It's hard to believe that Dr. Wood would talk that much smack about Montana coming to Sac next week:
"We're looking forward to playing the Montana Pandas, oh, I'm sorry, Grizzlies I mean...but. let's be real, they haven't played nobody (sic) this season...I feel sorry for their fans to have to come here and play before the biggest crowd we've ever had and experience a loss like that on the road..."
Talk about bulletin board material! I will say this though, he has not and will not temper the hyperbole come win or lose. Like he has said over and over again, "We're FBS or Bust" and, even if he ends up with egg on his face, he's not going to change his tune and it is most certainly creating a buzz among Hornet fans...
Montana beat a top 10 UND. Not only does Sac have 0 ranked wins, they also lost to Cal Poly which Montana beat 28-9.
I guess I just don’t understand the PR strategy here. I much prefer Coach Plough’s approach of giving every opponent a lot of credit and respect. If you lose to a team you’ve just said is trash, what does that make you? I know we need to cheer for a Montana loss next week to help us get into the top 5 but you kind of just want to see Sac lose for karma reasons. Best outcome might be a 3-0 Sac win or something.
The near universal pattern for coach talks is exaggerated praise to opponents pregame, then post game to talk as though the outcome of the game hinged entirely on how his team played and the other team had little to do with it.
A Montana loss is better for us I guess but, man, the way they are going about doing things over at Sac and the constant hyperbole from Dr Wood really puts me off so I'm a Montana fan for this game.
Nothing wrong with bringing some entertainment to the big sky! The statement is really fun in my opinion, creates some narrative for this season and gives people someone to hate. Rooting for Sac State to put us in the top 5
Not a big Montana fan (although I do have a tremendous amount of respect for their program) but I do not know of any other program that at the administrative level as foolish as Sac state. They are a great case study on how not to behave.
Pulling 100% for Montana to not only win, but to run up the score on behalf of all of the other JV football teams.
Wood doing his job in this instance, trying to create a football buzz with a fan base that largely showed up in second half for a postgame concert.
I want Sac to keep winning and be 8-3 and ranked in the top-10 when we play them. I want a HUGE game. I want the Ags to beat 'em and maybe even keep them out of the payoffs.
Montana State has the Ag Extension program and Engineering. I think the default is to ba a Griz fan in Montana unless you have gone to school at Montana State. A lot of farmers don’t necessarily have University degrees, but rather passed down farm knowledge.
“ Thought that MSU was the science and ag school. Why is that?”
I really don’t know. My friends that I’m staying with are the ones who said the Griz rule here in a very rural farming area.
Same. Missoula for a quarterfinal or semifinal game sounds brutal and as of right now that’s a likely scenario for us unless they lose a game.
We don’t play Montana this year which means we need to rely on others to beat them. Looking at the rest of their schedule, the best shot of that happening is either @Sac or MSU in Missoula for the Brawl. I love to hate on Sac as much as the next Aggie, but I will always choose the better outcome for UCD even if it means a Sac win.
That said, if the Griz run the Hornets off their home field in front of a 20k crowd and national audience that will be enjoyable as well.
I think Montana has a great chance of beating them.
Sac’s pure athleticism is saving them- on offense in space especially. They appear so sloppy all over the field. Gibson heaving picks really helped them on defense.
I didn’t see the very end of the game unfortunately, but it sounds like that very well could have been another loss for Sac (?)
Crazy seeing an FBS transfer QB throw a 7 yard pass 3 yards behind his receiver.
Montana had a dude like that a couple years ago....still won a bunch of games and went to the '23 Natty. Clifton McDowell- limited as a passer, but way better than Cardell Williams....ended up transferring to McNeese.
I remember seeing him make some terrible throws against Davis. Still won the '23 game though.
