  • No Big Sky football this fall
Got a call today from the department. 3 choices for season ticket holders. Get a refund, use for credit for next fall, or donate funds to the department. No mention of spring ball.
  • No Big Sky football this fall
I’m totally onboard with this decision. Financially it certainly will hurt. But the likelihood is there will be a vaccine and hopefully the spread of this darn thing will settle down by spring. Why roll the dice with peoples lives? Save one fan or player and missing a season is not important.
  • Big Sky Virtual Kickoff July 23-24

Regarding the Reno game. Even if they play and allow fans i won’t make the trip. And that’s one of my favorite (renewed) rivalries.

If its fall ball every other row at best seems possible. But you could still end up with non family members next to you. Base it on donation level? Lottery? Spring ball would hopefully make covid precautions more subdued. Fall ball just seems like a very remote possibility. As much as we love football, student health needs to be the big priority, and i believe it is in the eyes of the department.

And baseball is about as physically distant as you could be for a team sport.

Yellowstone. I usually dont watch series but this one is excellent.

Are you furloughed from work? I’m on recall after retiring and it is actually nice to go into work once in a while. As Zythe said, exercise is a great stress reducer. With that said, this whole situation is depressing for everyone so you're not alone.

We have an escape house in remote Lassen County so have been spending more time there which is major league social distancing. Ive been taking on-line spanish lessons and planning to improve my German. Missing my low impact cardio at the gym, biking to make up for it but very nervous about biking on country roads.
  • Davis Sport Shop is Closing after 64 Years
Sad to see it go. The survivors are the ones that could make a presence with online sales. I do my best to support local, but ebay and amazon are so darn easy.

What I’m pointing out is the graph is picking details that they think supports their objective, leaving out other details that may not. That’s why i used the term “skewed.”

My wife’s late step father was a very conservative aeronautical engineer and worked for a large defense contractor, her mom was very liberal. Back in my younger years, my favorite pass time was to bring up any hot political topic over dinner, then quietly excuse myself. Even though they had very different views on the world, they were happily married for about 40 years before passing.

To be fair, the Lincoln project has one objective, to defeat Trump. Their graph is skewed to reflect this, missing lots of details. And believe me, there are plenty of decisions he’s made that i shimmer over, but the evolution of this virus is forcing many politicians to shift positions frequently.

Our own Finn is the engineer behind that job :).
  • COVID-19
I hear the seasonal flu comparison frequently. It might hold water if COVID had a similar seasonality. But it doesn’t. I was really expecting (hoping) that the summer weather would knock the incidence down. It appears were going to be stuck with this until we have an effective vaccine.
  • COVID-19
Comparing the total number of new cases between countries is deceiving. A more meaningful statistic would be total new cases per 1,000 (or pick the number) population.
  • UCLA to focus on online classes, limit in person classes in fall
Ive been retired from UCD for a few years but keep getting called back. I went back this week for the first time since the pandemic. Masks are supposed to be worn. I noticed the students would be in close contact, then quickly put their mask on when another person entered the room. The current demographics support the idea that younger age groups are becoming infected to a greater degree as compared to earlier in the pandemic. Remember when you had to have a TB test before starting school? In my mind being tested COVID negative before coming back to school would go along way to prevent a disaster.

My wife is always looking forward as she plans family gatherings and trips. And each month I find myself making the same comment, “lets give it another month and re-evaluate.”

I sent in all my team aggie and season ticket renewal fees/donations anticipating we will have sports next season. Lets hope we have a season.

There was a donation page sometime back. Finn took over the admin responsibilities so you might PM him.

Three CSU schools — Sac State, Cal Poly and San Jose State — are on UC Davis’ 11-game fall schedule that begins Aug. 29 at Nevada.

Reports UC Davis Athletic Director Kevin Blue, “I’ve spoken with several of the CSU athletics directors from Division I and they’ve explained that the news hasn’t changed their preparation for fall sports.”

I always liked the Sacramento Union better than the bee. I dropped the bee a long time ago. The delivery costs were just too expensive for the product.
  • Football in the spring?

Great comments, but unfortunately we have plenty of people in Yolo County that are just as ignorant or cavalier about this virus. I was in the Woodland Costco just before the mandatory mask requirement. They were limiting the number of customers so the store was not crowded. I was wearing a mask and I hear some guy clearing his throat behind me then reaching in to grab an item right next to me. I told him to maintain 6’. He obviously didn't care. I am very forthright with people when shopping to insure the best i can that people show me the same respect, and distance, that I am providing for them.
