Ugh. FWIW, we're 5 months away & three major projections (estimates) have been substantially wrong. Fauci & the CDC were originally estimating 200,000 to 2 Million deaths.

Taiwan really nailed it, shutting off travel from China 2 weeks before Chinese New Year's, no cruise ships, masks, etc. Only 300 infections & 5 deaths?

Another huge class, there have to be some departures.
  • Update today from Dr. Blue
Most of the projections now are way off. A Washington study, just from a week ago, is off by a factor of 4 - they said New York would have 50,000 now hospitalized, the number is actually 13,000. Fauci also isn't infallible - he even contradicts himself, and today he said we should wait to restart the economy until there are no more infections or deaths. As in zero. We'll be beyond a Great Depression by then.

Chloroquine has had great results in France, China, and here. Blood plasma from those with antibodies is also being used.

It's a puzzle, where are we sacrificing? Great work on the updates.

Hold the tourney early summer. Problems solved.

    New addition.

6'3" WR Suhas Ravi from De Anza College. In HS in San Ramon racked up about 300 yards receiving as a senior.

    I gotcha. PD tough.

Not so with May or June Madness. Make the call 3, 4, 6 weeks out when the trajectory is stable. Weather warmer.
  • Picnic Day
I don't know why some of these events can't merely be postponed. We don't know where we will be in 3, 4, 5 weeks.

Troy Taylor & staff pulled off a remarkable turnaround, I'm sure a lot had to do with a stud QB and a seasoned coaching staff.

Cal Poly has a brutal schedule ... 2 FBS games, both Montana's, Weber State & the Aggies in their first 7 games.
  • Spring sports
My guess is first we get through it. Our Surgeon General today said "Lean into it." Hoping the dramatic CDC estimates are wrong.

Then I suggest a May or June Madness when we know we're out of the woods. (May Picnic Day?) Hotels, vendors, folks need to get back to work, and I think it would be a fabulous way to celebrate & cap off student-athlete's careers.

Why didn't we lose our minds over the Swine Flu, which had killed over 1,000 when President Obama declared it a national emergency?

Yes, some heads should roll at CDC. We're not Italy.

Does the Orange Man live in your head rent free? One positive statement of fact about our POTUS set you off. And our Pravda MSM has pushed numerous hoaxes on us while ignoring the SpyGate soft coup.

Will the world finally push China to actually shut down their filthy 'wet' markets? Or do we have to go through this every 5 years?

    Pandemics Originating from China?

    Wuhan Flu / COVID-19 (2019)
    SARS (2003)
    Hong Kong Flu (1968)
    Asian Flu (1957)
    Spanish Flu (1918)
    Bubonic Plague

Correct! Our injuries at RB were so deep last year, I heard even Hawkins & Ronnie Austin were out. s/

Sac returns the vast majority of starters on both sides of the ball, & their prolific QB. They will be tough.

I made one comment complimenting one decision, and you lost it, as did cmt.

    Education & information are good.

But why the 180 degree different approach by the media, which seems intent on driving a near hysteria? Look at the infections & deaths above from the Swine Flu! And why are people hoarding toilet paper?

[Edit.] And now this from China. A state-run media article in China, claimed that China could impose pharmaceutical export controls which would plunge America into "the mighty sea of coronavirus." More proof we need to bring home manufacturing of key pharmaceuticals.

Yes, hopefully Spring sports are suspended, not cancelled. And why not a - delayed - May Madness?

I just watched an excellent piece from 60 Minutes Australia. Some top scientists, and the highly controversial, possible vector - Chinese wet markets. Warning: graphic.

cmt, please save your name calling for someone else. (One statement of fact sends you off the deep end?)

The Swine Flu (Obama Administration) infected 60 Million Americans, 300,000 were hospitalized, and we had no media frenzy. Unprecedented?

    Deaths in the US:
    Corona virus - 40
    Swine flu - 12,500
    Flu - 20,000 - 60,000 per year?

Bringing our prescription drug manufacturing home may also be wise.

Toke69 makes a great point. Besides, if we cancel school & kids hang out at the mall, how does that help?

I say postpone, don't cancel. May or June Madness!
