SHouse Law Group: "If you acted with gross negligence, then Penal Code 192(c) vehicular manslaughter is a wobbler. This means it may be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony.5

"The maximum misdemeanor sentence for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence is one (1) year in county jail—and the maximum felony sentence is six (6) years in state prison.6"

Wrong. I identified one arrogant, reckless cyclist in over a decade. I routinely give cyclists extra room, sometimes slow when passing, and if it's a narrow road, will drive half way over the center line to give said cyclists added safety, or follow behind. You're making sweeping generalizations that don't hold water.

I've already alluded to my feelings that the driver should face real consequences (not draconian). He allegedly is at fault, speculation is that he was texting.

As an aside, for years I've seen cyclists blow through stop signs. It doesn't seem legal or safe, I just shake my head.

You seem to be dismissive towards the well documented and extensive spying by China in America. Not to mention Christine Fang, aka Fang Fang, enmeshed herself in Northern California politics, including allegedly 'dating' Congressman Eric Swalwell. Senator Dianne Feinstein having a Chinese spy as her driver for 20 years. Or Feinstein and Mitch McConnell (R) having extensive business investments in China, long before Hunter Biden.

Our prior Administration confronted China's dumping of steel, and hallowing out of our manufacturing base. Something US President's ignored for decades. Author and Chinese expert Michael Pillsbury - author of The Hundred Year Marathon - states that President Trump was our toughest and shrewdest president in relation to China since President Eisenhower. His trade team was outstanding, and cemented a vastly improved USMCA (closes China's backdoor, tariff-free entry into the US). USMCA also bolsters Mexico.

China's economy was hammered by his moves and tariffs, their economy tanked and they devalued the yuan, while our economy grew by $2 Trillion (pre Covid). 3.5% unemployment, tens of Billions in tariffs flowed in, and a Silicon manufacturing explosion in Arizona. Manufacturing here started a rebound, along with steel and aluminum. All improvements Wall Street didn't want.

I can understand. There are also "entitled bicyclists". I gave a polite toot to a bicyclist well outside the bike lane in the same area, and he flipped me an aggressive "bird".

My take is killing someone because of alcohol or a cell phone is quite different than being blinded by the sun or lost in a blind spot. And the parents skate bc he's 18?

So, he walks or a few years in Club Fed + probation?

Very sad & tragic. Injuries were described as "horrific". He leaves behind a wife and three daughters.

"...And every minute that this goes unresolved, the rumors continue to swirl, growing darker by the day. You’re presumed guilty, even if you’re not.

"For sure, no one wants a rush to judgment, and UC Davis officials are right to insist on a thorough investigation given the seriousness of the charges, but an innocent player must feel like marching into the athletic director’s office or the chancellor’s office to demand that the investigation must have a much shorter timeline.

"Put simply, those who are without fault, be they players or coaches, should be cleared and cleared quickly...."

Interesting refresher. I recall one young lady came off like a rabid SJW. If I recall, some members were a bit naughty (jacuzzi time), others were in the corner studying.

I read some posts on Fa--book at the time, possibly from the former band Director (?), now at Davis HS (?), which seemed to imply he played a behind the scenes, Activist role.

For those looking for a cheery baseball story, Netflix has a fun movie about a renegade Independent pro baseball team in Portland in the 70s... the Mavericks, run by Hollywood actor Bing Russell (Gunsmoke actor, father of Curt) and a true student of baseball. Fun, authentic, open tryouts, MLB intrigue.

This got almost no attention here.

Lance Der Manuelian is an Aggie; 6'4" WR. From Sutter Creek, ran 4x100, won high jump, and MVP of his soccer team.

Michael Fesili also overlooked here? 6'3", OL from Long Beach Poly.

    1. I'm surprised the Chancellor said anything.

    2. A 4 month or more investigation, when they already have some type of solid evidence & corroboration?

SacBee: UC Davis chancellor confirms hazing is tied to suspension of baseball team, coaches

"Hazing allegations are at the root of why the UC Davis baseball program was placed on suspension Thursday by the school administration, according to a statement posted online Friday by UCD chancellor Gary S. May.

"May wrote to UCD faculty and staff and in a statement posted midway through a page on the UCD website under the headline “Checking in with Chancellor May: Onward Toward Fall”: “I know many of you have read or heard that we have suspended the baseball team pending an investigation. We are responding to credible allegations of misconduct primarily related to hazing. A thorough investigation is underway, and we will take appropriate action at the conclusion of the investigation.”

"May concluded the statement with, “Let me be clear that whenever there are credible allegations of misconduct of any kind, the university will take appropriate steps to review those claims. The university has a posture of zero tolerance with respect to hazing. Our students’ health and well-being is our No. 1 priority.” ..."

I think we're jumping the gun without any facts or context, especially since baseball has been a part of the community since at least 1912. Unless 'Woke' hysteria rules.

Then again, we lost the Aggie Banduh & Physical Education.

Re scheduling needs: couldn't we have an interim leader, Coach Swimley or such?

"But how do you explain the lack of African-American and Asian-American participants ?"

For decades, colleges & universities like UCLA, USC, Howard, HBCU, and urban schools, have been more attractive and closer to SoCal families.

We're a science oriented school - no business school or majors like Recreational Management.

Last I read, there is a nationwide decrease in African Americans playing our pastime. Coach Swimley early in his 'retirement' joined an effort to reduce this trend.

You mentioned a slippery slope - from a potential infraction / hurt feelings, to recruiting.

I guess a potential solution would be to fund recruiting in Los Angeles, but baseball fans here say we have loads of competition in SoCal. We could recruit in the Carribean.
