I think I’d take my chances with Bakersfield. I don’t think we’ll stink 3 times vx them! Hawaii isn’t a great matchup - we were fortunate to beat them at home.

I’m afraid his knee issues are long term so time to graduate and move on with his life. From what I’ve heard from folks around the program, he’s a great kid - really sorry he wasn’t able to play this year.

Or, someone screwed up and put his pic instead of Niko.

Here is the Senior Night promo the department sent out. I see Borra but no Rocek. Does he have another year? A COVID thing?

Agree about the commentators. I thought almost all the BWC commentors were good this year. Can't remember the really bad team (Bakersfield?) but the rest have been very well prepared and didn't go too crazy for the home team.

agree completely - I hope I didn’t come off as putting this game on him and Connor. There was a point around midseason (I think going into Pepperdine) he was shooting 50% from the Arc. Since then, the basket has shrunk for him. Easy for me to say ‘it’s all mental’…but he seems to be pressing so much. His effort and intelligence has never waivered. Same for Sevilla.

If somehow that 1-13 was 5-13 (decent shooting) that’s at least 8 points.. different ballgame.

From the Big West boards. Note that Hawaii plays at Bakersfield and CSUN.
  • Post-Season for the Big West
Unfortunately our collapse last home stand has made this last home stand irrelevant (except to possibly get a non losing record). There are 2 games of note this week : CSUN vs UCR, and Hawaii at CSUB.

First game could determine 3rd seed although I’m not positive about tie breakers. Poly has two easy games so should finish 8-12. I think Hawaii beats CSUB at Bakersfield to sneak in at 8-12, with CSUB on the outside at 7-13. UCSB should finish 11-9. I fear we’ll finish 9-11 with a 6 seed to take on whoever has the tiebreaker between Hawaii/Poly.

story of the season- our defense keeps us in games, and we win when we can squeeze out some offense. It seems like everyone is so much longer than us - takes away penetration and makes us rely on contested parameter shot. In the first half that I watched, their zone didn’t give us many good looks - I’m assuming the same was true in the second half? 1-13 from Leo and Sevilla isn’t a winning combo, nor is continuing to get beat in the boards

Down 35-29 at half. Offense is stagnant (Hawaii zone is effective). Rocek has 3 fouls which may play a big role in the second half.

I’ve been out at little league games all day so I can’t make it through the rest of the game. Hoping we can figure out a way to pull it out

2.5 point underdogs which is closer than I can remember a game at Hawaii.

Speaking of spreads: SsnDiego +26.5 over Fullerton. I’d take the Tritons to cover easily. They are trying to pad their NCAA resume
  • Post-Season for the Big West
if we tie UCSB, we’d get the head to head tiebreaker. We are almost certainly 6 or 7, shouldn’t matter which.
  • Other Big West Games and Standings
Saturday’s game will say a lot about who’s in and the final 4 seeds. Bakersfield vs Poly, and our game. A Poly loss puts them with 13 losses; even with games vs the bottom 2, they’d be hanging by a thread, and Bako would be in. A Poly win….they’d probably finish at 12 losses with Bako (home vs Hawaii). A win by us put Hawaii on the brink especially with road games vs Bako and CSUN to follow. A win by them keeps them alive but that road trip will be tough. I think we’re in the 6/7 regardless of the outcomes - either Bako or Hawaii will have at least 12 losses.

My guess is we stay at 6 even with 11 losses, where an opening round win would give us a shot vs UCR. If Bako wins out, they’d be 6 since they beat us twice. Hawaii wins out? Not sure who wins that one.
  • Ags vs Tritons on ESPN2
how was the crowd? Looks pretty full from the highlight clip I saw. UCSB is getting hot. Poly has 12 losses so we’re in. Bako and LBSU going to OT. Poly is still in the running for 8.
  • Ags vs Tritons on ESPN2
Article also says : ‘ UC Davis (15-13, 9-8 Big West) needs just one more win to punch a ticket to the Big West Championship.’

Again, I don’t think that’s true, but I’ve been wrong before. Either Bako or Poly will have at least 12 losses, so we’re in.
  • Post-Season for the Big West
    my guess is money!

I’ve also read that some schools didn’t like the closeness of the Honda center to some schools (not a neutral site) and that the Honda Center was too big for thd Big West - lots of empty space (18k arena vs about 6k)
  • Post-Season for the Big West
Just following up on my post, Bako and Poly still play each other, so someone will be eliminated with a loss in that game.

I’m obsessing a bit on this because I’m going to the tournament for the first time and don’t want to be without a team!

Big West site shows only 5 teams in. I guess it’s still possible there could be 4 teams at 9 wins? I would think tiebreakers get goofy at that point.
  • UC Davis Athletics Joining Mountain West - Football to Follow
SLC is definitely an easier trip. It’s just that they will be the outlier in a SOCal league which may cause issues with the Thursday/Saturday games. Much easier to deal with UCSB/Poly weekend than CBU/UVU.

I think our crappy schedule (42 days between Saturday home games, 3 weeks between home games of any kind) shows how much input/respect an outlier school (not located in Hawaii) gets at the BWC meetings.
