with SEC schools set to pay roughly $15M (estimates I’ve been reading) to their football players AND trying to suppress the NIL system, what’s the incentive to NOT sign with one of the 2-3 major conferences. The lure of FBS independent football? Weird

from an Enterprise article that talks about his experience playing in Japan:

'Replacing Randy Wright after UCD opened 0-2, Laughrea was managing a 10-7 lead against visiting Northern Arizona before the Lumberjacks picked off two of his passes — returning each for long, fourth-quarter touchdowns and a 21-10 victory.

Laughrea started one more game for the Aggies (a 41-10 loss to Portland State) before Gould handed the reins back to Wright.'

I remember we were SO desperate for success back then that Scott Marsh was gushing at halftime of the NAU game. He was interviewing Sochor and tried to get his input on our new QB, and added some mention of Ken O'Brien. I think Sochor nicely said something like 'let's pump the brakes a bit.' Boy, that was a dark era for Aggie fans.

the other question ….how long with this process last? There will be appeals regardless the outcome. This seems like a multi year process to my admittedly non-legal mind.

Moroski was injured before the Poly gsme in 78. It was regionally televised on ABC. Someone started in his place but was ineffective and they brought Johnny Lu in. He led a comeback win. I believe that was his only action that year. In 79, Matt Weinrich started with John as a backup (my frosh season). I’m pretty sure Lucido never started that season but I could be wrong - I only suited up for 4 varsity games (after playing a Friday night Frosh game ).

OB redshirted that year, and took over in 80.

Johnny Lu only filled in for a few games when Moraski was hurt. Matt Weinrich was between Mo and Kenny O and he was less than average.

I’d say Randy Wright was not a very good QB despite his record vs Sac

very similar to my high school scoring average…..if you slide that decimal point one over to the left.

I’m not quite sure how the Australian leagues work. Eli had a solid first year with the Perth Wildcats on the NBL; now he’s averaging nearly 50 (yes, 50) with a team out of Warwick in the NBL1 which sounds like a semi-pro league- maybe similar to the NBA summer league? His minutes and numbers dropped quite a bit the last few games of the Perth season with minutes going from the 20s down to below 10.

based on recent court cases that have gone against the NCAA, i wouldn't beat against Sac pulling off something.

it reminds me of the episode of the office where Oscar tells Michael he needs to declare bankruptcy.

    ‘I DECLARE BANKRUPTCY!!!’

‘Uh, Michael, there’s a little more to it than that’

it sounds like Texas State is the choice (unless they decide to go to 9 football, which doesn't make much sense). This seems to be the consensus of several articles after the Pac12 just signed a deal with CBS:

don’t forget Merrimack and Sacred Heart, the other 2 independents. Big West is a better fit for them; I’m guessing the BSC had no interest in a football only

How does this work with the Big Sky's 63 equivalency limit for the 2025 season? I had assume that Sac had been moving forward a larger number.

if I remember correctly, they had brought in a ton of transfer the year before. Something like 25

I just don’t see the revenue source as an independent, but maybe I’m missing something. Trying to get football specific income numbers from UMASS or UCONN is difficult (other than ticket revenue) since their overall media money is due to other sports (especially UCINN’s Big East cash).

I got to know one of the parents a bit last season and talked often when we ran across each other at games. At Vegas, we were talking about the season and how early injuries (Borra and Roberson) effected the team and may have led to the late season collapse. He was saying his son felt Roberson was a ‘GameChanger’.

Hope for this sake (and ours!) he gets healthy and has a chance to show his potential

thanks. I thought I had read that there was a 85 limit splittable, but maybe that was old (line two weeks ago) news.

it’s actually 85 ‘full’ that can be split amongst 105. Still an increase of 20 of both sexes.

I’m in Toronto and saw a little blurb about Team Canada soccer and saw a familiar face. An Aggie connection in the 2026 World Cup!

It feels like we’ve really improved, although I’m a bit worried about our center position. I expect a big leap up from Cooper, and I think Sevilla will be better with a reduced work load. Robeson remains the big unknown.
  • Jake Maier and the Calgary Stampeders

i was a bit surprised he was traded for such a low draft pick (8th round). I knew his stock dropped last year in Calgary, but not that far.

I guess Miles Hastings decided not to give it a go up in Canada. I saw this article:
