  • MBB 11/23: Aggies (1-5) at Indiana (4-1)
Great effort by the Ags in a very tough place to play. We got homered on some of the calls once IU started to roll which led to Les getting T'd up...hey, it's the Big10 and IU was at home and it showed with 4 FTA's by the Ags and 21 by the Hoosiers. Coming into this game I would have said that if we kept the spread under 25 it would be a pretty fair effort against a team with the kind of talent Indiana has.

Really good to hear Coach Les in an upbeat mood after the game. He said he's really proud of how the team played and, if we can play with that kind of effort here against a team like Indiana, we will be a tough out. He was funny talking about the T he got and said, "I was having a good conversation with the ref. He's a midwest guy and I'm a midwest guy and I was telling him a few things about officiating and he was telling me his side about it."

AJ's shot was coming back tonight and Caleb Fuller is starting to show us that he's going to be a very good player for us as he gets more PT. I also liked the fight and determination the Ags showed tonight. Now we have to keep it going. We'll be battle tested for sure by the time conference begins.

48-45 Ags. Going through a bit of a scoring drought. Need some shots to fall but we're in the game!

It'll be tough to slow the Hoosiers down in the second half...too much individual talent. I'm impressed how well we played so far though.

39-37 Ags at the half. The Hoosiers came out flat but Juwan Morgan has brought them back with 19 points. The Ags will need to continue to play the best ball they've ever played to have a shot in the second half. Go Ags!

24-13 Ags! Playing their best BB of the year.

9-4 Ags off to a nice start. Fuller with 2 early fouls.
  • WBB 11/23: Southern Utah (1-1) at UCD (1-3)
My guess is Jen Gross will start:

    Morgan Bertsch
    Kourtney Eaton
    Nina Bessolo
    Cierra Hall
    Kayla Konrad

  • MBB 11/20: Aggies (1-4) vs Sac State (1-0) at the Golden 1 Center
I can only imagine that when Les put this schedule together he thought he had the horses in the stable that he felt could compete in the race but, so far, that doesn't look to be the case. Unfortunately, if this losing trend continues, it's not going to help recruiting at all.

The greater Sacramento area is hungry for some high level D1 major sports such as football and basketball. You have to go to the bay area, Fresno or Reno to find that right now.

The sky is the limit If either school were to grow these sports to a higher D1 level and prestige and were able to bring in schools to compete against that fans actually get excited about. That would mean teams like Nevada-Reno and Boise in football and any of the PAC12 schools in basketball for example. It would require a big increase in resources and facility upgrades but whoever gets there first will win the prize.

From the Enterprise: Hornets get even, sting late in hoops clash at Golden 1 Center

“We won ugly tonight,” Sac State head coach Brian Katz said afterwards, alluding to the 40 combined turnovers between the two teams. “They made some unforced turnovers, but so did we. (But) we won at the foul line.”

“We struggled on both ends of the floor,” Aggie coach Jim Les said. “I don’t think we even scored in the last five minutes.”

Les admitted he had second thoughts after not calling a timeout prior to Schneider’s shot.

“I told the team, I regretted not giving them a chance and not being more vocal to call a timeout,” Les said. “We just needed one more defensive stop, but we couldn’t come up with it.”

“Our carelessness with the ball, it’s a problem,” the eighth year UCD hoops mentor added. “It’s not just one guy, it’s a number of guys. And it’s affecting us and a lot of those points in transition off those turnovers where we can’t get our defense set.”

Here's another stat that we need to clean up. We have turned the ball over 106 in 6 games for an average of 17.6 per game. Of those, TJ and Siler have accounted for 58 TO's. That means our two main ball handlers have committed 58% of our TO's. That's not good.

I think TJ's 27 TO's are largely due to how hard he is trying to make something happen when the offense is struggling. He's fearless and will drive the ball into the redwoods but teams know that now and are more prepared for him. Siler just drives himself into trouble too often. He's fearless also and never quits but he seems to be pressing more this year and turning the ball over.
