On a happier note. Halloween is coming Davis. Do you know that many alumni come back to davis with their kids to do the downtown trick or treat thing. They come from far away and recall how davis was so safe and happy during their days there. There is no hotel space in davis on Halloween! I learned the hard way coming from the sac airport. No rooms! Try and bottle that! I still came into town and all the kids were so happy with their young parents. Sent happy chills down my spine.

I wholeheartedly support this. We do not do enough of this stuff. Many universities do more of this and do it well. V & E is our most prestigious department and it is right that they start with them. It has the potential to bring in a lot of dollars to UCD if used wisely. Yes, big names work: Wade, Waters, Mondavi and many more are out there. I think UCDs Shaun Keister is doing a great job! Let’s do more!

It is also very common for SF business firms, law firms, hedge funds etc. to give out Stanford/Cal tickets to employees and to clients. I really don’t see that happening in Sac, much less davis for UC Davis. Having said that, Stanford/Cal attendance very poor still. Am I seeing attendance down at all FBS schools in CA? Sure looks like it.

I agree with DRM and agalum. Very unlikely that we move to FBS for a number of reasons some previously stated. First, it would be enormously unpopular with present CA FBS member schools some of which are experiencing a lot of financial stress to their overall programs due to the cost of running an FBS football program. Just for example, Cal feels that Sac is “their territory” for recruiting and it has many alum (many more than UCD) there which they count on financially. Fresno feels the Central Valley is theirs for some good reason. Second, attendance. Cal cannot get its students to their games, so how can we? Ditto San Jose St. Cal alum told me that his kids at Cal “do not go to football games- boring”. Game v. WSU there were empty stands in a facility that just took hundreds of millions of dollars to upgrade. So where do we get the fans for the games? The only obvious place would be Sacramento. Why would they come all the way to Davis when they have their own team in town. And then there’s the media. Davis has no real newspaper or TV. The DE? It’s a 5 day a week understaffed joke; almost like a advertisement paper you would get free at the Safeway. OK, so we rely on the Bee? Sac TV? Good luck with that. So all that nonsense about how our stadium will be “packed” is just b******t and BD knows that. Oh, and I forgot. We will have to upgrade our stadium to handle all these new fans. Should we hire the Cal engineers to get all this done for under $400,000,000? BD used to be happy with Jim Socher or BB during their reigns in DII. Why the switch?

I wonder if the “lone safety” 25 yards back that we have utilized so far is actually in preparation for EWU and its very mobile QB. As some have said: the bend but don’t break defense. Barrier got blitzed a lot in the playoffs last season and did not handle it well and EWU lost that game. We have a big D-line and very fast and Mobile LBs, so, yes we give up some big chunks of yardage some times but so what if we eventually stop the offense and they do not score? That lone safety is a big part of that IMHO.

I would agree with that DrM. We all love BD, but hey, we are all getting along and so can’t he just take a victory lap? And its who wins the game right, not who has the best media guys.

I read early on that TT has the unique ability to pass effectively without having to use the seams to grip the ball. If so, that should at least make for a super quick release.

I would not be surprised to see Hawk keep HR on the bench for this next game. Concussions are just way too serious to deal with. A concussed brain will not readily heal after a second hit to the head. If this occurs, then he is gone for the season or forever. Hawk is way too close to the parents to even chance this. Plus, we have other guys ready to play. Just IMHO.

Probably not, but TT? No question. He is a Paul Horning type of guy. Very rare.

Agree with all of that. One of the worst called games in a long while for me. Marsh and Dunning do the same thing. Big on Aggie legend and lore and bad on what is going on down on the field. And they go on blabbing about a play long over and miss what’s going on in front of them. I love BD but its time to give him a rest. Even his voice is going. Bad!

My question is: who is the person who needs to ask the motor pool? Seems like there just no will to do this. Most people would say I am pretty liberal, but I am conservative when it comes to the love of cultural history and traditions. They are the glue that keeps us together. Anybody know who this person might be?
