plays all sports.

    "Make another run at Memphis?

"See if UNLV has a case of buyer’s remorse?

    "Or something else?

"I’ll answer those questions in a moment, but first, let’s examine what landing the Zags did for the 108-year-old conference — it boosted credibility, increased media value, and raised profile.

"As one Pac-12 campus source told me: “Gonzaga was a big get.”..."

7400 students and 18 BCAA sports. Adding their men's basketball team was a big bonus.

Is the track still going to be there, i.e. less enjoyable for the fans.

FWIW, EWU battled Montana 52-49. I wouldn't take them lightly.

All need to also consider those still considering an exit. They could be at eight schools one day, and six the next.
  • Sac State to get a New Stadium
Haven't had time to read it yet, but how does Sac go from a poor high school gym, a stuck in the mud temporary stadium bleachers, to $35 M over 48 hours for NIL - while still an average member of the Big Sky? One or two huge donors in a government town?

UC Davis, Mercer join top-10 of Stan Becton's Week 6 Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll ballot

    "8. UC Davis (4-1) | Previous Ranking: 14 (Where I ranked them: 11)

"Welcome to the top 10 UC Davis. I've had UC Davis just outside of the top 10 since the preseason because I needed the Aggies to show me on-field evidence of them being a top-10 team. A win over Idaho was just that.

    "9. Idaho (3-2) | Previous Ranking: 4 (Where I ranked them: 1)"

"Just last week I thought Idaho was the No. 1 team in the country. The Vandals were only a two-point conversion and overtime away from remaining at the top of my rankings. However, Idaho lost. Nonetheless, I still think its resume with an FBS win and two ranked wins should keep it a top-10 team."

Our O line / running game ... quite surprising.

If we're going to get 2s and 3s some work / development, the next few games pose the best chances.

I would get Dobbins some (deep) chances (not just decoy), Fisher some carries, and the long young WR from Campolindo.

Sacramento Bee: UC Davis Aggies stun Idaho for football program’s first Top 5 victory. ‘This is really cool’ "

"After decades of devouring teams at Division II, UCD was elevated to NCAA Division I-AA status in 2004, later changed to FCS. There have been competitive contests against Top 5 teams in recent years but not until here did the Aggies secure a victory years in the making...."

"...Of the no-huddle offense, Plough said: “We can’t block that D-line (of Idaho), and not sure anyone can. Maybe the best thing is to go fast and make them tired, keep them off balance.” "
