• Transfer Portal
I wish Vargas well but all that glitters is not gold.

At Davis, he would have gotten lots of playing time at RB, and the opportunity to improve his game, blocking, catching out of the backfield, and most important, ball protection. In addition, he could have worked on special teams (like Lan) to increase his value when the NFL draft comes knocking.

At Cal, my guess is that they will expect results and will be much less forgiving for any mistakes. May find himself watching more of the games at Cal than playing in them at Davis.
  • Transfer Portal
Question, if a player is serious about transferring, does it not make sense to announce ASAP and officially enter the portal right away? Vergas announced during the season in order to allow time to "market" himself and CP made it official on the first day (Jan2). I believe players can take time before deciding where to go but in order to make spring ball, my guess is that they would need to move quickly in order to enroll in a new school.

FYI, loved Gbatu's comment. I think that was a message to his team members who may be thinking about leaving.
  • Transfer Portal
Although I do not like players leaving, I cannot fault players for transferring for the money or for the opportunity to play somewhere else (if you have been riding the bench).

The transfer portal and NIL has changed the way we recruit (and re-recruit) each year, I wonder if this will change how coaches coach going forward. For example at the QB position, should we have played other QBs last year as an "insurance policy" for the good of the team and program? I am a big fan of developing deep rosters (and playing more kids) but this approach can have a negative impact on the w/l record if the best players are not playing.
  • Conner brothers eligibility lawsuit
Anything similar between this case and the Conner's situation?
  • FCS Playoffs Quarterfinals: Illinois State (10-4) @ #8 UC Davis (9-3)
That is great news, i believed that traveling during finals week always hurt the performance of our team so with the game being home this year, Freshman players not getting kicked out of their housing, and a bigger student crowd, we are certainly providing our football team a good home-field advantage. We will need it.

Now if we win our appeal with the Twins AND if Carter is healthy, this will turn out to be a good week going into Saturday's game,
  • 2025 FCS Playoffs
Best case scenario for this coming Sunday is that three out of the four remaining teams are all from the Big Sky.
  • Attendance
Was at the game and consider the late start and that RI does not travel well, not a bad crowd. I am hoping with an afternoon game and dry weather, we will have a better crowd next week (less students perhaps but more community).
  • Attendance
With a 7 pm game, feel like this will be a student-driven crowd. Late game for families and people out of the area to attend, but good time for a college crowd. Basketball (i think) has done a good job of getting students to "big games" . . . lets hope we have long lines when the gate opens at 6 pm.
  • Attendance
One way we can all help out is to invite family and friends to attend the game (as a group). I got five new people to go to last week's game by taking this approach,
  • Attendance
Moving in the right direction. Historical average home-game attendance (regular season):

    2022 - 9,876
    2023 - 10,966
    2024 - 11,135
    2025 - 12,991
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
I would expect a large number of Sac players will enter the portal as "insurance" against not having a schedule for next season. With only 3/4 games "inked", my guess is that they are having a very hard time finding games. Might also have a hard time holding onto players that have already committed for next year, especially any receivers.
  • 2025 WEEK 9: Aggies @ Bears in Greeley, CO 12:00 PM PT
    A win is a win.

Hopefully over the next few weeks, we stay health and get back a few players that went down in the first part of the season. Especially in the secondary. Also, I believe we can play Freshman AND preserve their eligibility if they play 3 regular season games or less. I do not believe playoff games count.
  • Big Sky Games: 2025 WEEK 8
Not a big Montana fan (although I do have a tremendous amount of respect for their program) but I do not know of any other program that at the administrative level as foolish as Sac state. They are a great case study on how not to behave.

Pulling 100% for Montana to not only win, but to run up the score on behalf of all of the other JV football teams.
  • Battle for the Golden Horseshoe: UC Davis @ Cal Poly
Curious, did any Davis players get injured in the game?
  • 2025 Big Sky Football Games Week 6
    Montana 42, Idaho State 38

    Time left - 2 minutes left Idaho driving . . .
  • Battle for the Golden Horseshoe: UC Davis @ Cal Poly
Poly "game notes" do not list either Conner brothers in the 2-deep.

If Ty Richardson (CB) and Garretson (LB) are still out, we will see if the defensive depth can carry us until these players return later in the year. Fingers crossed that none of these guys experienced a season ending injury.
  • Weber State @ UC Davis

Home attendance for the first two games:

    2025 - 29,455
    2024 - 23,575
    2023 - 22,666
    2022 - 23,216
    2021 - 21,487.

So far, attendance numbers are looking pretty good.
  • Weber State @ UC Davis
We do have a lot of new faces on D and we seem to be playing more people. As long as we keep winning, developing depth, and staying healthy, i think we have the opportunity for a deeper playoff run.

But I do agree, it is difficult to see our D give up so many yards on the ground.
  • 2025 Big Sky Football Games Week 2
Central Washington (D II) beating Montana in first half.
