Looking at Irvine's forum -- they have pretty active WBB game threads -- it looks like their big takeaway from the game is that UCI couldn't match up with Stobbart and that created defensive problems everywhere for the small ball lineup they run. They settled on the conclusion that UCI needs to recruit simply better players to compete with Gross's lineups.

I'm wondering if the conference needs to have a serious look at how much they're supporting/willing to support their WBB programs with things like budgets for assistants/recruiting/facilities. Not sure Davis is vastly outspending everyone else right now, but there have been some nice Pavilion upgrades, the athletics center is on the way, and we have an unrivaled staff in the conference. If the other BWC teams are just funding WBB to the minimum for Title IX balancing purposes (no real evidence that this is the case, but the results indicate it might be) then they will have a very tough time catching up to UCD's momentum.

Great writeup. It's hard to actually keep track of all the different years now, especially considering we've had complete roster turnover since the first Splash Sisters championship.

One thought and possible correction though: since there's a blanket extra year of eligibility, I wonder if that means we will still consider Stobbart and Konrad as juniors (and Turner as a sophomore) in Fall -- something I'm sure the rest of the conference is thrilled about. Not sure how many people will actually take the extra year of eligibility when they've met graduation requirements down the line though.

Up by one after the first quarter. UCI is good on defense and stifled the Aggie offense these past few minutes

Won the ToP battle and had both more passing yards and more rushing yards. I guess "turnovers are the difference" might be the takeway but even that isn't really much of an explanation because I think they only got 3 points of TOs and one of them was essentially a punt equivalent

Did Rodrigues even attempt 300 yards "worth" of passes before the final desperation drive? Didn't seem like it, but that might be selective memory.

Seems like despite being a spread offense on paper, the coaches really want to run a more conservative ground game, but at tempo with trick plays thrown in. It can devastate ok/so-so defenses but Weber was just too good for that.

Aggie defense has taken a step forward this year but not as far of a step as we initially thought. Can't help but think that some previous UCD teams would have been smoked by this offense.

Playcalling seems about the same to me, maybe a little better, but with more healthy talent on the roster than last year. Doesn't make it anything to write home about, just less of a liability but still something that showed today.

Clock and timeout errors are inexusable when you're playing from behind against a better team, and not even in a particularly hostile environment. It sounds unreasonable but I literally expect perfection in this kind of area from UCD squads. We're not going to outrun and out-muscle the top teams in the FCS, but we can decide that we're going to execute better than them.

This weird season and the program's gradual rise has disguised the fact that this is maybe our second or third-biggest FCS game ever in terms of quality of opponent and what's on the line. But I think we're up for it. Go Ags!
