  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
Sac is leaving the Big Sky, is leaving the FCS, is leaving the Causeway Classic.

The notion that Davis is somehow responsible for the possibility of the end of the yearly football game is preposterous and not grounded in reality, yet, its all over their board.

    Sac has created two issues:
    1. Does it make sense for Davis to play a rivalry game on the road every year? No
    2. Does it make sense for Davis to play the same FBS team every year? No

I think the Aggie offensive line is one of the better ones in our D1 history. The defensive line has a lot of turnover from last season. Transfers and non-starters form last year taking over.

I'd say a 3 man front allows for more flexibility and speed on defense.
3 linemen, 2 LB and 5 Defensive backs + a "rover" like Goligoski for instance who can drop into coverage as a LB or move up and rush on any given play.

Ex-Aggies, or pro ballers / coaches feel free to educate!

    I'd guess its editing (?)

All those athletics upgrades were designed around the football stadium, as part of a plan to enclose it when the stadium was renovated (and upgrade the football program/facilities). And that's what it looks like architecturally as well.

Not a good look to just abandon the plan at this point. It makes everything appear to be poorly thought out, which appears to be true.

SJSU stadium is about a 25 minute walk for students. Its on the other side of the freeway about 8 blocks away. Not on campus.

What about all the $ they've spent on the Broad Fieldhouse and whatever the heck they built on the north side? Wasn't this stuff all or mostly for football? Money down the drain?

Cal Expo idea feels pretty desperate. Moving the stadium off campus sounds like a terrible idea. Its going to make the student atmosphere even worse. Ask everyone who plays (or played) off-campus....San Diego State, San Jose State, even UCLA. Its really hard to get students to travel to a home game. And yes, even a 5 mile trip is far when you are living on campus. Anything more than a walk and students don't want to go.

Why doesn't Wood chill for a minute.....so frantic.

I thought maybe either Stanley/Fowler would start because they both played pretty significantly last year. I can see Batson starting for sure....all three of them definitely playing a lot

^ posted at pretty much the same time as Riveraggie...great minds think alike.....

This was waaaaay harder than I thought it would be- Riveraggie, I now understand your uncertainty about the defense. A lot of unknowns.

    DL Carrillo/Carrade (?)
    DL Psyk
    DL D. Porter

    LB P Connors
    LB Rutchena
    LB/End (?) Goligoski

    CB Josiah Allen
    CB Richardson
    CB Stanley/Fowler (?)

    S Rex
    S Riddick

Certainly was fast enough before he got hurt to start a bunch of games, make a lot of tackles and multiple interceptions in the ACC. Hopefully he's fully recovered by this point.

Sounds like Plough has to get all these guys in the starting line-up somehow. Seems like there is lots of talents there. Batson is a giant at S with playing experience at Boston College. As well as Josiah Allen @ corner from UTEP. Great problem to have.

I'd like to see you take a stab at a mock defensive starting lineup!

    So anyway......the Mercer game.....

I have a way-too-soon prediction. I feel like we surprise some folks and win by 13-17 points.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread

You know how this works with the grass/standing room.....but I'll bite on the light trolling.....
Utah Tech game last year drew 14,832. Montana State 14,000.
The amount of people let in the grass area and standing room is based on how the fire marshal feels about life that day.

    .
While its entirely possible Sac starts selling out Hornet Stadium (maybe halfway through the year?) I'd be careful with your attendance prediction.....during the dominant 3 straight conference championships (30-8 record) Sac averaged less than 13,800 This was dominant, fun, high scoring football, and it didn't consistently draw large crowds. (I threw out the 2021 covid year which looked like about 6k).

I'm wondering what possibly going 30-8 over the next 3 seasons looks like in the same stadium with just bigger dudes on the roster. If every game draws like Montana and Davis, you could be in business.

Davis can draw 15,500+ depending on what mood the fire marshal is in. I'm sure Sac fans would help achieve this if they would fill their section (partially trolling)...

Sac averages around 13,500 a game.
2018: 3,709 (I threw this out, your welcome)
    2019: 11,918 (6 games)
    2020: covid
    2021: pretty much covid
    2022: 14,338 (7 games)
    2023: 13,348 (5 games)
    2024: 14,046 (5 games)
  • @ Mercer to Open 2025
This is an issue I've never known anything about- travel roster size.
This sounds like a pretty big disadvantage for one team if they have less backups than their opposition.
  • Looking forward to 2025
I could see them at preseason #10.
  • @ Mercer to Open 2025
Anyone up for an East Bay watch party for the game?

Walnut Creek is a pretty central location (lots of Davis peeps in Contra Costa County). I'm thinking Stadium Pub. Ran into some Montana State alums there last year.

Any interest? Definitely willing to change the location to a different city!
