Looking at the list, makes me NOT want to make the jump up to FBS until we are really, really, really ready with respect to facilities, fan support, players, and money. Feels like we just got to the top level of FCS and I would like to enjoy it for a few years.

Sac State was somewhat correct when they stated "FBS or Bust." For them, my guess is that it will be FBS AND Bust."

I did watch the game and perhaps is "best" plays involved a 4th down conversion (hit behind the line and managed to get the first down) and a third and long run (for a first) and a third down pass play where he was hit short of the first down market and broke free to get the first. Some of his pass protection was not great but in general a very good performance.

Anyone get the opportunity to make it to the scrimmage today? If so, would love to hear your observations.

We will see how we do with a bigger budget and at a higher level of competition in the Mountain West.

Can we be respectable vs SMU, maybe? When we play them, that will be their second game of the season (our 3rd) and they will be coming off a Monday evening game in FL. Not a lot of turn-around time for them to prepare. If they look past us or don't take us seriously, the game might be respectable.

The Ags need to focus on Portland, i think we looked past them a few years ago and it almost cost us the game.

Looking at our roster with respect who is coming back, coming up, or transferring in, I feel like this is the deepest the team has been on offense, defense, and special teams. Even with 3 freshman QBs, can anyone point out an area of concern?

That is some great information on where UC Davis football stands, moving in the right direction with respect to FCS. Finally having the funds to compete. Doing more with more (not just more with less).

However, it does show where we need to go in the event we want to move to the Mountain West for football.

Side note. For the 2024 season, Sac State had the second highest football expenditures at the FCS level (for reporting schools). Their record for the 2024 season . . . 3-9. This is what "bust" looks like.

That tiny number of donations and the small dollar amount raised makes me wonder where the money is really coming from over at Sac State to fund their FBS football program.

Attended a portion of the Spring game yesterday and first of all, what a great idea to plan the game on picnic day! Small crowd but my guess is that after a few years it will become a bigger event. Also, what a wonderful opportunity for any future player to have an unofficial visit (lots for the entire family to see/do around the campus).

Yes, I was interested in the QBs and other positions but for the day, I was focused on special teams. All of our kickers looked great! It was nice to see the focus on kickoff coverage.

Also, my early season prediction is that one player, Xzavior Guess, will have a "breakout" season starting with punt returns, expanding his roles to other special teams, and then moving into the rotation as a receiver by the end of the year.

Just renewed my season tickets for the 2026 season.

For season ticket holders, better to renew your tickets now than waiting to the end of the summer. That way the ticket office can spend time seeking out new fans instead of spending time tracking down folks that already plan to renew. FYI, while the ticket prices are the same, the license to purchase tickets have gone up. I sure this is all part of the process to build UC Davis into a power at the FCS level and perhaps put us in a better financial position to move to the FBS level (if that level is even around in 5 years).

Does Sac State have a basic math problem.

I have not followed this issue as closely as others, but I have not seen anything involving any financing projections. I hear them speak about higher revenue from multiple sources, but again, not seen the math.

Without looking at the line-item revenue and expense assumptions, hard to say if this is a good move (financially) or a move that will bankrupt the athletic program.

Consider other FBS programs are bleeding money, hard to believe Dr. Woods and his crew can do it better.

Without any inside knowledge, i think the decision of Locker coming to Davis reflects on the quality of our program, and the respect Coach Plough has earned in the "recruiting marketplace".

These athletes need to have a conversation with the family that donated 120 million to the vet school, perhaps funding the equestrian team could be a condition of this incredible gift.
