Great breakdown, much appreciated. I don't think loyalty or tenure earn anything but maybe a tiebreaker at best if it's dead even in modern college football. This is the era of the mercenaries. Plough & Shelton will have everything statted, and I would figure that it may come down to the numbers after training camp. Great problem to have with two of them though, can't keep everyone happy but it will make for a good season. Bummer Eason isn't able to compete, any word on his situation?

Great to hear the Defense is looking solid.

Any word on the RB Boogey? Plough mentions him in the pressers but I haven't heard anything on the boards about how he looks.

Going to have recruits around this time of year, especially anyone within a two hour drive.

    How'd it look on Saturday?

I'm with you guys, this Defensive group is going to be good. And they will need to carry the team in early games while the new QB finds his groove, regardless of who it is. Play great D, run the football, throw play action, and be sharp on Special Teams. Championship formula at every level of football. Go Ags!

Davis has always fielded healthy roster numbers and had a great system for developing guys, redshirting freshmen, etc. Looking at the relative youth of the current roster, I would say that as much as is possible with current NCAA rules, that Coach Plough has held to that same philosophy and approach. Only problem today is that you are having to fight off the vultures from the bigger programs. Even with that, I much prefer supporting a program that does it this way than the transient, mercenary programs you see at the top levels of college football.

Spot-on with the Corners, what a luxury that is. We're not going to know on the QB deal until the end of training camp I'm guessing. Another good problem to have.

Will also see more help from the Tight Ends and Running Backs. It's concerning to me mostly for all the slow developing pull play action concepts that Plough loves to run.

saw what I saw. Is there still a late Portal window? I don't think so but could be wrong. We are going to be riding with what we have.

has his hands full as our embedded correspondent. Let me see if I can chip-in from 400 miles away:

Expect that QB battle to go down exactly as he described. Kollack was at a Big 10 program for a reason and is a confident kid from what I have seen online. Will leave it at that. Cleeland is his closest competition. I think Eason has a ton of potential but has to get over the injuries that seem to have hampered him for awhile now.

The Defense will ALWAYS make the Offense, especially the O-Line, look bad in Spring Ball. Always...

Collins struggled with snaps last year. Yes he is a returning starter with a lot of experience, but he had CP chasing balls in every direction last season if you recall. The absolute worst thing a Center can do physically is to make the QB move his eyes to chase a snap. That's one of the problems with being in shotgun or pistol almost exclusively. Snaps have to be automatic. Sh*t like that loses games.

I'm going to gloat: I called my shot a couple weeks back on Rosa. Kid just makes plays. They will try to recruit him off the field every season and he won't go away. Book it!

Porotesano is an interior body playing Tackle. Those 6'3" guys have to be Right Tackles if they are kicked out to the edge, they rarely translate at Left Tackle due to a lack of length. Beverly isn't ready for prime time based on the three minutes of high school film I saw online. Listed at 280. This LT situation was a concern I had five minutes after the Illinois State game. We'll see how it plays out, great OL coach will hopefully get it fixed.

The young DL; Mayo, Few, Fernandez, Huegel, that group can be special. Good veterans returning as well. I think this is an area of strength.

asked about the Tight Ends, and I think this is a potential area of concern. Winston is still dealing with his injury, he's older and who knows what he has left in the tank. Nobody proven behind that. I really liked Kutsishvili watching his film on signing day last year, but he's young. How's the big Cal transfer?

    Great job Sailorgabe, appreciate you!

Thanks for that QB update. Second week is probably a review of week one so you'll get a feel for where guys are by Saturday afternoon. Probably the first semi-scrimmage on Saturday as well. Big week of growth and competition!

Let’s get someone local out to practice tomorrow so we have something to talk about early in the week! Give us an update on the QBs, the LT, Tight End depth, how does Psyk’s replacement committee look, young LBs, etc

Listening to that part gave me goosebumps. Great culture

True, you don’t replace that sort of player, you work around it. Yes, he’s a UFA guy.

Few is the freshman who saw time last year. I think he’ll be the next great one if he sticks around long enough. Big, physical, explosive from what I saw towards the end of the year. Just looked uncertain at times but what freshman doesn’t.

I wonder who the backup is.

Fill me in on Carrillo, I don’t recall.

Loss of Psyk has me nervous. Few is a big time up-and-comer, but he can’t play every down. What’s behind him is what will have the greater impact

I knew it!!! I don’t hate horses or horse riders, but that sport is a budget suck. Good move, made sense. Keep it alive as a club, let the parents manage and fund it.
  • Needed Updates to the Football Uniforms / Field
I said this on another thread, but the white helmet on the SF gag unis looked great with the navy Davis and gold trim. Easy change up, stickers are cheap
  • UC Davis announces "Rooted in the Bay" uniforms inspired by the Golden Gate Bridge
With AI, every day is April Fool’s Day. Keep your head on a swivel!

However, the navy “Davis” script with gold trim looked GREAT on those white concept helmets!
  • Coach Plough teases "BIG NEWS" coming at the next Lunch with Coach
Spread the word. Someone needs to get this out to every alum they know and then have them share it with 10 more. Same thing with the parents and girlfriends. 350 shouldn’t be hard with a roster of 100 or so.

It felt to me like we weren’t very physical at the LB position in ‘25. Sievers had a couple nice hits that I recall, but Nate wasn’t nearly as physical as I expected or as physical as Meyer was in ‘24. Nate was an outstanding pass defender, but maybe I’m old school and want that Middle LB to be a monster. Possible it’s Sievers, or maybe it will be the freshman or the Juco kid. I would just like to see that guy be a wrecker. A presence. Our LBs were invisible vs Illinois State.

Good point on the Secondary. No way Rex will be ready for spring. The Idaho transfer and the Holy Cross kid will add to whatever is coming up at Safety. Brayden Rosa I think his name is played a bunch of Special Teams towards the end of the season and is a heckuva football player. Size will be the ?

Hang in there, brothers, we are almost to the start of Spring Football practice! I am officially retiring from Equestrian talk, but I will chime in on stadiums, beer gardens, and uniforms as needed. I am cautiously optimistic heading into Spring. The QB position is the biggest question mark to me, but I fully trust Plough and Shelton more than anybody in the country to get that right. My next question is the Offensive Line, especially at Tackle. Feeling good about the D, especially the July training camp version of it. Won't be overly concerned about what it looks like at the end of spring ball.
